After seeing it mentioned once more on the forums in a thread that disappeared for another reason I would like to know an answer, one way or the other on the issue of rezzing downed players through the gates of keeps/towers. We have had discussions in-game on it to no end, some saying it is a cheat, others saying it is not due to the fact the players could/should pull you away from gate before killing you. Out of all the times it has been asked about in the past I have never seen a definitive answer from ANET on the subject and I do think one is required.

Is this a legitimate strategy or is it abusing an inherent flaw in the game design?

Its not a cheat. Its an abuse of an unintended mechanic (ie reviving not caring if there is a wall between the reviver and revivee).

It is however an equal opportunity abuse. AoE doesnt care about walls either and a zerg is highly likely to kill whoever is trying to revive from behind the gate. Guardian staves and all manners of AoE kill everything.

So yeah… Do you want to remove AoE from the game? If so I’m fine with removing the ability to revive from behind the gate, lol.

You are far better off accepting it as being part of the game design and going on about your life. I guarantee you will never receive an answer from any Anet employee on this matter, nor will we receive a timely fix if any at all.

Its a game mechanic problem that a gate/wall/object is not really “a solid thing”
1. You can AoE the one side of the gate and damage on the other
2. you can rezz through gates
3. you can glitch pets through gates (not sure if that is completely gone theses days)
4. Mesmer clones are summoned on the other side of gates
5. You can shoot a Treb at the inner gate to create damage on the outer side.
6. you have a better LOS to enemies from below a wall than being on top of a wall defending.

I doubt that the rezzing you mentioned can be fixed without tackling the other issues as well and knowing that the WvW team is rather small compared to other sections of GW, I will try to cope with the problem not hoping for a fix.

Expecting an answer on this topic is about as likely as winning the lottery. First they would have to change someone’s name and label to have ‘wvw’ in it and then they would have to post here (even if just the standard ‘we are aware/working on it’ never to be seen or heard ever again).

You can dream that they will eventually make it so that if you are dead, you are automatically re-directed to spawn or forced to choose a waypoint.

All completely dead are immediately teleported to spawn is the best.

  • Friction war instead of winner take it all
  • Down-State becomes a meaning even for the classes that cannot do much while downed

If they would additionally disable rally in WvW, the game would be much better.

Optional improvement: Bloodlust score should be given for any dead, not only stomped ones. (Fleeing into water, jumping down a cliff, Alt-F4 all this stuff only to avoid a Bloodlust score point would be better in my opinion)

They should just add a timer. And not a huge one. Something like 30 seconds to 1 minute before it automatically waypoints you back, regardless whether or not someone is trying to rez you.

There is a timer of 15min, if you remain dead you will get kicked from game due to inactive. However its easy to reset that timer just by switching a piece of gear. Yes switching gears, when you are dead.

Or use food, or a transformation tonic, or pop out a mini. Also, seems that salvaging items from inventory works. I’ve used all these to delay the inevitable.

15 minutes is way too long. And like you said, it’s incredibly easy to reset it.
Anyone who had to babysit a body next to the gate can agree with that.

Plus, forcing automatic rez on players dead for more than a minute might change zerg fights a bit.

The solution for me, as well as the solution to hard rezzing in combat, would be force respawn on stomp with the ability to stomp defeated body.

But yeah… Best course of action is to treat it as a game mechanic and use it yourself…

I say the best solution is that they must allow banish or any kind of push/pull attacks on dead bodies when you’re not in combat. Plus we need golf club as a hammer weapon. FOOOOORRRREEEE!!!

Interesting! Someone decided to change the title of the thread for me. I surmise that asking ANET directly for a response to an ongoing issue is forbidden so they were forced to sanitize the thread. My bad, I will not be doing that again. It does bring up another question however. What are these forums for? If it is only to discuss things between players then that has been done in-game countless of times with no consensus.

After re-reading the CoC I suppose it falls under.

Heh, yeah, we had a mesmer the other morning in one of the keeps we took sit at the gate dead for over two hours, he was changing armor to avoid forced respawn. His friends would come up and try to res, he did get revived once but we had a ballista trained at him and he got one shot. They did eventually manage to get him up and portal into the keep inner. Thankfully we had people nearby and were able to repel them. He died away from a gate that time.. I guess he probably didnt want to sit for another few hours. Dedicated mesmers…

I do not see Anet changing hard rezzing through gates, but at least they should make it so people can not just change a piece of gear and lying dead somewhere for hours.
Why that is possible in first place, i have no idea.

It is unintended design. The game prioritizes ressing players over all else. Which means even if you’re trying to res someone against a gate that could be repaired for example, you will go straight to ressing without being forced to repair the gate.

Any access to a structure outside of going through an opening or using a “fair” portal is abusing a design flaw. Mesmers jumping over walls into SM inner, glicthing through doors, etc all fall into the “ANet should have fixed this months (years) ago”. While not technically a cheat, certainly poor sportsmanship.

Well my thoughts on the issue are that if you can kill a person on the other side of a gate with a greatsword then you can rez a person on the other side of the gate. Still would love to hear a definitive however.

If they do as one off my ideas was so you an not ress a dead player when in combat will make it harder to ress player on other side of the gate.

Ps guards should see stelthed players.
