Yeah okay thanks for reading up until “guarantee…”. Feel better?
no, no more maps, my server have problems in filling 2 maps… yet alone another extra map. Maps are good like this. And no dungeons in the www maps, I dont want my borderland to fill with pve-ers sitting at the entrance spaming LFG withoud giving a crap I’m loosing next door all my keeps and camps
Edited: please support this post. is not unsensible or stupid what I propose here, its eazy and nobrainer for everyone to realise.
Yeah I forgot those med pop servers, Maybe replace 2 of the borderland maps with different maps running in borderlands is very repetitive….
How ascended gear creates a problem for you guys as well is beyond me. The sole purpose of that gear is for agony resistance which is a condition only available in upcoming dungeons
Unfortunately this is false.
First, ascended gear has inbuilt base statistics which are already higher than exotics + slotted gems, so they are already best in class without infusions.
Second, infusions have already surfaced which do not only have agony resistance but also give a bonus to another stat. And they are only blue level infusions.
It doesn’t really take a prophet to foresee what happens after you get masterwork, rare, exotic, and ascended-level infusions to be slotted into your ascended level armor and weapon slots.
The end result is that pve gear grinders will have a massive combat advantage.

What’s stopping you from getting the gear? PvE players will get it for PvE and WvW, WvW players will have to do the same. I get what you’re saying, but all I’m reading is laziness and no will to explore outside of WvW.

Ugh. Firstly Anet specifically marketed their game as NOT having a gear grind, secondly they continued said marketing by saying you will NOT be forced into doing things you do not want to do to stay competitive gear wise(within reason) Creating gear that supersedes the currently available gear, and then making it ONLY available by doing PvE dungeon grinding, violates both of these promises.
It’s not a matter of willingness to explore outside of WvW(which shouldn’t be necessary anyway) but a matter of dev’s implementing things they specifically said they will not do.
The problem is that WvW is a 24 hour a day fight, and belittling WvW players by calling them lazy does not even come close to the truth of the guys out there fighting for their server for hours on end. The longest raid grind in history cannot even come close to the amount of time necessary to win at WvW. To not give WvW players access to the same quality gear for the massive amounts of gold, blueprints, and time they have infused into the game is beyond understanding. To ask them to leave WvW to grind dungeons makes no sense whatsoever for anyone who understands WvW and how every minute and every player on a map counts.
I have karma and badges out the wazooo and no where to spend them. Would I like to get amazing loot for a 2 hour investment? ( Lost Shores one time only) HELL YES! Would I like to get amazing loot for a 400 hour investment? TAKE A WILD GUESS!

I find it extremely boring having to redo the same dungeon over and over and over, dozens of times, to fetch some trinket which I need to stay on equal footing with other players, and which will become useless a few months down the line anyway when the next tier surfaces, restarting the vicious cycle. It’s completely possible to actually end up having to spend more time “getting competitive” than the time you’re spending having fun once you’ve reached the max level.
GW2 was explicitly sold as a game which did away with this concept, and now they have introduced it back and associated to a massive grind to boot. It simply does not interest me, as if I wanted a gear grind, there are lots and lots of better options on the
market, starting from WoW whose developers have greatly refined this concept in the several years they have been doing it. If you like the pve grind good for you, but it shouldn’t really be difficult to understand why people who can’t be bothered are rather annoyed at this blatant u-turn which is diametrically opposite to everything arenanet kept saying up until release.
I would like to see more “guild” things in GW2. Perhaps guild-specific maps where you can declare a war and have small Guild vs. Guild war on a much smaller map?
I venture a guess that WvW is actually not in the core plan of GW2 at the start. That massive PvP that involves more than 2 parties as a game concept is popping up in other upcoming MMOs’ feature list sprung GW2 to take it up as an ‘add-on’ which they have no clear plan for it but would also not like to discount it totally.
But time is running out for GW2 as noted by others who mentioned PlanetSide 2 which promises similar WvW on a much more massive scale potentially involving thousands of players. Other games has an aggressive plan for their WvW. GW2 has to now step up their plan for WvW or risk remaining the laggard in this category.
I am a pvp gamer, especially in massively pvp type like in WvW. Whichever game do this part of the game well will hold my attention, bandwidth and resources. I hope it would be GW2 than other games.
@Assassinin
I too heavily into PvP, and think Anet does not realize how little future is there in competing with WoW in PvE.
Casual PvP is the only venue I see GW2 succeeding in. We will see. I personally don’t plan to buy any more gems until I see a substantial effort put into WvW.

