Ok so im not hugely experienced in WvW but I know enough to see that Gandara have a bit of an issue. You see we are a peaceful folk, instead seeming to enjoy hitting animals and zombies on the head rather than nasty invader people. Roughly translated- we seem to be more of a PvE server and lack the numbers for a decent WvW campaign. We arent shockingly bad and do pretty well with the small numbers we have but we’re one of those yo-yo servers that comes bottom of the pile one week and then does pretty well the next week when we’re moved down to gain promotion again. This in itself is frustrating but I cant complain too much as half the time we’re kicking kitten The following however is an issue…

So in case you dont know us Brits have a friendly rivalry with the French. No idea how it come about but we joke that we hate them and they joke that they hate us. The issue is that we keep popping back up the rankings to meet two French teams. Naturally they work together to crush us Brits in a 2 on 1 offensive and down we go again. The amount of times we’ve faced them is crazy and with our already low numbers we stand no chance.

So why am I posting? It isnt to call for ANET to change the rankings, its a shout to any guild that may want to change servers to come to Gandara. We’re resilient but lack the numbers for a sustained push in WvW. A major plus side is that the longest ive ever waited in queue was 30 minutes and that was a month ago.

Gandara might be classed as a UK server but there are many nationalities here so dont fret if you arent from around these parts, all are welcome. This server has the potential to be awesome with your help so come join us and kick some French butt! (actually…French are welcome here too. Be a better French person and join us too!)

Oh and call me silly but why should server numbers affect WvW so much? Surely that is just encouraging players to jump ship if their server is not very populated, furthering the decline.

Now this is just sad, you took 10 guilds from underworld 2 weeks ago, taking the majority of our wvw population claiming you were an amazing server on the way up already! and you still cant defend yourself, while underworld recovered and united all of its server and is moving up the ranks.

If you can’t keep your rank, you drop. You shouldn’t try to ruin even more servers with you’re own selfishness begging guilds to move to your server and save you.

2 vs 1 isnt going to be fixed by server population, fact is until you get it 1vs1vs1 you aren’t going to last very long.

At this point you have numbers, your communication and organisation is the issue now i imagine.

Gandara needs a night crew, most ppl lost the will to fight this week because we are facing the same 2 servers from last week, and everyone knows, no matter how hard u try, at night they will just cap everything with huge zergs.
Ppl lose money, the ones that really use it, to see it all gone when u go to sleep.
This isnt a war of brits and frenchies, i dont even know if brits are majority on Gandara.

I support this shout to guilds, with another shout for players that can support us at night. (at daytime if u want too)
We will prolly be facing GH and AM next matchup, no frenchies yay.

The guilds that came from UW didnt change our real problem with night crew. In my opinion it isnt the day time we have problems with, we do pretty good actually. Our problem was never daytime, but ppl jump server like from any other server, because of this nightcapping issue.
I am from Gandara, since even in Betas, i never jumped server, also i dont blame anyone that did it to get better WvW matches. It would be bad if some Guilds would leave Gandara so i understand ur anger.
I really didnt like guilds leaving servers making their WvW matches even more difficult, i even thought about leaving Gandara for a while to try help another server but some guildies didnt want that.
So my shout is basically for night shift, lots of US guilds maybe have lots of queues at their primetime, so why not try ask?

What Gandara lacks in WvW it makes up for in personality and PvE so its not about stealing from other servers, its about inviting people to experience life with Gandara. This server in my opinion has something special but it does lack a nightshift. French servers have their nightshift with French-Canadians joining the fight. We have a few hardcore players struggling to keep what has been won during the day.

So yeh, would be great to have some dayshifters, would be greater to have some nightshifters but overall it would be great to see this server full to the brim with fun people. If youre unhappy with your current server come join us!

Gandara never took guilds from underworld in fact we were all a little shocked to see an influx of new guilds and commanders after our match up. Commanders that barked orders and really didn’t get how we’d bonded as a community of hardcore WvWers and of course those who WvW on limited time.

Right now we have a real issue where during the day we can hold our own and during peak hours you can really see the others servers start to panic. Then at night all our hard work is undone through Night Capping which is truly a demoralising thing to witness indeed.

I return to Gandara Borderlands and the wail of Bessie from the supply camps is heart breaking, forced into French servitude and she doesn’t like it at all.

I’d very much welcome a night service to the server, on Friday night after reset we’re VERY active but due to jobs and other things that tapers off as the week goes on. Last week we pushed back from third to first but lost steam later in the week and this week faced with the same servers again, I think a number of players sat back and decided to PvE instead.

The night capping issue is a right thorn in practically every servers side but it’s not going away so those of us who want to move up the tables have to put the feelers out for those who can fill that void.

