I was one of the earliest to report on the alt-f4 player in the bug forum. I mentioned that if this is not fixed soon, I will join the bandwagon. And I have been alt-f4-ing for a while since my earlier bug report.

Today, I finally met a match who countered my attempt at alt-f4. How did he do it? He do it via super duper high dps. My average timing to hit the alt-f4 button is about a quarter of a second (250 ms). This player bring me from full hp to downed state to planting flag on me in less than 250 ms. My finger was on the alt button key and another finger was en-route to F4 button (about 5mm from hitting the F4 button) when the flag was finally planted. Nicely done indeed. And in this rare case, I gladly pay the repair bill. This guy has gone to great extent to achieve what many people would think unthinkable.

So, to all those who complained non-stop about player who alt-F4, learn from this guy. Find a counter to player who alt-F4 rather than complaining non-stop. Join the high dps bandwagon instead of griefing. Do something positive.

So now what? Do we alt-F4 player need to complain about player who can kill full hp player in full exotic gear in less than 250 ms (I have never seen a faster flag planting animation ever that fast that I thought it is a new patch update feature. But there is no new patch recently right)?

Not for me. I say bring it on. Come and applies your super dps on me. Do it as often as your like. I am not complaining. Let’s see who can hit the button faster next time.

I should keep a paper tab of how many minutes of others peoples’ life i waste by them rage-quit-alt-f4ing and restarting lolz. Getting beat down by me hurts them so bad they’d prefer restarting? xD They’re just pixels guy, learn to fight with em!

It’s an honor for me to make a noob player to use alt+f4 trick.Shows me how hard i beat them and the fact that they have to re-open the game and re-queue etc. making me LOL so hard.

Hehe, sometimes you catch those Alt F4 dudes on their wrong foot.

Yesterday I managed to down a thief who jumped me (he didn’t seem to have much skill), tried to stomp him, he does this little downed state teleport trick, I try to stomp him again but of course … Alt-F4, he’s gone.

A minute later he found me in the same place (I was killing ogres on the eternal map) and jumped me again. Once again, I managed to down him easily (he was really bad). This time I use Decoy (my char is a mesmer) and finish him from stealth. Voila, he died right away, didn’t see the stomp coming, too late for Alt-F4.

I think he was just hoping I wouldn’t find him after he uses the downed disguise skill, that’s why he waited with Alt-F4. Too bad my stomp came too early. Other Alt-F4ers exit the game instantly when they are downed, but not thieves.

tldr;
Alf-F4 thief got owned by stealth stomping. Priceless.

Rage quit is a different logic than this.Rage quit happens after you die.Not in middle or at the end of your fight before you die.

Still it’s a fact that if you do that either call it rage quit or alt+f4 exploit , it makes you a bad player regardless of the game you are playing.

Sorry but i won’t call this like a normal thing because loads of former SWTOR dudes were doing it.

Bad players are just what some games need to spice it up abit. I suspect that GW2 need some spicing up. I am plain bored to see player goes “hey you are not supposed to do that! That is not allowed. That is not sportmanship.”.

WTH. As long as it is not exploit that goes against the game EULA, whack those ‘law abiding’ player until they fall out of line. That should wake them out that if they are not ready to handle pvp … go back to pve and fight computer code.

Whatever you saw on SWTOR, alt+f4ing is only a DUMB thing. “HAH I FOUND A LOOPHOLE IN THE EULA”. Fancy. Maybe you could take those “bad player” fundamentals back to a game for tweens.

Haha, yeah, I just laugh whenever anyone alt-f4s – it’s so pathetic imagining them sitting there chuckling to themselves how amazing they are that they avoided getting killed by closing the game!

