Gift of Battle Feedback [merged]
Bring back the NPC for a time so we can spend our accumulated tokens, and then remove the NPC once again.
I don’t have a problem with doing the reward track if I needed more GoBs. I have a problem with not being notified about such a big change.

Here’s an idea.
Make the reward track complete once and once it’s done, then the merchant unlocks and you get access to it. It’s compromise between the new system and old system.
Why add grind to something that’s already tedious? Thought the whole selling point of this game was to reduce grind. And yet GW2 makes everything take 100% longer than it ever was in GW1.
I like WvW just fine but why add something to hamper people from getting something done. That gives the whole activity this feel of having to be forced into it, ie. grind, in order to get something done. Especially when people have already been drowing in Badges of Honor and other WvW related currencies.

I have 2 worthless Gifts of Battle because it keeps auto-selecting the kitten ed thing and unlike Spvp it’s hard to monitor the track when there’s constant action. Also, the track itself is awful.
Either that or make the things sellable.

Not nearly as tedious/brain-dead however, and PvE grind is at least in different parts of the world. WvW is barely 2 maps, EBG and borderlands.
As I said, I’d be okay if completing the track once unlocks a vendor that sell’s the Gifts.
Rather spend more time getting Triumphant armor pieces than Gifs of Battle.

Huh, my tracks are set at random and I haven’t got this track once… Idk how you got to do it twice without actually selecting it.

I’m sorry but that’s just ridiculous. You know in advance what is required, this is no secret, and should not even be an issue 3+ years later.
Only it wasn’t required before this change. Something you should prob know 3+ years in the game.
What are everyone’s thoughts about making Gift of Battle only obtainable through the reward track?
I have hit a wall in my legendary making and it is the only thing missing. Thought I could buy it with 500 tokens and was excited to finish the weapon, but then realized that I had to play a lot of WvW to get it.
Think you’re asking the wrong crowd, most wvw players wouldn’t care, it’s not painful to obtain through reward tracks, we just need to select the track and play as usual.
Doing world complete in pve is more painful, grinding the other 95% of a legendary for stuff like dungeon tokens is painfully boring.

I see lots of people saying that there wasn’t enough communication to do with Gift of Battles move to a reward track. Not enough warning. Text in the wrong place or that people don’t read patch notes.
Well, I think even if Anet did give date for this change in the patch notes, it would still have come as a shock to some players saving badges for this gift as they don’t read patch notes/ignore patch notes that they think don’t apply to them. You will always have found something to complain about.
The Gift of Battle has always been a requirement in any legendary, you had and still have to play WvW to obtain this (if you spent badges as quickly as you got them like myself). In all fairness badges of honor should have never been in the achievement chests. I believe most of these complaints stem from this currency itself and obtaining it without doing the content to obtain it.
If you’re working on a legendary, you should be well aware you would need a GoB, therefore you should be reading the WvW patch notes until you had obtained said gift. I don’t feel this should have been under its own heading as it was in its rightful place under WvW specifically beta reward tracks, since most people who do keep up to date with patch notes knew this gift was moving to a track within a short amount of time.
Giving a specific date for this change wasn’t necessary, all we needed to know was that it would be changing shortly and to buy the gift if we could as soon as possible. Which I did evidently, because I read the patch notes… You will always have gotten the players who said “not enough time” “not enough notice” “I don’t read patch notes” no matter if the time period was 6 weeks (roughly how long this actually was) or 6 months.
Saying that the patch notes were too long is not an excuse either, it takes about 5-15 minutes of reading to get up to date on patches. That’s not a huge amount of time. 5-15minutes of reading every 2 weeks, such effort.
Tl:dr
Deal with the changes. I’d actually be very happy of including PvP into the gift of battle by doing a reward track for two items in both WvW and sPvP to be combined in the forge to make Gift of Battle, but that’s another suggestion topic I cba to post.
A bit of back ground: I play about 10hrs a week now, I mainly PvE/PvP and only step into WvW every so often when I fancy it.

It has always been expected that you participate in WvW in order to complete the Gift of Mastery. This is why the Gift of Battle exists at all. If you want it deleted, changing how the tracks work or the badges work is just beating around the bush- if it shouldn’t be part of the gift, it should be deleted, period.

