I can safely say that the Anet has failed the WvW community. After playing again for the last couple weeks it’s clear WvW isn’t going anywhere.

The community has repeatedly asked for content and suggested fixes but all we get in return is horrible management.

Let’s look at a few things Anet has done recently for the WvW community:

Open transfers up a few weeks before the tournament so server ranks will be in disarray when the tournament starts.

Failing to fix the annoying “chat suppression” bug nearly 2 years post launch. Super annoying when you don’t have dedicated populations on voice-coms all the time.

Failing to implement secondary command tag colors and icons. How many time’s has it been suggested? How hard is it to implement a “Change my icon color” feature. It would take less than a weeks work.

Failing to listen to the community for unique items and armor as rewards for WvW. I’ve dedicated hundreds of hours to WvW, and I have nothing to show for it, but my friend who’s dedicated hours of PvE has all sorts of cool looking armor and items.

Failing to implement or experiment with rule-set changes during matches, like was suggested nearly a year ago. For example, camps would be worth extra points one week, ect, ect.

In the end WvW is fun for a while, but I’m burnt out and I just tried to return after 4 months away only to find it completely the same with no promising content expected.

All this community does is wine and wine. Have patience! The game has only been out about a year and a half and the devs are extremely busy getting foundational aspects in place. Pvp is finally becoming a decent system as new reward systems are being set in place, and balance continues to evolve towards a solid position. Pve is being set up with new world bosses and rewards which make it worthwhile (champion loot bags and the like.) WvW has gotten tournaments started as well as borderland buffs, an entire new map for someone bored in a que, and they are reworking the achievements in this next patch. On top of all of this, they consistently bring us new patches, gemstore items, skins, etc. etc. every two weeks.

There’s a perfect analogy to explain this community in relation to the devs. The devs are janitors going around sweeping up the floors in a gigantic university cafeteria. The forum is a group of students following around the janitor and saying, “You missed a spot.”

For those of you who support constructive criticism, don’t get me wrong. I do too! And I really appreciate the op for bringing all of these ideas to ours, and the devs attention. Without people pointing out what needs to be fixed, the devs would have an even harder time getting things in place. I understand this, and I have no bones to pick with that. All I’m saying is stop the complaining. Give feedback/constructive criticism, but stop the complaining for goodness sakes! (And yes, I realize technically I am complaining about people complaining. But I wouldn’t have to if they didn’t.)

If your server finishes below 5th you can’t get one.

You failed to understand that all that was made or not yet implemented for a reason. You bought a game nearly 2 years ago and they didn’t charge you a penny since then even yet making constant updates and trying to make wvw better for the community.

Also good luck finding a game better or even close to what gw2 is.

Well champion bags certainly help, and so does the new tournament, but I agree. I suppose in time they’ll get around to adding more stuff. In the meantime, I’d definitely suggesting popping in edge of the mist! You can make some serious loot and get a ton of badges.

I also think stacked servers messed up the wwv?. Many guilds were bought by t1 – t2 servers, like jq and bg so stacked. Everytime I join wvw, TC is always outnumbered 2-1 in zergs/blob fights unless they ally with one of the server like JQ. I’m going on vacation for 5 months, I’m gonna miss the fun, all I can say is I hope JQ wins first place, don’t want the stackgates to win “again”.

But what bugs me the most is “guild wars” doesn’t focus at all on GVGs. Focusing some time and effort on creating a whole new GVG arena with spectators that cant troll during the rounds, score boards, etc etc would make this game a lot more fun in my opinion. Honestly the only thing I like doing these days is GVGs, and same with many other people. Dedicated GVG leaderboards, cross server GVGs with servers that you are not facing in WvW would be AMAZING sort of like the LFG for PVE. There’s just so much that can be added to make this WvW/PvP experience epic, yet they focus on PVE 99.9% of the time which so many people don’t really give a kitten about.

I say the devs start asking players what they want, maybe pick out guild leaders from random servers and ask for input on the WvW aspect. Enough is enough with this PVE crap.

Bear in mind that the game is called, “Guild Wars 2” not, “WvW” or “GvG.” Don’t get me wrong. I agree with OP.

I’ll point out that WvW is the only reason that I play this game.

