Get Rid Of Grandmaster Marks
I would love to see the crafting requirement removed. I like the T2 medium armor, but dislike crafting in MMOs in general, and this one in particular. The crafting gate on top of the rank and time gates seems excessive.
I already have three pieces of the T2 gear and I will have the full set in three more weeks. T3 is another discussion with the level requirement but eventually I think I will get there if I don’t burn out on WvW first.
Choosing your own Ascended armor (versus random drops) has always required dedication to crafting and has always been expensive. I don’t see how this needs to change for WvW armor. I already had rank 500 so excluding that cost I have easily earned enough gold from WvW drops and rewards to pay for the required mark materials (mostly leather and silk).
Seems like this patch was just hype to get people to play again and the reality is almost no one will get any of this gear.
I don’t know about the ‘hype’ part of the comment, but my friends and I are crafting this gear. So your reality and actual reality don’t appear to be related.
Alternatively, OP, they should just do what PvP did and include a few grandmaster marks in the final skirmish reward track chests so that you can make some pieces just by playing the game mode.
I would like to see a Grandmaster mark reward track that you unlock when you get 500 in a craft. The last reward is a mark but the rewards up to that point help you make that mark.

Point is this isn’t PvE. There should be absolutely no crafting to buy things from a VENDOR. It already takes 30+ hours a week to get the tickets. Playing WvW should be 100% enough to get the ascended armor. Same goes for PvP but at least they include some marks in the final chest.

Wvw has crafting in it to the point of being wvw only effects. You could go as far as scrib is the wvw crafting class.
Marks are there to keep pve players out of wvw or to keep wvw not the best way to get high level armor. There should be a requirement of crafting to get the best armor but wvw should be able to give you rewards that help you make these marks. This is were my suggeston of a reward track of marks that you get by getting a cap level craft.
You keep the limitation of pve there at the same time reward players for playing wvw.

You can only get the PvP marks once per season, one per tier on the top three tiers which are not easy to get. That’s pretty rare so I don’t see how they should be in skirmish chests as they are pretty valuable as they should be.
Main issues with grandmaster marks:
- You still need 500 crafting in the discipline corresponding to your weapon.
- It’s only marginally cheaper than straight up crafting the weapon. (50g through marks vs. 64g regular crafting for a zojja’s claymore, just as an example)
- It is no less stressful/tedious than crafting normally. In fact, it’s more stressful since some of the materials you craft are exclusive ones and cannot be placed within materials storage so you have to craft it in one go, or have the materials occupy bank space meanwhile.
The whole grandmaster marks system is a bad one imo but unfortunately it’s here to stay.
lmao. Dude when u finish all pips / tickets for the T3 armor(and I’m not putting the level 2000 in the account), you will have enough money to put all the professions in level 500.
U will have a mountain of skirmish chest, may sell all superior siege or convert badges of honor.
Since the upgrade I only made WvW and a little Pvp, I sold everything I accumulated days ago, and got something around 350g. I did not count on, the skirmish chest that I wasted on to get transmutation charges.

NO! Leave it alone. If you do not like it then go play another game. This is not supposed to be easy to get. If you want easy to get stuff go back to PvE!!!!!!!!!
alternatively, just unlock the T3 with the exotic version (3rd tab) – that requires no marks. T3 doesn’t look like it requires marks either….. (for armor anyways)
So… Now we have wvwers not happy because they gotta grind some pve crafting ranks.
Hope that the pro “fulltime job grinding” wvwers appreciate the irony of the situation.
(I mean I agree with OP, but that’s just funny)
Okay okay, back on topic
They could actually do something like pvp and offer a mark for the last chest (diamond).
Actually it could be win win for everyone, max the tickets around platinum or mithril, and wvwers vets who can pip faster could get a “free” mark every week.
Then it would finally be rewarding for vets, and not just punishing for newcomers/casuals.
Everyone wins, right? …right?

