Fireworks
Smough The Cruel [WvW] – Warrior
You can use fireworks in WvW. Must be a boring server you are on, because in good weeks we burn through 1000+ fireworks a day.
Our guildleader made a circle on the outer wall of SM with fireworks. Great fun

I mean the firework from Dragon Bash, when you doubleclick it, nothing happens

Lots of potential opportunities for griefing with fireworks unfortunately. Makes sense to not have them in there.
Yeah.
For the first couple of days I think it was possible. People were setting them off (or maybe they were leftovers from the box o’ fun?)
Anyway, it soon got pretty annoying.
Well I remember a commander on our server use a stack of fireworks to better get the attention of the zerg to follow him. It was kind of annoying though :p

This is the ultimate reason for it. If we could do it in a way that wouldn’t adversely impact the gameplay of others, we would, but it’s not possible at the current time. Hopefully we can find a way to do it in the future, but for now you can’t use them in WvW for that very reason.
How can the fireworks be used for griefing? Are they different from the fireworks we have already? I’ve been deleting them so far so haven’t really noticed what can be abused with them.
Cat tonic is still possible to use. I don’t think fireworks can be used for griefing… other than do distract people or notice the enemy even if you are trying to hide with your zerg(and you already can do this other ways).
Also why does /rank emote not work in WvW? Don’t tell me you can also use it to grief? Why is that stuff there in the first place? I mean if you can use it to grief you also could just use it in PvE… remove it completely then.
I don’t get what could be abused either. If used before combat, it’s kind of your own fault for doing that. It’s fun to be used when a castle just got captured and you’ve done the sweep though… At least those are my thoughts.

Griefing is doing something to annoy and inconvenience people. Often your own side.
It’s not something we see a lot of in this game fortunately.
The fireworks throw up so much visual noise it becomes difficult to see anything else and people were using them to essentially blind everyone. That’s why they were removed.
Thank you Anet. That was very sensible.
P.S. Since particle effects are client based, you could make the firework visible only on the client that sets it off – problem solved!

We’ve had a lot of fun with fireworks in the past, same with items like ruminant tonics. They create a much more pleasant atmosphere with your enemies, especially since fireworks can be dropped for your enemy to use. We’ve been chased by a bit zerg before and our leader dropped a ton of fireworks causing the enemy zerg to pick them up and instead of rolling over us we had some fun shooting fireworks ‘at’ each other.
We also tend to spontaneously run around with them during the end of the night and sneak into an enemy keep as the other server breaches the wall to provide them with some fancy light shows as they capture it. We’ll be promptly chased out again, but we see how long we can survive shooting fireworks as we run.
My computer is utter crap and I’ve never had any issues with fireworks causing any sorts of graphical lag when compared to an organized guild splashing a combo field or simply stacking wells on one spot with a large number of necros.
The newly introduced fireworks don’t seem to be as much fun though, so I don’t really care for them not being usable, but I was expecting some sort of bug or exploit instead of a ‘they might cause graphics lag’. Ah well, let’s hope they leave the proper fireworks alone
edit: Just read this again:

I barely see the fireworks besides a tiny little thing moving upwards, I must be missing something

Too bad. I have over 100 of these and was waiting for Anet to say they were bugged in WvW but would soon be usable. (I definitely remember using fireworks from boxes o’ fun in WvW). WvW would be a great place to use these since we have so much to celebrate (taking SM, towers, keeps, camps…).
Now I’m just gonna delete the whole stack.

That stuff should at least be account bound… so I could move it all to 1 char… this way I really have to delete it or waste it for nothing at Lion’s Arch to get the inventory slots empty cause I don’t need this to take up 1 slot at every char I’m playing.

I don’t quite get it… They are the exact same fireworks as the original ones. Why allow one and not the other? The only reason I can imagine is that the dragon bash ones are “easier” to obtain.
And to be honest, anything can be used to grief. Might as well ban siege weapons, or transformation tonics. Or what about the most obvious, the emotes? I’m pretty sure people would grief with emotes a lot more than with fireworks.

We did some internal testing with these and you can definitely detect lowered framerates the more of these you see in an area. If you follow the pretty obvious logical train there, people will use them to adversely affect the experience of other players, intentionally. I’d love to allow all this stuff to work in WvW, but sometimes we have to take a heavy hand to stop people from being jerks to each other.

As much as I personally don’t like the decision… thanks. It makes sense.

Well Zergs also cause noticeably lowered framerates and unbalanced matches adversely affect the experience of other players so can we get those fixed too?
(Suggestions: Map Caps at 60/Server along with Free Transfers for a week, and a complete overhaul of the Scoring System so it encourages the weaker two Servers to fight the strongest Server together, especially in lopsided matches )
Why do the Dragon Bash fireworks function differently to the originals?
The originals are more fun to fire off, droppable for others, and not even soulbound.
Simpler solution could be to make all Fireworks the same as that.
I sure hope they did disable all the fireworks – including the new one(which gives a MF buff at the end) you can buy at the gem store at the moment). Would make no sense to treat them different.
