Game Graphics settings for better performance
Reflections and Shadows are the biggest FPS killers in my experience. I turn them both off completely.

i am also interested in this information. setting my game to "best performance" seems not to be enough when i hit a large zerg. i drop to 2 FPS in the really big fights. yeah, you read that right, 2 FPS. it’s killin’ me (literally... in game at least)

Shadows, yes, but the biggest impact on your FPS is Shaders and Anti-Aliasing. The FPS difference between Medium and High for Shaders is substantial, but so is the look and feel of the game. Disabling altogether will result in some crappy looking armor and buildings. Setting shadows to Medium will help, and setting to Reflections for Terrain and Sky tend to fair better.
However, depending on your card, you might be CPU-bottlenecked as well. So you might not see major increases in FPS when you mess with some settings.

yeah shaders were the first thing I was dropping down. Wish it would even allow a low setting. In PvE/Singleplayer I turn them back to high again – because they look really pretty – something that is unnecessary in WvW (as is the snow that is flying around the air on the map, and all the other details…)
And yeah, I’m aware that the CPU is the bottleneck. That’s why I haven’t lowered the resolution (1080p) yet too (from what I understand higher resolution is heavily GPU- and not CPU-intensive) – does anyone else had WvW zerg improvements with a lower resolution? I’m guessing that a lower resolution would hinder playing the most…
But I don’t intend to change my PC – I just upgraded and hey for not even owning a discrete GPU I’m having loads of fun with this massive game. I just would like to get the best performance with what I have.
It will be definitely interesting fiddling around with the upcoming Culling-Patch and trying out if playing against only-playernames is doable

Then you have no hope… Just changing the Hardware.

This game uses FXAA anti aliasing which is minimal performance hit. I get the most FPs gain by completely turning off shadow and reflections. I don’t care about how pretty the game looks in WvW to be honest.

figured as much. crap. i looked it up not so long ago, and my processor is supposedly sufficient… my weak link is my vid card.
