Hi, I’m hoping to get started on WvW on my guardian as i’ve done all the other aspects of the game (Spvp,, Tpvp Pve, Dungeons, fractals, exploration), and i’m wondering the best way to go about it.
Should i just find a commander on my side and latch onto them, or would i be better off trying to get a small group together and roaming with that?
I dont understand the dynamics of WvW and how actions affect the end result, so it will all be a learning experience for me.
I play a AH hammer guardian geared in knights and berserkers if that makes any difference. Thinking of swapping my rings for soldier stat rings for more survivability.

Any advice would be apreciated

If you have done everything but WvW than you will probably be able to hold your own on the battlefield. The easiest way to start is:
1) press B,
2) choose one of the maps, and watch for a blue “dorito” (commander sign) on the minimap. If there is none go to another borderland.
3) go to the commander, run with the zerg
4) watch the chat window. Most commanders communicate via chat.

Everything else becomes clear eventually. Have fun!

Best advice if you haven’t already is get in a guild, specifically one that has some WvW focus to it, and yes you can just follow a commander but you also mentioned roaming, if your already in a guild or have friends who WvW try partying up with them and doing things

Have your cooking skill maxed so you can make food buffs or buy them off the TP.

Same goes for either oils from huntsman(give extra crit chance) or sharpening stones from weapon smith(give extra power.) Can’t have both on at the same time but they are also nice.

When pushing as a zerg, stay on the commander. If someone drops a water field, do a blast finisher. Idealy a ele will keep water fields on that commander.

Fire fields and using a blast finisher will also get you some buff in the form of might. You can get that stack up to 25.

Blast finisher in electric fields will give a swiftness buff and when used against an enemy, a blast finisher into that field will also stun the enemy. Not sure what blast finishers guardian hammer has but I think they have one.

I think guardians offer better suport to a larger group than a small strike force but either way, they are better with others working with them than trying to run around on your own. Not saying that you can’t roam, just that guardians are better with a group.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.

Follow a commander to start, you need good knowledge of the mode and of the terrain to have a successful small group.

By following the zerg you will not only learn your way around the maps, and basic WvW knowledge, but perhaps even better you can learn even faster what not to do, by seeing some of the common poor decisions always being made in the herd.

As others are saying, follow a commander. Its the most straightforward way to learn the ropes. That said, not all commanders are equal. Some know what they are doing, but will not help others learn. Some know what they are doing, and help others. Both can be incredibly effective, but try to find the latter for your situation. Of course, there are those who have no idea what they are doing!

Keep in mind too, that there are plenty without a commander tag that can help as well. You can ask questions in /map or /team and generally get pretty good answers. You will, like anything involving the internet, probably have to deal with.. less than helpful replies.

Good luck!