Gift of Exploration requiring WvW was removed for a specific reason: Players on Blackgate would never change color from Green and would very rarely have opportunities to get completion on objectives deep in enemy borderlands, while other servers would change color and easily get those objectives. It’s a server-specific punishment which doesn’t make any sense unless you have an extremely malicious view against Blackgate players.

Because you’re taking the ‘original idea’ out of context. In context, the idea is that you shouldn’t need to grind to reach statcap which is broadly true. Legendaries are skins and are therefore not subject to the “no grind” rule.
There are also etymological distinctions between “grind” and “farm” but let’s leave that for now.

i & lots of people dislike playing wvw because of the problems we get from our internet.
i & lots of people love to PVE ONLY , we don’t like wvw .. so in order to make a legendary
we are forced to play wvw , and farm a very full reward track to gain gift of battle
that we used to buy for 500 badge of honor.
do you see the difficulty change here?
please do a fix for this

It’s slow, but you can advance your WvW Reward Track by only doing the Daily, ‘Big Spender’. Master of Ruins, and Daily Veteran Creature Slayer might not depend on ‘good internet’, as well.
You might consider these options while you wait for your suggestion to be implemented, should it ever be so.

If you are adverse to fighting in WvW, take the Karma train on Edge of the Mists with a buff. I did this track in one day running through the mists. Much faster than grinding out 500 badges. Just because something has become inconvenient because you now cant get it right away does not make it a bad method. Try it first then bring your criticism.
Could argue you about needed gift of exploration and not wanting to pve. kitten wish I could of done a reward track for that.

There are people complaining all the time, for all sorts of things. Even the ones you mentioned just now. But lets not go there. Some things will never change.
It’s a fact that the change to Gift of Battle was a big one that deserved a proper announcement in game or in the Legendary section of the patch notes. As a person who never plays WvWvW I never read WvWvW section of the patch notes, why would I?
It would only be fair to bring back the vendor for a day or two so that the people who have stacks of Badges of Honor can use them.
It’s a huge mistake for Anet if they don’t do something like this.
As for the thing you said that you can do it in 1 day, I can confirm that. It’s absolutely possible. From what I heard you need 8 hours of WvWvW to get the full reward track. Not too bad if you ask me, but now I feel forced to do something I never did so meh. At least I can buy cheap cultural armor now and get the Emperor title if they decide to never bring the vendor back.
You do know that if you start doing 1-2 dailies in wvw a day over the whole time it takes you to complete your legendary, you would of had filled the reward track at least once.
It’s really not hard what so ever to get the gift of battle.. Just a bit longer now than before.

You can get the reward track in 1 day. You do not need to run with the zerg. Taking camps and other small objectives will give you max participation as well. Plus that is something WvW needs as well.
The whole argument of having to do WvW to get your legendary is getting old. WvW players have to do PVE aswell. I myself am a pure WvW player with some PVP on the side. I dont have any character with over 20% map completion…. If I wanted the legendary I will need to do PVE in order to get the stuff for it.
You know. I can live with that. A legendary is something you need to work for and do all the modes that this game has to offer. Even if you dont 100% like it. Some people went to WvW to get their gift and ended up only doing WvW cuz they saw how much fun it is. Same for WvW players that went to PVE and stuck around there.
Face it. A legendary is something that is showing others how epic you are (even if they are common ^^). Its not meant to be easy to get. I would start complaining a lot if PVE people get their way and have the gift of battle easier accessible for them. In that case there might be many posts coming about required PVE to get the legendary. 100% map completion was already removed from WvW (nerf) but 100% in WvW is a lot easier than 100% in PVE. Might be something for the WvW players to complain about…..
Live with it. Work for it. Find other ways to get your fun out of the game. There is no need to get lags by running with a zerg. Solo camp or join with 1-2 others to roam around and take objectives that way. It can be done easy cuz thats what I do every evening ^^
Whilst I sort of sympathise, to the point that they should communicated the change better (a small line in the patch notes was poor I thought), Legendaries require doing content in all areas of the game.
I’ve been working on Chuka and Chumpwata and so far I have had to;
- pvp for tokens
- WvW for gift of battle over 1-2 weeks, doing a little bit with the EOTM a day
- Fractals up to 25
- At least a third of all the jumping puzzles in the game for the precursor
- Farming mats/gold
I find pvp terrible, WvW I’m not really interested in and JP’s frustrate me. I’m also inexperienced at Fractals (I did enjoy them though) and inefficient at gold/mat farming (I find it a tedious way to play a video game). However, I recognise these things come as part of what is required of a legendary.
Pvpers, WvWes have to do pve, so it all balances out. A Legendary requires diving into all aspects of the game. So whilst they should have brought back the vendor for a limited time only, I actually think the reward track is a decent way to obtain the gift, especially since they improved the xp gain in the tracks post-beta