Makes even less sense because crafting is actually PvE.
Its very stupid that you need crafting for this reason. Imo crafting something should make it cheaper because im the one making it, just like going out to dinner or making it myself at home. I can make the same dish just as good for much less Money spent on the ingredients. So a vendor in wvw could have another 100 tolens needed for all i care as long as it would nt MAKE me craft. So i dont want crafting i pay more money and its ok. The end

The idea that crafters would get a discount in honor of the time and resources spent leveling their crafting skill (s) makes sense to me. Not having crafted items either tradable, or earned in another, more expensive, fashion does not.

Leveling up a profession do 500, take few minutes, or in worst, very worst case, 1 hour.

A few minutes to an hour eh?
Anyway, I was excited to get an ascended staff for one of my alt accts without having to level artificer for a third time, then I realized to get this staff I’d have to level artificer for a third time. I switched my reward track from hero’s weapons to something else immediately.
I honestly don’t mind working up to the wvw rewards on my main acct (that has all crafting), but it’s simply easier and cheaper to get the HOT ascended weapons and wait for armor drops for my lowby alts.

And here I thought vets were happy with the 2-3 year time gating for the skirmish tickets…now they also don’t mind that you also have to skill a craft to 500 and pay twice as much gold as you would to craft your own Ascended from scratch to get the same end result…
Analogy: I can go buy a basic navy blue shirt for $20 from a big box store that is about 30 minutes away. This shirt is made in a factory in a foreign country, and the same factory also supplies a boutique store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills with the same shirt, only in Midnight Blue, and I would have to drive 7 hours to Beverly Hills for the pleasure of paying $40 for it. When it is sunny outside, both shirts provide the same level of UV protection. Practical people, like me, are just going to the big box store. Vain people…well, you get the idea.
My advice: get 500 in whatever craft you need, make your own Ascended armor, save up tickets for the Legendary back piece, Warbringer, as you’ll need 2800 tickets just for that, but for the other armor items, these are not the WvW rewards you are looking for, you can move along.
I agree…extra expensive, for already time gated items, especially when you have to get the exotic version first before even being able to unlock the higher ascended ones. I’m not saying it should be super easy to get them, but being limited to 175 tickets per week means if you want to buy everything you can buy with tickets, that’s a serious chunk of time. Then to top it off with a really high gold cost? Seems like too much overkill to me. Might as well make the top tier WvW armor legendary to take some of the sting away. :P This also assumes that players won’t spend time in other parts of the game. Not the best way to keep players playing, in my opinion, but it will probably work for the diehards.
(edited by CattivoUomo.7198)
but but, i thought WvWer don’t care about ascended…. the difference is minimal…. exo is sufficient….
Archeage = Farmville with PK
Or they could, you know, give you some marks for completing chest tiers, like they do in PvP…
I don’t get how Anet still doesn’t understand this when we’ve been saying the same thing for years. WvW players DO NOT ENJOY PVE! Crafting is PvE. WvW should be an entirely self contained game mode that requires zero interaction with anything pve related. Everything in wvw should be obtainable purely by playing wvw only. They finally give us an ascended vendor and oh look, we STILL need to do pve to get it. It might as well not even be there and be in some pve map for all the good that does. Put the fracking marks in the reward chests or just remove them altogether.
The pvp armor used to be obtainable without crafting at all, as it should be. Then pvers cried that they had to craft their armor and it wasnt fair, so they put the marks in and forced everyone to have to craft now. We can never have anything nice without pvers crying that it isnt fair to them or that they want it too, but want it easier. Then inevitably, we end up being forced into playing a game mode we hate because of them. Then they wonder why we have such animosity towards them when they come into wvw. Stop F-ing it up for us then maybe we wont hate you so much!
jeez everyone who plays mmos nowadays that complain about gear are so spoiled.
you have no idea what exclusivity is.
I’ve seen several hypotheses in this thread as to why Marks were added to (formerly non-crafting) Ascended item gain. While it’s possible that ANet is aiming to kill several birds with one stone, it seems most likely that the primary reason is the hit to the precious economy that crafting-free Ascended gear would bring. I must admit, I’m of two minds. I could not possibly “hate” MMO crafting more than I do the crafting system in this game. On, the other hand, if I decide that I just am not going to get Ascended items outside of trinkets, then I get more gold for the mats I sell.
I would like to see a Grandmaster mark reward track that you unlock when you get 500 in a craft. The last reward is a mark but the rewards up to that point help you make that mark.
That sounds a good idea. Still need to be a master in the crafting field but an alternate way to get the mark.
i would love to see the reward track and the Grandmaster Marks NOT tied to the crafting garbage….
Maybe the rewards track could give some item that after quite some u could trade it for a GM…
What they should do is what they did in pvp. Grant rewards that allow one to get ascended armor through playing wvw. Then with extremely poor notice, retroactively nerf those rewards so that people that accumulated them will suddenly have their work become worthless. That way they can give a big middle finger again to their community and create wonderful good will like they did in pvp.
the reality is almost no one will get any of this gear.
I doubt that.
the reality is almost no one will get any of this gear.
I doubt that.
I doubt it, also, to the point where I’m certain players will get this gear. Once players made the point to ANet back in the last quarter of 2012 that they would jump through innumerable hoops to get virtual rewards, ANet has obliged this desire to the exclusion of everything else. ANet is married to grindy un-fun reward systems because that’s what players demanded back when. It would take a collective effort on the part of players in the form of just saying, “No!” to ANet’s reward systems to get ANet to change course on how rewards are gained, and that ain’t gonna happen, no matter how many complain on the forums.

