For HoT can we get rid of Food and such
I take it you missed the part about cleansing? Swapping foods to fit the situation? That’s the l2p part.
Don’t want to spend the gold for 40%? There is 36% for less.
How is it an exploit when conds get shrugged off like they are nothing from aoe cleanses anyways? o.O
You make it sound like WvW has a cond meta when it’s a power meta and always has been.
Contrary to popular belief, WvW isn’t all about zerging though. There’s just as many people who only run with smaller groups or solo roam as there are people who only play WvW on raid night with their guilds. With the new borderlands in HoT, they are actively trying to incentivize people to not go around in a blob everywhere, and maintain smaller groups to handle secondary objectives. So while the profound effects of some of the food buffs may be minimized in very large scale combat, that’s not at all the case when you’re dealing with smaller groups or roamers.
Other than that, there’s just nonsensical stat choices among the foods. Again, compare fancy truffle burger to rare veggie pizza. If anything, the condition duration magnitudes should be exchanged. That would make much more logical sense. I’m not sure it’s even possible to construct an valid argument as to why fancy truffle burger and rare veggie pizza are currently balanced.
I’m not advocating food be removed, but they all the food items need a balance pass, particularly the outliers like the +/-% condition duration stuff.
Probably depends on what tier you’re in as far as the zerging. T1 = zergerrific.
If you want to balance WvW more, the first place you should start is with the numbers. Who even cares about food when numbers and coverage rules WvW regardless?
Roaming still occurs all over the place even in T1. If the new borderlands work the way they’re designed, blobs won’t be as prevalent either. As such, food can become a much more influential factor on routine combat, although we won’t really know for sure how the new BLs will play out yet.
As far as numbers and coverage goes, there’s only so much that can be done about that. If there’s simply more people that want to play WvW on one server than on another, there’s simply going to be more people around on that server’s side. It doesn’t mean that food is a completely irrelevant factor in WvW though.
Roaming in T1 does happen but it’s nearly pointless. Whatever a small group does is undone extremely quickly with “coverage”
I’ll believe that HoT is less zergish when I see it.
Yes there are many things anet could do to stop the zerging, but they choose not to. Why bother with something so minor as food before numbers/coverage when numbers/coverage are by far the biggest imbalances? It’s like taking away resources fighting a fatal disease that’s running rampant because some one caught the sniffles.
Because numbers/coverage is a far larger issue with a much less straightforward solution, whereas the food consumable imbalance largely involves some numerical adjustments.
One does not simply dump all their resources in one problem at a time, it’s extremely inefficient. For instance, no cure currently exists for HIV, but that doesn’t mean all medical research in all other areas is suspended and reallocated to deal with HIV. Similarly, when dealing with software, it’s often counterproductive to over allocate people to a particular problem. You only need enough to do it effectively.
So while a dedicated team can work on solving numbers/coverage issues, it doesn’t mean there can’t be other that work on adjusting the food items. The two are largely unrelated issues, so I don’t think it’s fair to claim one is more or less irrelevant in the wake of the other.
Besides, if the forums are to be believed, ANet has no intent to work on numbers/coverage issues, so if they’re not going to do that anyways they might as well spend the time to adjust the foods.
And no, roaming is not pointless in T1. In fact, I’d say it’s more pointless in the lower tier servers because you’re less likely to have people that care about actually defending and upgrading things.
Err, disable food, srsly?
How is someone spending money on fancy food different from someone spending money on omegas or guild catas?
For that matter, how is food a particularly unfair advantage in an environment where some people can get guard stacks and others haven’t picked up enough ranks to unlock the traits?

It would make such a minor difference to where it’s not even worth the time. Cond duration food is only viable in small scale/roaming, and then it’s only an issue if you don’t bring -cond duration food or cleanses. Not worth it.
On a smaller server you don’t have as many people just flipping things when the other servers don’t have a presence. Whatever difference you make is quickly undone by those types of forces in T1.

@OP:
Sorry that the additional strategy is too complex. For many of us, we like the idea of our own personalized food/armor choices. If you don’t, go to PvP.

Not much strategy involved really.
You pick the food that boost an area in your build.
End of story.
But I am curious. What strategy is there to pop +100power food and go and gank someone?
@OP
If this was a suggestion a year ago i may have gotten behind this.
As this game is now, you cant balance WvW anymore
Those with rank points > new players without
The power creep is real and the advantage is pretty visible.
best to spend money on what ever strong food you need , farm EoTM for rank and role with it.
Actually I found out in some leaked patch notes that as well as foods and oils/stones, there will be moisturisers, body-cleansers, war paint, colas and battle snacks.
I would like to see WvW game mode made more pvp oriented/structured.
I wouldn’t mind if they remove food in wvw.
They removed repair costs. (albeit everywhere)
They removed map completion.
I’d like to see PvE animals on the map removed too. You know the ones that get aggro on symbol of switness
I’d like to see upgrades cost badges or nothing so other people might actually start an upgrade.

Absolutely.
Food is ok for me. Nerf it or not.
But very annoying are the items you can buy from some heart-npcs and using in wvw. I don’t want to lose to somebody, because he can faster search items in his inventory.
Rams, arrow carts etc. are ok. But not a healing seed or such a stuff that you use while fighting.
Why do people want wvw to become more like pvp? If you want pvp, THEN GO PLAY PVP!. Don’t try to ruin wvw for those of us that hate pvp and like how wvw is.

You gotta up your APM game yo.

WvW and PvP. Food and utility should remain in WvW. It allows for further diversity and adds more options into builds to allow a player to create a build that works in their environment and play style. If there are issues with individual items work on those versus throwing the entire system out.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
You remember the mini golems that used to be allowed in WvW … those hills battles were just lol.
Can we make WvW more like SPvP and control all these silly buffs?
How about no? What is it with ppl trying to make wvw more like spvp?
My main annoyance with the food could be solved by simply buying the food once, and have an upkeep cost for it per 30/60 min. I just find it tedious and dull to have to reapply the food/util every 30 min, find that it has worn off in a fight, and remember to buy new stacks of it.
I’d much prefer it they where changed into specific food slots, where you rather buy the food and have it permanent, and can swap it out. I’m just tired of the "wear off" aspect.
Though +1 about the comments above regarding condi duration +/- food. bad design.

Well, there has to be some way to pay me for my time, for leveling chef, and making the stuff you buy. If your willing to pay chefs 10 times more for it to last 10 times longer, I guess that may work once Anet adjust the supply.

Those haven’t worked in WvW for a long time.
Next suggestion from the OP will be to remove all build choice like in spvp, remove ascended and legendary items and we can all play cele engi and sit on cap points…
Food = gold sink <—- Anet likes Gold sinks.

Food also make a craft relevant outside pve. we already have a pvp setting that doesn’t permit it. Let this one be…
