Get rid of invite in WvW
Ah, sweet death spam.. How you migrate to us from DAoC.
I have spoken to people and have had people speak to me never have i or they ever threatened or moaned. It normally goes along the lines of “you got lucky with that NPC, fancy some proper 1 Vs1” or maybe “well done, what build you using” and such

The last 12 or so people I’ve killed have spammed me with it. The one time I did accept I got nothing but hate spam until I had to block and report that person.
There is also the cheating aspect involved: you can report your worlds movements and sabotage an entire effort.
Leave the invite system alone, I’ve had more positive conversation, than negative ones.
Blocking is always an option.
As to tracking, “I’m in my invulnerable spawn point, come get me bro! Bring the zerg.”

There are other ways to report your worlds movements…Server TS inst really secret to your enemy’s. If they want to spy they will spy, making it so they can’t join parties in WvW won’t fix that.

I only invite to say gg… or to unnerve people who don’t know who’s joining their group. I like it.
Invite spams would get annoying though, yeah.
I think it’s great. My vote cancels your vote out.
And sometimes it’s an important thing, like reporting a hacker to the other side or someone in the guild, etc.
I wish we could talk more freely in fact
I’ve made some good friends with the invites across server lines. Not everyone is going to verbally abuse you, but if they do it’s just as simple as blocking them. It may have something to do with me being an eng most of the time. Eng’s seem to attract different type of player than say… thieves. Most of the time they are asking about my gear/build… since eng’s are so flexible as a class that everyone differs. Usually by quite a lot. Gets a lot of good conversations going.
When I stomp a thief/runner war and get an invite though… I always refuse that rubbish lol.

So you see no problem in people exploiting this feature?
Only if they make it so we can read what all players say in /say. One of the best parts of the game is to have them whine.
I sure do miss the OOooOOOoo of Ultima Online lol.
Met plenty of fine enemy folk in wvws that I`ve had chats/duels etc with, so nope.
Better idea, when invite pops up, add accept/deny/block or automatic block after a few invites in a short time.

OP
Interesting thread, so this is the reason why there are Spies within the group; reporting to the Enemy Servers of the group locations and whereabouts.
If i were Arena net, I would shut off all ports in Voip in WvW, including Map chat.

Maybe my sarcasm meter is off, but it is detecting something.
It’s a bit of a stretch for more than one player to coordinate something with the enemy over VOIP than simply disable the party feature in WvW.
It doesn’t even make sense why it exists in the first place.
It only requires one line at most.
Boo hoo someone trash talked you.. Block them and move on, not so hard.
I love the invite feature, my friend list has 20x more enemies then server friendlies on it. In fact several of my guildies I met from an enemy server. I’ve out of 100’s of times partying with the enemy got trashed talked only a few times. And for those times instead of losing my cool I just talked to them and we ended up on good terms.
Oh and the “spy” argument is completely irrelevant. There are so many other, easier ways to “spy” if someone wanted to.

Maybe it’s just your server hates you!

I couldn’t care less about trash talk. It’s the fact they potentially trifle with friendly party invites and have the potential to spam you if you accidentally click.
There should, at the very least, be an option to refuse all enemy invites by default.

Could you name an easier one if you have no idea who is on the other world?
If a group of people stomp me I’ll oftenly join there party and ask for some duels or if there interested some group duels, more often then not I’m the one that gets abused, however thieves that run around just permanent stealthing till you get bored of there kitten well they deserve a bit of spamming.

That’s a perfect example of why the feature should be disabled.
How do you justify abusing a feature in the game to harass players when you lose in PvP to a certain class?
Op made me laugh with his " invite spam".All he needs to do is get out of thet player’s target and he won’t be able to invite.Looks to me like a personal choice to stay near the dead bodies for a long time. / dance / laugh on dead bodies much? nice behaviour
Spy on worlds ? Seriously?
We should have more invite options in this game not less.We should also be able to see the enemies name perfectly.A lot of “funny things” would be instantly solved that way too and good/ bad players could be recognized for what they really are.

Once you get out of range, they already have your name and can continue spamming invites. How do I know? I mained a thief for a real long time and I still get hate mail.