MightMicah has some valid points, but

WvW clearly does not receive the same degree of attention from Anet, EXCEPT for when they slow down the LS for a season or tournament.

I’m sure devon is putting a lot of love into it and fiercely lobbies for us, but the problem clearly stems from higher up in the heirarchy

I think the WvW-team suffers from bad project management.

We had now the 2nd Big-Bang project for WvW (Ruins and EotM), both consumed probably around 90% of the capacity of the WvW-team of the last year and both failed miserably. (EotM even distracted players from WvW in a period, where barely 6 out of 51 servers can muster enough people to play competitive matches in the coverage war.)

Do the quick-wins (small changes with big impact) first, don’t waste the resources in an attempt to develop something sensational, that no one wanted.

Eh, I don’t find WvW fun, but not for the reasons above.

WvW just feels pointless. It honestly feels like when you step in WvW, it doesn’t really matter what you do since the outcome has so much to do with how many people from your server decide to login to jump in a game and how many of those people that jump in WvW decide that they actually want to do things that make a difference in the actual outcome of the competition.

If they took WvW and toned it down to be an instanced match with a set team, then I would probably be all over it. However, it would have to be a lot more like GvG/HotM from GW1 than WvW as it is now to be anything really enjoyable to me.

Until then, WvW is something I jump in for some random open PvP or as just another achievement checklist to grind through for a skin I want.

They are listening to us a great deal, though things don’t always turn out as individually we would like it to…
For example, people asked
- a new map
- not more maps because of the ability of queued servers to fill more, thus have more disparity between server’s points
- take off map WP to stop blobs (just spawn WP available) (and people asked to get more WP in EoTM)
- something to do while waiting to get in WvW.

They made EOTM, a new map where a server’s population does not matters on server’s PPT, where people can wait, where WP are scarce, where no upgrades are needed, where a solo player can hide, where placement demands strategy and matters, and so on.
They made EoTM answering what players have been asking, and now people complain that it is cross server (while Anet intended for it to be server-specific, and changed it because of player’s demands), That WP are too far between, that it gives nothing to win or lose, and so on, complaining exactly about the answers fro devs to stated concerns…

People asked to have price for transfer scale on world level, they did so, and now people complain about them doing so.

People asked for something for roamers to do, where zergs would not be at advantage, the made the ruins, which, imho, answers that concern, and people complain that this is ghost town…

They did a lot of things for WvWers, in answer to feedback here.
But one person says something is black, 3 answer it’s white, then one makes a new post to say it’s white, and 3 answer saying it’s black…
Then someone comes in and state how it might be grey, but he’s shut down or ignored by everyone who try to shout higher for their idea to be heard…

I went from playing 5+ hours per day to logging in once every week or so due to the free transfers making WvW just unbalanced blobs. Why did the people involved in WvW not think such a drastic population shift did not need time for this glicko system to balance out? I think this a wonderful game, but some of the WvW changes make me wonder if it is truly a priority or not. I understand we had a population CDI but until they do something about it WvW is just a game of numbers.

There is no victory feeling because it takes 0 skill to win a fight in WvW. God I miss Dark Age of Camelot, you think with all the new technology coming out MMOs would be getting better not worse. Instead of adding new maps for WvW maybe fix the current maps we already have cough skill lag cough zerging cough

just a note on the “extra map aka EOTM”
as nice it might have been to have this for when the main maps are full this also that bleeds players when maps are not full.
ofc maybe on the top of the top server there might be super chances for it being full. but for the 99% not so much.

besides what seems to happen that in the first week everyone done their achievements and no one cares besides that people that are dedicated or actually enjoy this “competitive game” which to me i haven’t seen anything competitive about it beside. unbalanced classes, unbalanced servers, lag and most abused transfers for benefits.
as well as 2 servers ganging on one and many other ways to exploit and cheat to get advantage.

Yup.. big old slap in the face for people like me who spend 80-100% of their time in wvw each week, yet may not get rewarded because they didn’t flock to a winning server.

CrazyDuck shares a delusion common amongst so-called hardcore/zerg-busting guilds. In reality, the numbers are almost always equal and if the enemy really does have 3x or more your numbers, no amount of buildcraft circlejerking will win you that fight.