My personal feelings on this it’s up to the individual whether they come or go no matter what server it is.
The real point is night capping or day capping depending on your time zone call it what you will, it is non the less an issue for the majority of servers.
One thing I can say about the Gandara population on WvW is that they have something quite a few servers are lacking and that is heart.
So really what I am trying to say is don’t join or even stay with Gandara because we asked you to, do it because you want to.
I’d take 10 people who came through their own preference against 1000 who came through pity or enticement.
I myself am and always will be Gandarian till the day I stop playing

Well put guys. The issue of nightcapping is a depressing but all too real story and its not something that is going to go away soon. Gandara could be a very strong server indeed if we had a night team so if there are any guilds or individuals who would like to come and experience what Gandara offers come over and check the server out. Even if its for a limited time, at least you can take in our philosophy and culture before you head to another server!

I was in the teamspeak meeting where a number of Gandara “reps” had joined and invited the guilds to move, he was selling how you had the numbers and the night team and all you needed was experienced commanders and leaders to unite the server blah blah blah, you get the idea. Then those guilds all jumped ship, taking 1000s of players with them and crippling our server at first.

Its disheartening that underworld probably wont get much higher even though we are organised and united because servers like yours beg others to jump ship.

Hell my guildies get whispers from different servers including yours asking them if they can get there guild to move or what to move and join one of your guilds.

Fact is not everyone can be number 1, if your server cant hold its rank it will drop until you hit evenly matched numbers like we are experiencing now.

Enjoy the game, if you drop you drop but trying to mess up other servers to solve your own issues isn’t fair on anyone

Not sure who that was but it would help if there was a name to go with the “accusation” and how did a Gandara “Rep” end up on your TS if he wasn’t invited?

Phoenix, all i have to say to u is hate the player, not the server. You really hate us since the guilds from UW moved to us and like i said, i understand that. But many of us speccially the ones that are here since launch or BETA even are not the cause for it.
U as u say as leader of the UW alliance shouldnt put accusations on a server because of some random member if that is true.
Give an example as leader. Leaders dont bash other servers ty.

This was at least a week or two before Halloween and I said no to the offer and left as soon as I heard about it so I cant remember which guild he was with, I think he just called himself the gandara alliance rep or something along those lines.

I’m unhappy that you are asking other communities to move servers at all ,its what kills all of the lower servers enjoyment of wvw. If you cant win at your current level then just move down ranks to a level you can handle since theres no benefit for been a higher tier since you end up at the level where your server is usually evenly matched to the others. I would suggest spending less time making threads like this and more time uniting your server and organising events like we did.

Ill have a look If i can get you some names though, i usually just tell my players to block and delete any of those kind of mails and im not in contact with the guild leaders who jumped ship.

I don’t hate you, im just disappointed with all of these threads, you risk ruining other servers because you want to move a rank higher which is a meaningless number in itself. lower tier servers suffer and end up dead because of it. Its killing the game for alot of people and for no good reason.

If you’re unhappy with Gandara then why haven’t you made the same protest in other threads of the same ilk started by other servers? It seems more like you dislike the fact that people chose to leave Underworld after our match up before Halloween and came to the server that if I do say so, had a jolly good time giving you lot the run around.

We are not responsible for the choices guilds and players make in game just like you’re not responsible if people choose to stay on underworld.

I think you’ll find that on Gandara we do have organised events and we have fun motivating people in map/team chat, which is why Underworld faired so badly last time. The guilds on Gandara do talk to each other and yes there may be the odd bad apple, the other folks on the server if they feel a player is being hard done by will tell the party in the wrong to keep it schtum

Right now we’re at a stalemate in the rankings, we hit Fort Ranik and go no further so we need a night service to combat their 24 hour rampage and the alliance they seem to have formed with the other opposing server this week in order to keep us down.

You’ve turned this into a somewhat malicious, he said, she said but as I say to all the bossy folks in /team chat in WvW who don’t seem to appreciate folks building, repairing and all that melarky. Leave people to play the game how they want to, they’ll soon come into the fold when they get trampled by the french zerg :P

We’re not INSISTING that people choose Gandara, we’re say “Hey we’re an option” if like [FMV] they choose to leave the server they’re currently on.

I understand your point, although I still feel that its unfair to try to get guilds to move even if youre struggling to hold your rank. you must understand that its killing all of the lower servers for nothing more than a few members. KISS recently left GH and they have started to plummet ranks, 1 guild moving can make a huge difference.

Although this entire reply may be the result of fending off more servers like yours right now to the point that I have Seafarers alliance members sending private messages to people on my guilds private invite only forum, its pathetic the levels its going to at this point :/

Fact is if you drop ranks who cares? you only drop to a level where you can comfortably play without winning or losing every week after all.