Stop trolling and you won’t get hate mail ,simple as that.I never got an invite other than someone wanting to duel or mutual congratz. Also no,you only get your name shown if you log off during an invite or you accept party. It is impossible to get it otherwise. Also you can block a person last time i checked.

Yeah, I do. It’s PvP. You’re not supposed to be friends with the enemy team.
Have you even step foot in Obsidian Sanctum? The place is designed to grief enemy players. That’s what the traps are there for. That’s why the arena has a place that is impossible to get up to if you trap the narrow passage leading up to it.
When I defeat a couple players by myself, or fear somebody off a cliff, I usually laugh. That is a legitimate use of mechanics that the developers introduced intentionally.
Spamming people after/while you die wasn’t intended. I’ve also had the same thing happen when I roam solo in the WvW maps. It’s an exploitation of game mechanics to annoy the other player that was obviously overseen by the developers.
Since some of the players (usually kids) abuse this mechanic, it should be removed.

Yeah, it seems like there are too many carebears in WvW who can’t take dying, even though death has an insignificant penalty.
WvW isn’t about fair fights and neither are the associated jumping puzzles.

I try to avoid fights. I tend to aim for objectives. I only fight when I get chased. If people leave me alone I leave them alone. Let me know where I am going wrong here, because I personally found your claim that I am trolling to be offensive.

I haven’t seen the word “trolling” used yet in the context of PvP….
It’s pretty sad really when people try to stymie the only means of open world PvP in a game, because they can’t deal with a trivial death penalty.
Please, don’t rationalize killing somebody in a PvP game. You did nothing wrong; you played the game as the developers intended and many in the PvP community do.
Legitimate players shouldn’t have to suffer because of the mental illness of a few.
Absolutely no in game communication between enemies in PvP. 95% of the time it comes down to someone trolling or being ignorant. Anything to reduce harassment is a good thing in my books.
I have never had anyone hate spam me. It’s almost always a friendly invitation for some proper 1 v 1 which I’m happy to engage. You must just got extremely unlucky.

You think serious “spies” are not going to just sit in the teamspeak/ventrilo/whatever of the side they are spying for?
Oh, they’d rather leave an in-game trail for Anet to follow? Niiiiiice.
Being able to talk to the “enemy” needs to stay. I’ve met a lot of great people through it and it makes the ‘World’ feel a lot less constricted.
Ban people who spam/hate mail you, simple as that.
I’ve had some epic duels through party invites after decent fights and made some great friends on opposing servers, even spent an hour talking about builds with one and it’s made me a better player. +1 for leaving the /invite feature in wvw.

Without prior acquaintance with somebody in the server, no. It’s a lot more impersonal to tell somebody through a game than it is through TS/mumble/vent/skype where they have access to at least some IP.
It also leaves room for disgruntled individuals in WvW to vent their frustrations on their Worlds commander.
Yes, apparently they would, because they don’t mind spamming me with it and breaking TOS, giving me adequate room to report them and have them suspended/banned.
Whenever somebody gets their kitten beat, I have to deal with a non-ending spam of invites (which I obviously reject, or else they’d spam me to death with other kitten).
I’ve only ever used the function in WvW when stuff bugged out and I had to ask the opposite side about something on their end, not to grief, but that has only happened once and generally people organize GvG outside of the game anyway or on an external VOIP.
Even when it’s not being abused to harass players, it’s abused to spy on the enemy world.
Seriously, it makes 0 sense how this feature exists in WvW. Please, remove it.
The feature is fine as-is. Just invite an offline friend to your party and problem solved.

Oh darn. All of my friends are online and doing instances. Guess I’ll have to invite and inconvenience other random people, because some guy can’t handle playing a PvP game.
No thanks. It’s not right to have such an exploitable mechanic in the game in the first place.
I actually really like adding opponent players to party and chatting with them. Just because they’re on a different server doesn’t mean they’re a dirtbag. I’ve met a lot of great people this way who now sit on my friends list. Some of them I talk to pretty regularly.

Well I’m a fair sport. How about we conduct a trial of killing people in OS etc. over so many servers at different times in the day, laughing at them when they die and accepting an invite to see what they think of you?
I’m not trying to play down what you’re saying, but at the end of the day, it’s all anecdotal evidence, including my own.
If we gather enough independent data we can draw better conclusions.
