DAOC had perma stealth that worked like this:

1) any damage would destealth you

2) you moved at half normal speed IF you specced max stealth, slower otherwise

3) you had to spend spec points into stealth and hamper your other abilities,
othwerwise other stealth classes had advantage seeing you before you could see them

4) you could not restealth for 10 seconds after been engaged in combat

5) ranger/scout/hunter could get “Detect hidden” active ability that would allow them to detect stealthed classes

6) classes with DoT damage would put it on you, if you could not purge it, you could not stealth for like minute

People whined to no end about stealth in DAOC. Moral of the story: don’t whine, it can always get worse

DAoC was more focused on PvP in RvR. ArenaNet does not support PvP in WvW – It seems they think doing PvE and PvGates should be the most funny activity you can do.

Actually destealthing for ranger or even engineer would be awesome. But you know … This would be Rock, Paper, Scissor – Which seems to be an absolutetely no go for ArenaNet since GuildWars 1.
Furthermore – No, I don’t QQ/flame – the thief-design seems to be intended to fight dirty/unfair.

Since stealth is only really a problem in WvW, and not so much in sPvP, why don’t they use the thing that’s unique to WvW to balance it.

Just introduce a food that grants you the perma ability:

25% Chance to inflict “Revealed” (5 seconds) on your target when you strike them.

They can play around with the %chance and the number of seconds, but that would pretty much solve the Thief QQ problem.

And don’t forget: Fast combat doesn’t require more skill at all. You just had predefined counters in DAoC – as the RPS-system requires.

There’s actually an NPC I saw when I was ~cough PvE’ing cough~ and it had a stealth buff, where it was permanent until they took damage, I mean there is an actual stealth in the game that’s removed if you take damage, it’s there already.

Hide: Remove yourself from site. Channeled 8 seconds. Channeling interrupted on damage or movement.

Stealth: Requires hide to be active. Allows you to move while hidden.

No other ways to get in stealth other than a skill on a one minute cooldown.

Of course if you do this, you’ll need to give Thieves ranger level health (+5k) and dramatically increase their damage because their burst ability has been removed entirely. At which point you’re probably better off just removing all the traits and abilities that increase initiative regen in any way and calling it a day.

Stealth isn’t the issue in this game. It’s initiative regen.

I’d rather see something like Perforate Artery…good out of stealth opener that pretty much finishes soft targets and put you on par vs tanky ones
