First step - get rid of automatic upgrades
I disagree. They just need slowing down pretty significantly.
As it stands, you can t1 a keep in a few minutes when Dolly’s are running in, t2 not much after that.
Leave the Dolly’s at 5 minutes and triple the base timers. That would make the upgrade system matter more, I think.
Yeah auto upgrades need to go (and WP’s need to move back to T3). There are other problems that need to be addressed but that is the crap that is really killing roaming.

Yes, adding a single button that one person has to click (while keeping everything else the same) suddenly gives things way more value….
That extra 3 seconds that person has to spend will sure fix everything!

I think the point is that if people are sleeping, the map shouldn’t upgrade to t3. Having someone minimally click a button will help in that regard.
And make that you need to go inside the structure to start the upgrade !
To easy to just start the upgrade from the map, like the guild claiming and the guild upgrade…
With manual upgrades, empty maps encouraged k-training because they were completely paper. With automatic upgrades, empty maps fortify quickly and discourage attack.
If we could fix the empty map problem, then we’d fix both problems.

Auto upgrades discourage small group play and defense, which promotes k-trains by default.

Because you know, theres was never an issue with nightcapping or anything where the maps belongs to 1 server and are already fully upgraded by the time you wake up even with manual upgrades. At least auto upgrades give the little guy a chance to defend somewhat.

auto upgrade give nothing to do to the off peak team when all is quiet… Then no one log in…
T3 are too easy to get, and to boring to take with small group.
Today I open palace wall… Outer was open but I had to leave…
I tell on my map that the wall was open….
3H later I log on again…. The wall that I had open was always open…… No one close it, no one try to open inner…. And all 3 server are FULL according anet !!
The map are empty at off peak because all is automatic and no one want to KT T3 !
Well, that’s not even a thing I thought of.
If the map is too hard to k-train, then it gets emptier. But before you go “oh k-trainers don’t belong here”, think about it like an ecosystem where if there’s no k-trains to prey on, then the predators will either starve or go somewhere else (EOTM).
It’s also dubious how much these things slow down large zergs. They do, but I think they hurt small groups that usually have to reclaim the borderland even more so. A large group can just toss some extra rams eotm style and tell a few people to resupply with ease. 4 regular rams is less supply efficient, but with 15+ and only 2-3 resupplying and it’ll still be faster than a group of say 5, trying to get a superior ram and maybe running around to get another superior ram up. If 2-4 people run off the resupply, it’s very easy for someone to get picked off by many things, or the ram. A group of 15+ would easily just run over and res the downed. And 15 isn’t really a zerg. If you have like 30+ people these are all non-issues.
This is also the time to cry about +5 supply, because in the past I could have activated that boon from a pocket guild. That is no more.
It’s just tedious. I swear when I try to get guildies to do stuff in WvW, half of them are falling asleep by doing this, and I don’t know what happened with the other half because I fell asleep too.
I do appreciate that unattended defense takes strain off defenders, but we may have wandered in the opposite extreme. Maybe the upgrades should take longer, and more reliant on dollys speeding it up. Scaling lords were probably a good idea though but they’re a bit tough in small numbers still.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

I have nothing against people who do KT… At least this bring player on the map !
For me KT is like PvD. Taking stuff without any one who defend.

It also works the opposite way and lets the stronger server T3 your home map overnight, making it a long chore for the smaller team to reclaim, while having to contend with the bigger server.
I guess I just want to see them have to work to T3 my home map.

Just as important as getting rid of auto upgrades is getting rid of perma contested WPs on the borderlands.