Of course if they were truly good players they wouldn’t be downed in the first place. I only die a couple of times an hour in WvW at most, and when it happens you just click to respawn and get on with it. The idea that I’d close my client just to deny someone a kill is so tragic.

lol idc how good you are but when you alt f4 like a lil baby you deserve to die over and over until you learn to man up and pay up the repair bill. You started the fight finish that kitten. I saw some stupid kitten the other day who was in his zerg and ppl picked him off and he alt f4ed thats just asking to be called a panzy. Hopefuly they do the same thing some games out there got. They alt f4 make thier character stay for 10 seconds and when they come back they can enjoy what their kitten kitten tried to avoid.

On the contrary, alt+f4ing is a troll technique. People who do this are not frustrated by getting owned, they simply don’t care and their goal is two-fold:

1. Avoid repair costs which average about 1.5s at lvl 80, so for bad players who die constantly, this can add up to quite a bit over time.
2. Deny you the kill. This deprives you of drops (of which precursers are possible) badges, experience, and player kills that count toward your WvW titles.

Rather than saying “kitten this game!” alt+f4 players are saying “kitten you noob! have fun not getting any drops!”. Another difference, is that rather than playing another game or engaging in a different activity, these players simply log back in 15 seconds later to continue to try kill you.

This better be a joke, alt+f4 is not an in game function, it is cheating the system and they are looking into fixing it.

My position is also about not yielding to unfair play. While waiting for Anet to fix this, or perhap not ever fixed at all, I am not going to dwell in negative emotion washing my face in tears when player alt-f4 on me and then come to the forum and complain.

Alt-f4 player is most welcome to alt-f4 on me because I will alt-f4 doubly hard on the enemies too in return. I find it so DUMB for a player to lay there in downed state, knowing that he can escape death but choose to die to the enemy who will probably alt-F4 on him when the role reverse. This is DUMB. DUMB. DUMB. DUMB.

Like I said, if a player want to just play within ‘normal expectation’, that other players should behave according to what they THINK they should behave, and cry when they don’t, then they are not ready for pvp. Pve is a better fit for them. Computer code are very ‘obedient’.

yeh after they run down from their waypoint only to do it again lololol its funny this one kitten tried to kill me when i was heading to his servers camp. He came at me got downed alt f4ed came again same thing and again. I was laughing more than being angry at a pathetic person.

most alt f4 ppl say ‘’if the fight isnt fair i will alt f4’’ according to that every fight isnt fair cus they end up being downed lmao. Any alt f4 wont achieve anything in this game. Take the repair bill have some dignity for your self and run back to kill.

Haha, it’s not a ‘troll tactic’. I literally don’t care if someone alt-f4s on me: I get plenty of badges and drops, and that player is completely wasting their time restarting GW2. Time in real life > 1s repair bill, easily.

The fact that they think they’re causing anything other than pity from me is laughable.

And the idea that I should do it to them because they might do it to me is equally pathetic. Play the game, enjoy it, if someone is so sad they want to quit the game to avoid a 1s repair bill then that’s up to them.

You didn’t catch my sarcasm. This 250 ms kill is obviously nothing short of an exploit. This is not the first time I encountered this in recent days. I have mentioned about similar encounter in one of my earlier post.

This guy has bring the pvp competition to another level with this ‘capability’. One that countered the alt-f4 ‘capability’. I am now pondering on how to counter this ‘capability’ without having to use similar exploit (if I happened to chance upon it) which is against the game EULA for an eye-for-eye payback. I will not go across the red line of infringing on the game EULE. And I am definitely not going to bend over and present my kitten for enemy to plant flag into, in name of fair play and all the bull-kitten. Let those ‘law abiding’ player walk around with a tonne of flags stuck behind their kitten while chanting all hail to fair play. I will not be one of them.

So bad indeed. Next time when you are running towards the enemy, shout “Hey you are not supposed to alt-F4. Stay still and let me plant flag on you. I SAID STAY STILL. You hear that?”

With a good chance, you may meet one of those ‘law abiding’ player here who will do EXACTLY what you tell them to do. This will be epic. Record it down on vid if you can and post on youtube how pvp should be.