Hold on let me get this straight.
“If you like the pve grind good for you, but it shouldn’t really be difficult to understand why people who can’t be bothered are rather annoyed at this blatant U-turn…”
Blatent U turn? The ascended gear isn’t even fully out yet. The gear itself has a few extra stat points. On top of that, it’s not even limited. Everyone playing this game has the same opportunities as everyone else. Many of us can not be bothered. PvE players have to earn it, as will WvW players. What’s the problem here?
You guys are misguided. WvW is a lot of fun but in no way shape or form is it ultra competitive like you guys are making it out to be. WvW in its current state is, and will remain to be a zerg fest. You want to talk about competition with equal gear, to go PvP mode.
As for the doomsday speakers. Really? Are you even reading what you’re writing? It’s like many of you just speak trash because you can’t be bothered to do your research or you’re lazy to obtain things.
It’s not even like ascended gear is PvE only or only obtainable through dungeons.

Moot point anyway assuming they do what they say.(regarding gear)
Regarding the actual items:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Endless_Quiver
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Endless_Quiver_%28Infused%29
I think it says everything which needs to be said about both the power of these items and the grind necessary to get them, and this is without even taking into account infusions (both those currently available and the new levels which will no doubt soon be released).
About the news item you linked:
http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/21/guild-wars-2-interview-monetization/#s:guildwars2-16
In particular:
O’Brien: Before even answering this question, I want to point out that in Guild Wars 2, being competitive isn’t all about having the best gear. It’s not like you’re going to go into world-versus-world and get smoked because someone else has a godly weapon that you can’t hope to acquire. We’ve always been against that kind of thing.
Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.
Given the 180 change in what was supposed to be a basic tenet of GW2 design, anything they say now has to automatically be assumed to be a barefaced lie to minimize PR damage.

I fail to understand the lack of interest in more zones. The WvW maps are very small, and all identical except for EB. People complain about WvW being a zerg fest, and yet adding more zones would essentially solve this problem. With more zones, there’s more space and more objectives to fight over. The population gets spread out more, and it becomes more challenging to have 1 or 2 giant zergs just steamroll over everything constantly.
I would like to address the money/gold side of things. People claim that they do not do WvW because the rewards are not decent enough. I level up a char strictly through WvW and at this point have about 25 goldish made. That seems plenty of me, I am never broke or out of money there. My question would be why are people farming money? For legendaries? Most of them are dumb or ugly, I cant seriously think that is the reason.
So people are supposed to farm Orr, so what they can get better gear and thus be better at farming Orr? I dont see the point, maybe its me, I tend to play games for fun. But yeah plenty of money to be made in WvW, I assure you much more then dumb events, now those are a time/money sink. Candy corn is worth how much now?
But yes the devs lack of improvement or acknowledgement of WvW is a major problem. But I doubt that most players know about this. If they minority plays WvW, only the extreme minority is on these forums.
Its obvious that u have never bought a single seige or upgraded a single camp.if u tell otherwise.then we know your making up the story. In which case i feel bad for the server you play on.
Wvw is the biggest goldsink in gw2 whether people choose yo acceptit or not.
I have spent 10 gold or so on siege/upgrades so far, nice try but have to try again. Ask my guild/server.
You can get 8 siege a day from jumping puzzles especially with a port it takes very little time. So on a slow week thats 56 siege. with a guild of 100, thats 560 siege. Now lets add getting 30 badges a day from jumping puzzles and another 30 from kills thats 60 badges or 10 rams is it? So no it doesnt all have to be a money sink. And drops have gotten better, got an exotic last night.
The biggest money/time sink are skins and ledg weps in the game really. Lets spend 100’s of hours dressing up our little digital dolls so we can parade around Lions Arch where no one notices.
No more maps. More ways to to spend Karma in WvW. I’m all about that. The only thing really missing beyond that is community in WvW. Too much anonymity makes everyone just a face in the crowd instead of your realm mate.
Anyways… ya… give me stuff to spend Karma on that’s uniquely WvW.
I would rather see maps reworked/more interesting then more maps. It wouldn’t take much to make the 3 identical (who thought up that) borderlands a bit more interesting.
And yes siege for Karma please, or even better upgrades. Or maybe a chip in mechanism for upgrades.
ANet has stated from the beginning that WvWvW would be considered a PvE environment where PvP CAN happen.
The competitive PvP was always meant to be sPvP and more important tPvP.
It’s the reason why ANet doesn’t balance WvWvW. It’s also the reason why ANet doesn’t care much about fixing WvWvW issues (culling/hacks/exploits/flaws). This game was meant to be a simple MMO with amazing competitive (maybe even eSports level) (s/t)PvP.
WvWvW will always be messed up.
Nope, with the new ascended system they will be forced to introduce a PVP stat, Resilience anyone? Even AION had it…. because even if they release ascended gear as is for badges or karma, they will never be able to balance it so the players who are NOT wow locust dungeon farmers will be on the same par as those dungeon farmers, in which case just like Agony resistance, they will have to release a stat for the PVP facit, only obtainable through wvwvw… further turning the game into WoW
God, I hope you’re wrong, but get the uncomfortable feeling that you’re right.
This is why I quit GW2 and am just playing Planetside 2 instead.
If only Darkfall was a good game, we would all have a true home. It’s… Everything the WvW player wants, just with extremely kitteny gameplay that can’t be forgiven.

