Hi guys and gals.

Recently I had the chance to start running WvWvW (as I finished what I set for a goal to accomplish) and all I can say is there are some that know what they are doing others don’t. Those that know the IN’s and OUT’s I applaud you for your outstanding job and performance. Commander’s…..What can I say; having run with some of you has been great others well let me say the following. I know GW2 is just a game, but come on now. As a commander you you should be able to rally people into groups, should have a game plan, and so on. However, in the last few days or so I have only ran into 2 on my server (on Sunday specially) that can accomplish this and thank you. Coming from a background of military and knowing the important parts of success along with Leadership its saying something.

When logging back in later in the evening I almost fell out of my chair. All the hard work the everyone put into recovering all the map was tossed in the can and flushed (LOL). There was absolutely no points left in our possession. Also, when entering WvWvW there was no organization what so ever. And there was even two commanders in there! LOL Again, I applaud all of you that know what to do when the time comes.

With that said what I would like to do is create a few ideas or key points in WvWvW to keep in mind at any given time (as I am sure there is WvWvW guides out there this is just more to add to them).

KEY POINTS:

  • Take a Key point
  • Build and Supply
  • Defend key points
  • Upkeep
  • Move on to take another key point
  • Take minor points

Taking a key point:

  • Make sure every one in the group/squad has supplies. If there is a lack of people with supplies on the way to the assault make a stop by a supply point.
  • Figure out which key point to take whether its the garrison or a tower.
  • Commanders or the one organizing the assault make a game plan and how this is going to be accomplished.
  • Handful of people should be caring siege weapons at all times when they can.
  • Commander(s) or again the one organizing the assault you should have some knowledge of where to put siege equipment when needed or required.
  • Once the game plan is thought out Put it into play.

Oh almost forgot have a Scout to see what they can see at different areas it helps. If determined use two people.

Build and Supply:

  • Once the key point is taken Specially if the garrison Everyone should build and supply not just one, two or three Everyone.
  • Once majority is completed to were only a few pieces of siege equipment is left to be finished being built. Then move on and leave a small party to run supply and finish building not to forget to mention they should also keep and eye out for the opposing server.
  • This cannot be stress enough ………Do not use supply in the key points.…… Supply in the key points are needed when under siege since supplies will be cut off. Which shouldn’t be used for building up the siege weapons right after the point is taken.
  • Immediately after taking the key point Start upgrades to garrison and towers. (Do not worry about upgrading small minor points as these are always taken fist in most cases. It will be just a waste at times to upgrade minor points)

Move on to take another key point:

  • Simple right? Self explanatory right? Not as much as it may seem. Commander(s) need to prepare and get a game plan going.
  • While the Build and Supply is going on he/she should be planning the next assault. Figure out which party you want to go where. Whether it be everyone to the next point or a small party else where. You get the idea. Plan Plan Plan that is the key to success.
  • At this time the Commander or on organizing the assaults should have a party running other minor points that take few people to take. ie. Supply points.
  • Have everyone re-supply up (Do not take from the key points; supply up at supply points) and get those that can re-stock siege weapons. You will need them at anytime.
  • Once everything is planned and everyone is supplied put the assault into action.

After the taking of a key point see BUILD and SUPPLY before moving on to another location.

Defend key points:

  • Defend key points! Specially Garrison then towers when the time comes.
  • If on an assault Commander(s) or the one organizing the assaults should be the one to determine if the point is a key point or minor point and if there should be the need to send people to help defend.
  • If the point being attacked is key point like the Garrison there may be a need to break off the assault sending everyone as re-enforcements to the Key point. Specially if the assault is on a minor point. (Minor points can be taken at anytime)
  • Did I mention Defend Key points!
  • If you are at a key point that is being assaulted that is currently owned by your team; tried to let the team know the amount of the enemy there. Not something like “AB is being assaulted” or “AB being assaulted by a lot of people”. Try to make a good approximate amount. Something like this “AB is being assaulted looks like 5 people” or “AB is being assaulted by approximately 20 people” You get the point. However, in the heat of any good battle there will be times that the only thing that needs to be said is “AB is being assaulted and more that I care to count” or “Help needed ASAP at AB”.

Upkeep:

  • Very Very simple. When you pass a piece of siege equipment that is your team’s jump on it for a second or two. (They de-spawn after I believe 30 minutes) These are your key to successfully repelling an assault on a key point.
  • If there is an upgrade that can be done to key points do it if you can. (Again do not worry about upgrading minor points as these point will come and go.)
  • Supply Supply Supply is a must (utilize supply camps not the Garrison or Tower supply stash).

