Cool.
Are any mechanics being implemented (or tested I guess) in this map to the end of spreading players out and rewarding organized positioning and coordinated skill use over stacking and spamming? And if any such mechanics work out, is it possible they’ll spread to the core maps?

Wow, you guys really must have busted your butts to get this thing polished this quickly. Can’t wait.
Going to be interesting!

Polished?
It is still early in testing, so I don’t really think we will see anything that polished ^^

The main question I have towards the new map would be, how its going to be able to hold the mass amounts of people going into it? Not just when the map first comes out, but during the reset nights of WvW, a lot of people will end up getting queue’d, and some of which they are commanders and most of their people didn’t get into the bl they were all aiming to get into. So there will be tons of people mostly on reset night waiting to get into their bl’s, which is where my question comes in, how is it going to be able to hold the mass amounts that are going into it, and leaving it to go into the bl’s?
I am not sure how they are gonna do anything in a map that would punish stacking in big fights cause the whole stacking tactic was born from the 5 target aoe limits not map mechanics.
It will have overflows, thus the amount of people joining it would be rather irrelevant, since it would just create more and more maps if it fills up.

fix the link xD the “–we’ll” doesn’t belong there ehehe
I don’t WvW much (and am on a lower ranked server) so I think at most I’ve had 20 min que times 1-2 a month. But I wonder how they plan to address your questions Fafnir. (I almost want to guess that server doesn’t matter for the map, and you’ll randomly get assigned a color, it’s the only way I can see over population not win over)
And not only that, but other than getting to play (instead of waiting for a que), what benefit do people get in the new map? I guess that means, how does this map (and any overflows created) help get points for your server? Or is it just a “playground” for something to do while waiting to get into one of the 4 maps.
I don’t understand how its supposed to work. I hope you can explain that in the stream.
I mean, its overflow but its not. Somewhere I read that you can directly enter it so you don’t have to be in a queue to get there. And it replicates itself when it fills up so there can’t be a queue for it.
But if that’s the case, what happens when people just go there and start fighting and don’t enter WvW proper? Are BL’s going to be even more deserted on lower ranked servers?

Well, that would depend on what the new map offers.
It doesn’t effect the WvW-score at least, so any serious WvW:er would most likely not bother much with it.

Why didnt you invite pvp guilds in the first wave?
not too interested in the new map to be honest…because there is a more important issue and question here…how is Anet going to solve the stacked server situation and the terribly unbalanced matchups. Can we please ditch the rng matchups (after season 1 concludes obviously). I’d much rather have the same somewhat competitive matchup each week then the rng matchmaking system that 9 times out of 10 creates some of the worst lop sided matchups i’ve ever seen (i.e. when Crystal Desert rode all the way to teir 2 a few months back. Every weeks matchup was a blow out, we got completely destroyed, yet we still gained pts? and the next week we went up a tier? How does that make any sort of sense?)
You can answer any of those questions, thanks!

I know destructive bridges were mentioned as a part of the new map, will the team that owns it be able to destroy it as an actual strategic move? I’ve alway thought of it as a good move to do in hills though we can’t

From my understanding it works like a PVE map. Either you join it directly or you get pushed into this map once you start queuing. And If the main map is full it generates an overflow. Its like a lobby.
And to the problem that people might spent more time in that map than in the actual WvW maps. Then it just means that the current WvW system needs some heavy changes. And to be honest i wouldn’t be suprised if you see far less people on the actual WvW maps.
To people with questions about overflow/queues … don’t think of this as the WvW overflow map … think of it as the overflow capable WvW map.
As I understand, it is a separate map you can join at any time, but it can spawn overflows so there’s no waiting (unlike with the other WvW maps).

Except (if its still the way the said in the beginning) you’ll still be getting wxp (thus ranks/chests), so theres that. Some WvWers don’t care about the score, they just want the pvp aspect (not me), so they’ll still go there, potentially.
Please give us a keyring…

That was why I added serious WvW:er
People that actually care about WvW will most likely not let their server fail just because there is a new map.

Will we be seeing a short preview of the new area in obsidian sanctum as well?

Sigh. You don’t get it. A lot of people zerg in large groups because they enjoy it. No one forces people to do it. If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it.
Also, if you think a zerg is just stacking and spamming, you play with the wrong commanders.
is it coming out on next Tuesday Nightmare Within too?
Can you get special loot from Edges of the Mists?
It looks too much like skyhammer to me. Gonna be a playground for engies knocking people off the cliff at every opportunity.

No.
It is still in testing phase (if that have even started yet) and will most likely not be release this year.

How will this help matches where there are overpopulated servers vs underpopulated servers? If the matchup is YB/BP/DR, will YB have 3 overflow maps and BP/DR still not able to fill the 4 main wvw maps, much less even ONE edge of the mists map? What good is overflow map #3 if there are no enemies?
How is this helping the #1 problem with wvw, population imbalance?
Why was so much effort put into this when commander tags are still broken, skill lag is a persistent problem, and the various other problems that have been around since game release that are killing the game and nothing is being done about?

^ +1, fix the current issues, don’t try to cover them up with new content.

