I like the concept of a council to give a unified voice to the state of WvW.

What is the criteria for membership of said council? I don’t recall voting anyone from JQ to represent :-)

They are self proclaimed that is why no one cares, in fact most of them are extremely toxic, not all (Malevolent and Vortex are good guys, their guilds are good).

Some of my guesses are :

Popularity
Whisper one another a lot in game
Large enough guilds
Activity within wvw

I know no one has ever come to me and asked if so and so should be a server leader regardless which server I’ve been on. And as far as I know it doesn’t happen to anyone else either. Maybe it’s a secret society, like Skull and Bones, Masons, etc…

Server leaders are the community organizers who can influence how WvW is played on their servers. They are usually guild leaders, officers, popular pugmanders, or owners of various infrastructure(server TS/websites etc).

They are not elected generally, nor have any real power other than what the community grants them.

They are also incredible important. For example I cannot think of anyone more significant to BGs success in WvW than Choc Pudding, even though I never saw him tag up or lead anything in WvW proper. He just moved behind the scenes to influence events.

Give you a break from what? The idea that people spend thousands of hours and thousands of real world dollars to influence their server? I’m not saying it is a good or bad thing, just that it happens.

Do you think that the servers in the top tiers of WvW just magically landed there? There are structural reasons for those servers to be there, and often those structures were aided or created by community leaders.

Yes, the T1 servers are where they are because they have more people and stronger coverage, but do you think those people just randomly appeared on those servers? Those servers bought guilds and players, paid for them to transfer. Then other people saw that those servers were more organized and serious about wvw and decided to transfer to those servers as well.

The people there were mostly those who lead prominent guilds on each server, command forces or help organize things for that server. For those from other servers trying to find some way to be offended by this, don’t. BG/TC/JQ are, for the foreseeable future stuck in a giant perma-matchup so the reason there are only people from those servers is because things only pertained to those servers.

I personally couldn’t stay watching it as it was streamed because it just made me want to keep throwing out negative comments, and that won’t help. I just wish this had happened prior to season 2, when it should have happened. We could have perhaps saved a whole lot of burnout on all three servers and perhaps population wouldn’t be as crappy as it is now.

Each T1 server has a couple of thousand players whom have WvW’d. This handful of players in the meeting weren’t voted on. I’d also wager most players don’t even know who they are. What they are though is caring and proactive players trying to make the game mode more interesting, fun, and engaging place for everyone. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that desire. They should be applauded for their good intentions and for putting forth some effort in making the game mode better.

If anyone has any ideas of things to do, please do feel free to post them here. Please keep the suggestions based on what the current game design allows us to do.

Can do!

T1 should
1) work on keeping all time zones balanced, not just overall ppt.
2) organize cross-server push weeks, and other events. Rather than separate scheduling.
3) in general act like friends playing a game together, rather than fighting a war of extermination.

Basically this. It’s a way of opening up communication between servers to better understand each other to prevent misunderstandings in order to prevent the mistakes of the past, so we can keep T1 healthy and fun for everyone

For those wondering about the people in the channel, BG’s leadership is literally just the GM and officers of every WvW guild and some WvW active PvX guilds. TC has a rotating leadership and JQ has a council of sorts similar to BG. Most servers have some form of this. T1 just takes it to the next level in order to organise ourselves in order to maximise our effectiveness on the field and internally. It’s not for everyone, as such a structure was made to PPT, but it does help with providing a more stable leadership

Not to speak for Nox, but I’m guessing it’s the part in the dialog where the leaders are talking about taking turns having a “push week”, which implies that the matches are pre-determined who is going to win. Of course why would you even want one side to win, unless it was to make sure that the 3rd ranked servers’ glicko rating never dropped low enough so that a T2 server could end up in a T1 match.

One would have to check the glicko history to see if there was a pattern of gaming T1 matches to keep T1 intact.

t2 servers have roughly the same amount of peak time players online.

From a player’s perspective, it is a commitment by some of the big guilds and their commanders to regularly lead zergs on a particular server for the week.

I am not a commander, but I think anyone can see how hard it is to run a 40 person mixed pug and guild zerg for 4-6 straight hours. You probably would not want to do that every day.

I’ve noticed recently when a T1 servers’ glicko rating gets close to 2100 they some how come in first the next week.

I think the meeting points out the Push Week idea was a strategy to keep players entertained so they would stay in the game. Rotated because the commanders have day jobs? Not sure. In the meeting, they seem to be volunteering for a lot of work with everyone pushing at once, to get more people engaged in WvW.

I dont think so… They are literally taking turns getting first place. It could be so much fun to totally shut down a server during their “push week” but yall seem content to roll over and let the situation stagnate.

You’ve misunderstood the issue.
If a T1 server decides to “push”, they pull together a coverage much, much better than the remaining two, making it near impossible to beat them with short notice. When such a thing occurs, the server is carried by a handful of commanders doing some serious overtime (e.g. in the realm of 7-8 hours straight). This is obviously not sustainable in the long run so it’s often done for one week at a time.
Servers “push” on their own schedule. It happens infrequently enough that it’s most often at different times – this is the bullkitten part, and this is what the people in the meeting want to change to a coordinated week where everyone puts in an effort at the same time. For some actual PPT competition, which will in turn (hopefully) create more fights as well.

What most people fail to notice is that it isn’t T1 that has a lot of people, it’s that the other tiers have too few people. We really need more people engaged in wvw, and the servers below T1 need it even more. If BG is just queueing 2 maps on reset night, I can’t even start to imagine how is the situation on the lower servers on non-prime times. BP was already a desert land when I left 6 months ago.

I have no doubt that the self appointed server leaders all meant well and had good intentions. It’s also not really in doubt that a rotating door into T1 is not healthy. Every time a server has dropped out, the transfers off are uneven.
It’s not stretching the imagination that if it became some sort of zero-sum apocalypse that we could see one super-stacked server at the top that just chews through the different servers that move up until everyone quits WvW.

However, the same folks involved have been those who have been at the heart of many of the destructive practices that has driven their tier to this state. The double-talk, the artificial bolstering, 2v1’s that were more destructive to those doing it than the one they did it against, the fact that no two servers have pushed on the same week outside of seasons in recent memory….

There is a purity in playing to win. If you have to have commanders play for 8 hours to win, you are doing it wrong. If you have a commander who is willing to do that; then fine. However, that shouldn’t be a regular thing.