The different between spvp and wvw when it comes to marks is that you already have the best gear in spvp from the start but in wvw you must build up your gear. In a lot of ways wvw becomes very restore costly.
I am all for letting spvp players get more marks over time (not the rng drop marks) but you got to make sure that wvw reward track version must give more. The thing is for wvw it would need to be tide to having a 500 level craft of the right craft to unlock it (you got to have 500 wepon crafting to have the wepon mark reward track etc..) so you can never get away from crafting. Where in spvp you just get it because you play.

Its got to be tide to it or your better off just asking for marks to be removed from the game.
The craft tie in lets wvw stay free from pve only game mood as in if wvw becomes to easy to get top level gear then it becomes the new pve and loses all of its pvp play.

Players who participate in systems they find not to be fun because they want the shiny are a major reason we still have systems that are not fun to engage with.
The whole reason grandmaster marks exist is so that buying ascended armor from a vendor is roughly as expensive as crafting it yourself, to provide an alternative to ascended crafting but not one that will make it obsolete.
Remember how precursor crafting isn’t actually any cheaper than buying them? It’s literally exactly the same thing.
Also crafting is very much a WvW thing, whoever said it wasn’t. They had crafting stations in the borderlands for a reason (until a bunch of giant babies cried to anet and got them removed).

Expressing a preference is not making demands, nor is it, “crying.” It is a consumer expressing a preference to a company that wants his money. Crafting is a distinctly unpleasant, to say the least, task (to me). I do not pay entertainment providers to be allowed to perform unenjoyable tasks. Masochism is not one of my faults.
When a reward is gated behind something that I neither enjoy nor actively dislike I may seek to earn the reward because getting it is a neutral action but having it is a positive. This is a net positive for me.
If the task is something that I actively dislike, crafting for example, then the reward is unlikely to provide a net positive experience. Far more likely is that the distasteful task will taint the reward, rendering the entirety of the matter a net negative for me.

Unless you do a lot of 1v1 fighting or you’re the kind of min-maxer who makes a spreadsheet to record his crits you’ll barely see any difference in actual gameplay between a character in full exotics and one in full ascended. There is a difference but no-one running in a zerg as their normal mode of WvW play is going to notice.
I have full ascended on the Ele I play on my main account but the Ele on my second account is mostly in Exotics and the Engi I play on my third account has no Ascended at all. The only difference between them, that I notice, comes from the abilities you get from ranks. Leaving that aside, in terms of how enjoyable they are to play, having exotic or ascended makes no discernible difference.

Your demand has no logical basis simply, why part of the premise that you will have to craft every day.
What I have simply explained is that during the lifespam of a typical WvW player it is insignificant time.
Not even Pve players stop to craft everyday. Only those who do this are “TP players” who make bolt of damask every day.
Theres plenty of guides how to max-craft fast, its take less than 1 hour, and once u have done, good bye to leveling up craft.
http://gw2crafts.net/weaponcraft_fast.html
Even if they removed the craft, they are not foolish about the economy, they would simply put an NPC that would require the same materials or price in gold equivalent around 50g.
They have changed the requirements of the ascedend armors of Pvp and Fractals precisely because the ascedend Armor is one of the gold-sink of the economy, and not for “Pve x Pvp discussion”.