Take minor points:

  • These are the last things that should be taken (or if you are in need of supplies).
  • If a Key point Garrison or Tower is being assaulted leave the minor point and help Defend! Leave the minor point for later.
  • Commander(s) or the one organizing the assaults should pick a small team/party to run to small minor points to take them once all the key points are taken and fortified. This team/party should be continuously on the move taking small minor points. Additionally taking out the small teams/parties they come across. Additionally, they can be a forward scout to see were the big parties are so that it can be reported in.

Not saying to follow this to a “T”. What I have put in here is just the basics it’s up to the Commander(s) or the one organizing the assault to use their knowledge and to bring everyone to work as a TEAM. That bring me a few more points.

  • Commander(s) should take charge bring everyone in as a team.
  • If more then one Commander is in the map work with other commanders to coordinate assaults.
  • Commander(s) if you are leading assaults and have to leave Don’t just poof and be gone. Let the team know. We all know people DC that is good and all, but if your done for the day Let the team know. This way someone else may step up.
  • Commander(s) or the one organizing the assaults need to or should bring some sort of Team work. Yes this can be hard as some do not like to work as a TEAM. However, do what you can to bring as many people into some kind of team work.
  • “Team work people” This is a point that can not stress enough. Team work will bring a lot of success to any battle. Some servers have this down to a “T” and this shows they are always #1.
  • Want to succeed? Yes, Right? Even if you think as a Commander or the one organizing the Assaults the people there are no good or well yes suck. Do not put them down or disrespect them. Teach them! Bigger numbers can intimidate the enemy and make them run. Most likely you will loose part of your force as they will just leave. So a force of 20 people could very well just go down to 10 in the heat of a battle. No one is perfect not even the most respected Commander out there.

If something is missing or you which to add please let me know. Again this is not a complete “HOW TO” or “HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE” This is just a small guide.

Quite welcome SpaceLord. At first I thought I would just be one of those that would rant and rage how some can not organize anything. However, I sat back with look of disgust that everything people worked for was gone in matters of hours. I got to thinking in stead of ranting and raging which would do no good. I thought would help the community a bit with some ideas that usually work for a starting point that many have been doing over time or building off of. Maybe it will give some of the new players or those that do not know were to begin WvWvW some place to start and build on.

Heh .. general & basic tactics of Warfare. Been asking for that, writing & telling ppl for the past month .. nicely put on paper – for a military man, that is.

Sergeant, you served well your country – it can be seen from the conduct that you imply for others to follow. And I´m quite sure, that there will be many servers, that will try to get you among their ranks. Whatever server you chose to support – good luck.

@allway: Thanks for your response and quite welcome. I in no way will take full credit though. What it boils down to is what experience I bring along with what I have seen and been part of in any gaming and well yes military communities that works best for starting point in any stage of a battle/assault.

@Warlord: Absolutely right one that may think they know all may not know all and should at least give this read. When one may say he/she knows all probably has forgotten some basics. So it is always a good idea to back to the basics sometimes as you never know you may learn something new or even remember something so basic that you forgot.

When I re-read what ibhad put in this little guide I noticed that it missed one major element which if you look at this guide you will see. If your server has small groups at different times out of the day that cannot provide as much like a bigger assualt group would be able to at other times some of these ideas or points may not be the best forour small group. So in the next few days I will see what I can compile for ideas or points for when in small groups in the off times of the bigger group assualts.

Your pointing out an old issue with the current 24/7, 7-day system. Outside of maybe T1 this situation is unavoidable due to night capping.

Your pointing out an old issue with the current 24/7, 7-day system. Outside of maybe T1 this situation is unavoidable due to night capping.

I’m aware it is quite an old issue and quite unavoidable. That’s why I wasn’t about sit there rant and rage about it all :P there is no point to do so as it will get no where’s. That’s why I decided that I would instead of doing all that raging that people seem to want to doprovide something more constrictive and contribute to the community. Hopefully there are some that will take and put some points I’ve provided to some good use wharf ever tier they may fall in. As you can see from some of the responses there are somebout there that have appreciated the information and will most likely usebit as a building block. Thanks for your input too I do appreciate it.

Fellow sgt and commander, I agree.

Helps to have a top level planner to direct teams and the commander(s) around, as ground founders often have narrow vision.