I can’t wait for this! Being on tier 1 really sucks when you can’t get into WvW… and also, it effects the mentalities of the players. Commanders are harsh on people not staying on their tag and following their orders, because the slots are limited and they feel if you’re not following them, you’re wasting a player slot. It’s annoying as hell when you finally get in and all you hear is complaints towards the players from the commanders and their groupies, so maybe this can function as a “casual” WvW and ease that frustration on both the commander and player’s parts.
Anyway, here’s my questions:
How will the new zone interact with the queue’s of the existing zones? For example, will we be bumped higher on the queue to get into a BL if we’re actively playing in this zone vs. playing in a PvE zone… Second, will we be able to stay in the new zone without jumping into a BL or EB when the queue pops? And lastly (I believe this was already stated as being the case, but I just wanted to verify it)…. will we be able to earn achievements towards our WvW seasons while in the new zone???
Thanks guys!

Very interested in this, ohh I hope it will be good
Will this zone work as a staging area for WvW with crafting stations, vendors, mystic forge etc?
Will players on the same server be able to join different teams on this map to fight eachother?
What incentive will there be to hold objectives?
What will the nature of already present and soon-to-be included objectives be? Will they be the regular ol’ WvW experience of Dolyaks, keeps, now ruins, etc., or will there be new ones?
What are the measures to prevent a giant zone zergtrain?
Hello Rubi, I have a question.
The more balanced, spontaneous fighting sounds much more appealing to me than the ppt driven WvW. However, I am on a low populated server with a non-existant queue.
Will players be able to participate in the Edge of the Mists if there is no queue? Or will I need to transfer upwards to be able to play EotM?
Very fast, I cant wait to watch some of the guilds from BG kick some kitten
I wish you’d hurry up with this. Sitting in que for hours is so boringggggggg. Even worse when there’s nothing to indicate your que pops if you go afk or alt tab out

What is the size of the map? and is it only the 3 servers facing each other in WvW match up that will be playing against each other in this new map
(like can a tier 1 server find a tier 6 server in that wvw map and fight them?)

Has our friend, the mysterious kid who is training cats to fight ogres, found his way from the borderlands to the edge of the mists?
I haven’t followed all the details of discussion, so sorry if these have been covered.
It would be great if there was a place to test builds accurately with WvW rules in place. Ideally, with golems or dummies that could register critical hits.
Also, it would be really nice if there was a place to try out all siege weapons. I remember early on feeling very intimidated to try different weapons since I didn’t know the controls and didn’t want to try learn in the midst of the battle.
Thanks for sharing a preview!
When do guild emails start going out so we can start playing in the map and testing its possibilities?
What’s the approximate size of the map (say, compared to a BL or EBG?)
What happens if there is an overflow with no enemies to fight? Not looking for another PvE map here. Fights are integral to WvW.
Different styles of keep/tower lords were mentioned. Can we get a preview of a couple of them?
Can someone ask this question
- Can we select which overflow map we want so that we can group with friends and rule the map?

As much as I love that darn room I hope they don’t add any jumping puzle, or any other PvE stuff.
Seeing that there are no real pvp guilds in the test, I wont be surprised if the new map is full of awesome jumping puzzles and pve things. After all it seems to be the only thing Anet is able to deliver.
*1. What kind of activities will be able there? Random large/small-scale fights? Siege fights? Q-A wvW puzzle?
2. Will people be able to do GvG on that map?
3. Will it be able to join that maps while it is not queue on the maps?
4. Basicly u want to promote WvW for PVE players more, so they will not get bored in queue and stand all the time to farm PVE inside WvWvW? Or they could do their achivments in some overflow maps while regular wvw players can easily get on BLs or EBG?
5. When u think u’ll be able/plan/want to release it? *
Best reengis.

So you are fully aware of every single guild in the test then?

- Can we complete all kind of WvW achievements there?
- Are there enough activities for players if a server is alone on the map? Can you still, earn WXP?
- How will you prevent a severe drying-out of the traditional WvW maps caused by a high attractiveness of the new map?
- Could the new map replace Obsidian Sanctum as a battlefield for GvG?

Noon PST is 8pm UTC, right?
Yes, 8pm UTC, 20:00 GMT and 21:00 CET…
The only question I have:
As someone who despises the whole blob game type, will there be MEANINGFUL stuff for a solo player to do, or a small strike team of 2-3 players. Current WvW is not conducive to that play-style, and I want to know if this new map will attempt to create an environment that both promotes and rewards this play-style.
Thanks,

I’d love to see that too
I’m concerned how this maps and it’s possible clones will work with the " war score". Will it have any effect or will it just be a WvW-esque map where one can do WvW activities (siege, etc.) but not actually contribute to the server’s score?
If there is scoring involved, what’s in place to keep one-sided overflows from forming (where there simply is no one of opposition)? As mentioned before, will placement to the original four maps be forced or will one be able to stay in the Edge?

You are not able to earn “war score” on the new map.

So it’s more of a place where we get to pretend we’re in WvW but not really doing anything? I guess that’s fine if you just like the WvW activities without caring for how well your server does.
That poses another question: What will be the incentive to hold any objective? If it’s a “yes” to WXP and/or achievements (asked above), then this map is bound to end up nothing but a zerg train.