I’m not sure what game you’re playing, but crafting’s always been a part of my experience in wvw. Join a guild, min-max a comp, make builds with team synergy. There are tons of account-bound foods and oils that perform better than badge foods, and the only way to get them is crafting. You pretend to be dedicated, but if you’ve never done the pve grind to get the best out of your wvw builds how dedicated can you really be?
They could take a page from what they did with PvP and add a Grandmaster Mark box to the final Diamond chest. Because WvW is reset weekly instead of every 8 – 12 weeks like PvP, you can only gain a Grandmaster Mark box per Diamond chest once per week. (Further Diamond repeats give more WvW tickets, but not more Grandmaster Marks.)
I feel like most people in this thread are missing the point entirely and are too wrapped up in the usual “You’re not dedicated enough!” MMO insults.
(Which, to be frank, doesn’t reflect well on MMO communities to begin with, but that’s another topic)
The whole complaint boils down to the fact that you have this system that’s unique to a particular game mode that requires a fair amount of time and effort on it’s own…but then the end result is simply unlocking the ability to “Craft” the item using pretty much the same amount of time, effort, and money that making the item normally would have cost anyway.
Which begs the question, why does the WvW-specific system exist at all?
It’s like telling someone, “Ok, you can either work for two weeks to get your paycheck, OR you can work for three weeks for the same paycheck.” (Of course, the MMO community would claim that they’d pick the three week option to prove their “dedication” but hey.)
This entire system is there to reward very old WvW players. And it does that job. I for example play WvW for 4 months, I’m still bronze, and even thos I play 4+ hours a day its impossible to ever finish the track, I always finish between gold and mithril, so I do not really care about the rewards, I like WvW, but the armors and backpieces are like… yeah maybe in 2 years I will revisit the system. I think they should have made different thing to reward old players, and the pip system should be more connected to how you play and how well you do.
My old backstory: http://www.archeageroleplay.com/forum_threads/1873740
Got a better source? That one stops at 400, and between 400-500 is the really slow and expensive part, and needed for the new WvW rewards.

How is that a measure of one’s participation and dedication to WvW?
Gold, got it. Participation in crafting, not going to happen.
I am not making demands. Nor am I intending insult or offense to anyone else. But a reward that consists of: if you dedicate yourself to playing long enough you will eventually be allowed, not to access the reward, but to spend time and gold in some other endeavor entirely. And that, tangential at best, endeavor will be what is rewarded.
i can’t believe u guys still cry about it. Anet should rename this game to snowflake wars.
Level up is a thing u need do ONCE time in a account, i did mine Armorsmith/Weaponsmith in once day 2 years ago then bye.
Lets go to guide to fast level up.
1. Save gold til reach something 150-200g
2.Open any guide on internet.
3.Buy materials.
4.Craft and level up.
——-
2 Years is like 600 days+. i just spend a few hours of one day to do it.U Have 599 days to WvW and forget about craft.Ahh, yes, the special, “snowflake,” and, “crying,” insults." I am sure that you can do better than those old throwaways. Perhaps there is a guide online?
To reiterate:
How is crafting a measure of one’s participation and dedication to WvW?
Gold, got it. Participation in crafting, not going to happen.
I am not making demands. Nor am I intending insult or offense to anyone else. But a reward that consists of: if you dedicate yourself to playing long enough you will eventually be allowed, not to access the reward, but to spend time and gold in some other endeavor entirely.

I have made no demand. You might want to reread the post you quoted. Its pretty clear on that point.
My preference does have its basis in logic:
It would be illogical for me to pay an entertainment service provider for the opposite of entertainment.
Thank you for the link, it is irrelevant though. I do not participate in crafting in GW2.
I did not express a preference for avoiding the cost of the armor. I have stated that I would be willing to pay more than the cost to craft it.