1. Agree, dungeons r so frustrating … that disband-fail 99 times did happen to me too xD … i hate them -.-
2. Agree too, there is no top gear for wvw players like for dungeons players
800k karma here and i cant use it, there is nothin to buy
+1 for the post
gomen eng
finaly I found and answer
E5:With ascended gears only being available at FOTM – is it intended that players wishing to be at their best in WvW will have to first tune themselves with fractal rewards?
It is absolutely not intended that Ascended will make a discernible difference in WvW. However it is the certainly the perception. Again however we would have much preferred to have released Ascended Gear across the whole of the game than in one area.
Players in WvW will be able to acquire Ascended items within that area of the game soon.
the only answer I care, I only hope now prices for them are in karma+badges
btw, how soon? :P
In GW1 you couldn’t and didn’t care for gear rewards in PvP, you simply played because it was fun. You either got your guild to a high rank (bragging rights) or an individual high rank (HA/TA/RA), again bragging rights.
But still, given that you simply win or lose in WvW and still end up playing the same teams week after week, something has to happen there to keep us coming back.

I totally agree, and sooner rather then later.
to the OP, no you don’t represent the WvW community.
That said, you can’t add more maps and further dilute the playerbase. There are a lot of servers that struggle to cover 1 or 2 maps as it is right now, and adding more would destroy the pvp aspect of WvW.
If they are to change out maps then all 3 server BL would have to go, due to the landscape of the map. And I don’t see them doing that.
WvW is fine. It’s pretty good. Personally I hope they fix a couple of things and then I wouldn’t see anything wrong with it.
One of those things I hope to see out of ANet is a raid grouping. So more than 5 people can get in a group and enjoy the fun.

WvW is not fine, if anything it is slowly dieing due to lack of attention. More maps aren’t needed what is needed is more interesting maps I mean come on one map repeated 3 times, how lazy is that? Throw that on top of playing the same servers again and again, large amount of bugs throw in with every patch (yay the repair merchant is now attacking my keep door), things that have been broken since launch (I can walk up walls and such), and more, it should give any player a concern on its future.
I have been hearing/seeing players who have spent more then 100 hours in WvW saying that they are going to check something else out for a bit. That is a bad sign. If you cant keep the hardcores how do you expect to keep the casuals?
I know Anet is famous for keeping its secrets and only revealing things when they are ‘ready’ but now would be a great time for some ‘this is coming up’ kind of talks.
It would be nice if Anet changed the scenery of WvW a bit, just like how Fractals mini dungeons have all different scenes/feel. Not more maps, just a winter portion of map, a make Eternal Battlegrounds a lava/fire map, etc. With increased rewards and upgraded interesting scenery, maybe people with participate in WvW more. Give us WvWers some love! <3