This was another crappy idea that needs to be scrapped.
Badges can now convert to Badges of tribute in the Guild Hall. Every 10 = approx 30s. The gift of battle now takes about a week of moderate wvw play using the reward track – no items required, you just play and gain xp
Yes, it was a poorly advertised change, but it isn’t an excessive way of gaining the gift and actually makes more sense than before, and I’m not a person who overly enjoys WvW

My only complaint about the GoB track is that it’s the Balthazaar backpiece PvP track with the last chest changed.

I think you’ve misunderstood how reward tracks work. You don’t need to get any items to complete them. You just activate the one you want to work on, play WvW and you gain points towards it at the end of each tick, based on your level of participation.
The items shown are things you will receive as the reward track progresses.

I loved the change to the Gift of Battle acquisition. Before it seemed so trivial to get, you could legitimately get it without ever stepping into WvW (Achievement point chests).
It took me 10 times longer to do map competition than the reward track.
It took me several hours to find dungeon parties to collect the dungeon currency required for the gift.
If one were to do the collections for the precursors (instead of buying them), it would take longer than the wvw rewards track.
I dunno, it’s just one more long thing for a weapon that is no better than an ascended weapon.
The real issue is the loot on the gift of battle rewards track is pretty lousy relative to other tracks.
Sadly, we can look forward to hundreds if not thousands of threads exactly like this, each time another player discovers their loss and complains about the selective communication used by Anet here.
Of course all those other threads were buried in a massive merge into a WvW forum thread. If you are discovering your loss now, the issue is communication, not forced WvW, and if you make a thread in General Discussion with a communication title, that might get discussed. But, expect constant hijack attempts by players who don’t want to play WvW totally blurring the actual issue..
It’s no different to when it was threads complaining that map completion included WvW.
Except those also included WvW players getting annoyed that PvE players would take up space on a map and not actually contribute much/anything to their server because they were busy with map completion.

It takes about 8 hours of playing in WvW to complete the reward track. I just finished it this weekend and it wasn’t as bad as I was thinking. This is without using any potions or the guild boost.
On another note, do not open the exotic chests that you get from completing the WvW dailies. Anet is planning on making it so that they give two potions instead of just the one like you get from the PvP daily exotic chests.

There is no requirement to play WvW for a Legendary weapon. Ever. Period.
Sell all the components you’ve collected and save the gold to buy the weapon.
Make saving gold for that weapon purchase, your goal, or future goals.
Stop spending gold on other skins or gem shop items.
You won’t even need additional bags or characters this way.
You may think Anet is promoting WvW play but this is the eventual results of their actions taken without proper communications. I know they are trying to fix WvW, but it works entirely against their effort and likely reduces their income, which is simply bad for the game.
Returning the vendor temporarily would prevent this, and stop player interference in WvW.

Who is this that got free badges? I know I earned about 3k badges playing WvW. I did get more later from achievement chests but you can’t ignore the ones actually earned in WvW play and that is what you are doing. I should not have to play 8 or 9 seconds to spend the badges I actually earned playing WvW.

I had more than enough badges for the GoB, but wasn’t going to buy it until I had everything else and was ready to build the legendary. I had already earned the right to the GoB, but they took that away with this extremely poorly communicated change.

