I could see why it would be considered a good idea to make people explore more aspects of the game overall with the recent edition of this item that is required to make legendary weapons, which is a long time goal of many who play this game. The world vs world aspect of guild wars 2 can seemingly be fun for many as well as rewarding at first glance, but is it?
Before making this post I took the liberty of reading over some of the piror posts and replies by others and sadly I am seeing the same thing i see in game as well as in this forum time after time, in addition to the reason I am posting this myself. I am kicking myself for not having bought this before it was moved to only be obtainable via WvW because of one thing: how unbalanced it is.
I am sure it can be enjoyable for someone who is on one of the higher population servers as there’s about a billion of them in there nearly every hour of the day, versus the tiny handful of those on servers that aren’t exactly teaming with never-ending zergs. I have seen many of these enormus high population server groups infact take longer to take bases then some of the groups on lower end servers with at least 4 times as many people. Even a few of those on more populated servers have posted on this forum that “they got bored and quit because they were mowing down enemies so fast they barely had time to hit a button before the enemy died”.
I came into a wvw map today to work on the reward track for gift of battle myself, one of the few items i have left to make my first legendary, only to find we not only had 0 bases, but were being directly assaulted right in front of where you load into the map….I wish i could say i was surprised.
Every single time I enter WvW at any time, of any day, of any week it does not seem to change, from the time you enter its a constant uphill battle just to re-take your home where you enter, flooding the map with tags and squads, just to be mowed down by not 1, but 2 of the opposition who outnumber everyone you have there 100 to 1.
Apart from the mode itself, even before Gift of Battle being made WvW obtainable only, this doesn’t seem to change, and now thats its only obtainable this way seems like a slap in the face to everyone who goes in there expecting to win at least sometimes, only to remember that for every one of them, there is about 50 of the other guy right around the corner ready to make anything you could possibly do pointless. No matter how many people you get in there to try and take anything you are immidiatly run over by a large number of enemies, that they don’t even have to try, they simply punch the keyboard over and over with their knuckles and they win. I think a lot of them have actuly forgotten what it is to have to try at anything with how easy it is to take an entire map based solely on the fact that they outnumber anyone on the other side 100 to 1 and nothing else.
In all fairness, and literally, to make it even the slightest bit fair to servers without a population of over a billion or so, there should be a limit to how many people from overflowing servers can be on the maps at a single time, or some kind of stat handicap, at least something to make it even the slightest bit fair. As it stands the situation is comparable to a 5 year old attempting to compete in the olympics.