In Guild Wars, when you left the game multiple times in some PvP (Jade Query for exemple, ..), you got a hex called Dishonorable.

Here is the description of this hex :

Hex Spell. You are considered Dishonorable because teammates repeatedly reported you for leeching, or because you repeatedly abandoned your team in Random Arenas, Alliance Battles, or Competitive Missions. You may not participate in PvP until this effect expires.

A solution for the alt+f4 would be to have this kind of system.

Sure you can leave if they killed you, but you shouldn’t be abe to leave while downed/fighting without being punished. If you don’t alt+f4, you’re punished by the repair bill and the death itself. If you alt+f4, currently you’re not punished. You should be.

Until the moment that actual Alt F4 players start to get the same generic behavior from normal players. Then they start to squeak.

I never thought about using ALT-F4 until I saw in forum how much nerd rage it causes. Then I was like well.. why not?

It is a game function, after all. Saves on repair. And the time it takes to scroll across the map to find my waypoint is about the same amount of time it takes to log back in.

Plus it denies pixel jockies their big thrill of the day.

I don’t mind that much people alt+f4 out of the battle, just feels like a double victory to me. What’s the most funny part is the majority that i have encountered using this are the permastealth thiefs.

I find it hard to believe anyone who alt+F4 would in any way be proud of that action, if you were in a real war this would be considered dessertion. I all my W3 hours i have never alt+F4 and have seen about 3 people do it.

Yeah nothing till i kill the next scrub. Whilst you may get pleasure from denying one drop, i get infinite more pleasure knowing you have to restart your client, log in, get to w3, possibly que, then have to find your group again. A good 10 minutes wasted as opposed to shelling out a silver for repairs (which i imagine you may not have, alt+F4 isn’t good for accumulating moneys) then running back to the fun. Keep doing it, keeps the people who cant fight out of w3.

Its players using the game mechanics to suit their own end goal (all be it a very un sporting one)

Bad players alt f4. They have alot of excuses we’re supposed to buy into and accept but the truth is they lose alot and it makes them so angry that literally the only way they can sieze a little power in their powerless world is to deprive you of a reward. Pretty pathetic really.

More importantly though, if I remove them not only from combat in front of me, but from the game and back to a q or spawn point then I’m happy. Have fun relogging.

My guess is that it isn’t really about the loot bags maybe for some and even if anet decided to code in a loot bag drop from alt=f4,It would still bother a lot of players who are very competitive about winning,It’s being denied that killing blow.

When someone disappears as your up in the air just about to do the grand finale death blow,it just looks silly because your character just slammed a flag into the ground.

You can remap Character Select to an easy access key to quickly log out and not pay repairs. Can beat out any DPS easily.

Um… This is basically the complete opposite of how to succeed in a free market capitalist system. The manners part is fairly true, but the other two only hold you back from achieving your full potential in the financial world. One of the biggest disservice to our youth is that people still fill their head at a young age with the nonsense you’re spouting instead of preparing them from the onset to the reality of the world.

I can think of one situation were alt-f4 could be an exploit. Say you are fighting 2v2 (or possibly more) and one of your allies gets downed while an enemy is down. You go to finish off that enemy who then alt-f4s to avoid death. Meanwhile your ally who should have rallied from the kill ends up dying to another enemy because of the alt-f4 out. Wouldnt that be considered an abuse of game mechanics?

If the logic is to logout before you are defeated, but that is no longer working, then the hard counter to this is to not log in in the first place. They can’t stop the Alt-F4il maneuver if you aren’t there. The benefits of this are that you will be perma-stealthed and you will never be defeated. Your silver income may suffer, however, so this should be attempted only by those who have enough money for what they need, like armour repairs.

Has no one mentioned the culling/lag issue? He was probably owned by 5 people and never even saw it coming until it was over.

Also, the Alt+F4 issue seems to be getting worse. I’m finding it done more and more. And, I’m not even maxed out or a glass cannon build. If I’m planting a stake in you, I earned it!