Valid questions with easy answers.
I did buy 4 Gift of Battles. About to use the 4th. When you collect legendary components your storage space becomes filled up. There was never any reason to fill more spaces because for about 3.5 years this currency could always be held to spend when another gift was needed. The vendor was removed without including when it would happen in patch notes so while it was supposed to happen at some future date, it was implemented without advanced notice of when.
I also agree that RE-EARNING the gift is simple. Unfortunately, I have lost all trust that the game won’t simply destroy my efforts in WvW repeatedly, without advanced notice, like they just did. WvW is pointless to me now.
They could have sent an in-game mail to people….

The patch notes didn’t give a definite date the vendor would be removed (also, it was buried in the WvW section instead of the legendary crafting section where the people affected would see it). How many times to people have to point that out before it sinks in?
Wasn’t there a study that if you’re given the option of
A: Everyone else in your group gets 10 000€, you get 25 000€
B: Everyone else in your group gets 100 000€, you get 50 000€
the vast majority of people would take option A?
(Former) WvW-player here. Why do people think it’s good to have things gated behind WvW? People playing WvW/PvP for the rewards only do not necessarily align with the “real” WvW/PvP players trying to win (the zerg fight/the matchup/the 1v1) and even sabotage it (repairing a wall which instantly splits our zerg and kills us/clogging the WvW-map/running over people 1v1ing to get participation). I would complain more about that, but on my server we already have been in that situation for a long time. We had an agenda that made every large scale fighting guild (I’m not going to call that GvG. That’s a disgrace to GW1 GvG. And no, I do not hate you when you do this. But you cannot give your mode the name of the king of MMO PvP) leave the server. The desert borderlands made all small scale fighters leave the server, so the majority of the playerbase we have now is senile people jerking off to PPT. Hence the (Former) at the beginning.
If you want to play for rewards without interfering on the success of other people, play PvE (since they fixed open world in that regard). There is no problem in having the majority of skins exclusive to PvE since this is the only game mode where you can farm for your own goals without being a liability to other people (or say, the rewards are fully tied to success, instead of having to learn 3 different classes in PvP which may cause a lot of undeserved losses for the rest of the team, or having to do arbitrary things to keep up participation, but may get the entire zerg killed).
The next thing is once you have built up max participation, you only need to do 1 event/kill every 10 minutes and you get exactly as much as a person actually contributing to WvW. This is the equivalent of getting the exact same amount of PvP reward tracks in (un)ranked as in hotjoin or the participation problems in PvE at HoT release.
The third thing is the Gift of Battle itself. I don’t want to do the reward track. I want to get triumphant armor or hero’s weapons (bummer that we do not get the mistforged ones). And even if I’m done with all this, I want to get my last chak weapon for the Hivemaster. And I do not want to have another timegate in my Legendary acquisition. I’ve done enough of that by having to do the same world event three times during my precursor hunt, by waiting for an extremely rare event to happen (or, in HOPE’s case, to fail), by dumping lots of Spiritwood into the second collection and by waiting for HoT metas.
By the way, why is the GoB still limited to WvW? If we’re here now, make the reward track available to PvP, too. Make players at least choose their devil.
Before you tell me, GoB has always been a WvW item, ask, why it has to stay one? Are there non-arbitrary reasons for it? Is the “of Battle” suffix indicating WvW more than PvP?
I still don’t understand why they want to artificially gate something that has been in the game since launch. If you’re trying to get PvErs to WvW, the tournament system was a better idea ANet.
As a person who never plays WvWvW I never read WvWvW section of the patch notes, why would I?
Because you were sitting on the wvw currency and therefore had an interest in the changes.
1/ Supposedly wvw’d or collected ahievement badges just for the GoB BUT chose not to buy the GoB.
2/ Despite sitting on the currency to buy GoB, chose not to read the wvw patch notes.
At some point you have to stop expecting your own mistakes to be rectified for you, own your bad choice and suck it up.

This needs to be reverted. End of story. Just afetr 2 days I’m already torn about how abysmally hellish torture WvW is and I’m forced to go through it again for my second legendary. (Atleast link more servers to Aurora Glade ’cause right now its just us getting slaughtered over and over again every single match.)