The thing is – we have a core of players who will log on and fight the French hordes whatever are the odds no matter if we have out maned buff or if we own the whole map. However, we have a lot of people who join only when we are doing good so our WvW populations vary. I feel sorry for them – most fun and sense of achievement in WvW was when we were losing or facing vastly superior enemy in term of numbers. And I just LOVE the fact that when we are clearly defeated we don’t quit and we decide to have fun. Take last night for example when we got drunk at our spawn point and then decided to take supply camps. It took ten of us 5 minutes to kill a skritt we ran across accidentally due to everybody missing, falling over or puking all over the place due to drunkness. And then we ran into an enemy zerg which we charged nevertheless thinking that we can intimidate them so they won’t notice we are drunk.

My stomach was hurting afterwards from laughing too hard…

I never intend to switch servers, we are at the moment where we deserve to be. There is a room for improvement and I love how we never lose our fighting spirit or the ability to have fun in WvW no matter what the score board says.

So because other servers are aggressively going after Underworld players you figured it’s okay to throw aspersions around about another server without any proof and make us look bad despite us having a very friendly and chilled WvW community?

Well it was gandara that originally started it off which caused the issue. Ive already talked to seafarers about it since spamming other peoples forums is just ¬_¬

without proof? I saw it happen myself and was asked to move to from a guy claiming to be a higher up in one of your largest wvw guilds. Although i didnt expect to need screenshots so I cant post what I dont have.

Either way live with your rank, we found that even with less wvw population theres a lot you can improve. At this rate we will be fighting you in a month or so anyway :P

I avoid the forum like the plague normally (or like people avoid my plague when I’m chain blinding them…) but, having seen this thread:

I rolled on Gandara when I bought the game a couple of weeks after launch and I play most nights, from maybe 11 until 3 or 4am. I’ll quite often nip out to LA when our numbers dwindle and shout for more players to join us, but it’s generally met with silence or a couple of jokey remarks and little if any take up. I understand the call for players to join us from other, international servers- I really do- and I think it makes sense, especially since we’re the “other” unofficial UK server. That said, I think that we also need a bit of a rallying call made to our own players.

There seem to be quite a few WvW guilds on the go at the moment and, from an outside perspective, it’s not overly clear as to how they interact and communicate with each other- which is pretty much why I haven’t looked to join any of them, even though they have some great commanders and players in their numbers. We really do have some fantastic people on our server but I’ve no idea as to how to get them a bit more enthused and join us in WvW. It feels a bit like we’re missing a trick somewhere and it’s frustrating, as I think that we could be doing better than we are.

Regardless, I’m not going anywhere. Gandara’s a great server and I’ll stick with it no matter where we end up in the rankings.

It’s less that Gandara’s activity in WvWvW is to be honest, pathetic, and more that we having been getting double teamed by the French for some time. There is really no denying the obviousness of their collusion.

Thing is, though, that if that’s happening (I know they deny it but agree that, at times, it certainly feels like it is) then we need to find a way to hunker down and deal with it, instead of crying foul. We fight on, do our best and if we lose, we lose. At the end of the day we’re blue and not red this week, so if there really is an alliance then it’s not working as well as it probably should.

Don’t ever believe anyone, who tells you they’re the servers rep. No 1 person can represent an entire server. No 1 guild represents our entire WvW core.

99% of Gandara didn’t even know about the UW alliance moving up. When I mention WvW and fmv and Khal, I STILL have to explain to people who they are and where they come from. Most of the regular people on Gandara were very, very shocked about them moving up. Hell most disagreed with it. I knew about it but very very very very few Gandarans did. The point I’m trying to make; dont accuse an entire server of stealing guilds when it was 1 guy or guild.

On another note. Gandara’s original core of WvW players really doesn’t lack heart, but we seem to have a lot of people who do . An example being; I was commanding on a map yesterday and we were out manned. I asked 6 different people to tell their guilds we needed more people. 10 minutes later I saw people from all 6 guilds. It was beautiful. We need more people like this and our nightcrew, and we can go further. Much further.

Funny experience tonight in a borderland, two trebs up and we were smashing down a Jade Sea wall, things were getting touch and go for them. Then we hear “INCOMING!” and look behind us to see Fort Ranik in all their glory come and take us down, only to move on without continuing what we’d started.

Working together or not that seems suspicious!

Plus we’ve named our Dolyak which makes us the best server ever. Long live Bessie!

I have been on Gandara since the later stages of Beta and have enjoyed my time there. I spent a large majority of my time to 80 in WvW because its fun.

I recognize a few of the posters here from the “battlefield” . Hail fellow Gandarans! :p

Even though our current 2 opponents have teamed up against us we have not given up. And that is what I like about my server.

Gandara is a great server, highly competitive 12 noon til 12 midnight GMT. So if any NA or Oceanic players fancy enhancing the late night crew they would get instant queue’s and loads of WvW action.

That’d be great but it never works that way, it always ends with EU guilds on US servers helping them and not the other way. It’s sad really.
