Gift of battle
I’m afraid you are a bit late to the party, in the wrong sub-forum, and fortunate with your other Legendaries that you never had to set foot in WvW, as previously (before Desert Borderlands), one had to even map all 4 WvW maps.
Now, with the Reward Track, albeit slowly, one can obtain the Gift of Battle by completing the WvW Dailies that require no real participation, such as ‘Big Spender’, and using the enclosed Potions to further the track.
For more information, peruse the thread and Dev responses in the WvW sub-forum.
Good luck, and sorry for the changes that might have been communicated a bit more visibly.
Wait so wvw is a waste of time but doing the same fractals ,killing the same mordrem, and doing the same raidwing isn’t? Lol @pvers

That’s not what the OP said at all. Read his post carefully again and the examine the sentence about ‘wasted time’.
thank you.

Mapping is not having to actually play the maps, simply running from point to point. I have 3 gifts of exploration left so I am well aware of needing to map, however I never had to shoot myself in the foot to force myself to play the drudgery that is wvw. as content.
thank you for the heads up on a previous discussion however, I wasn’t going to trawl the forums for a thread given the search function reports no results for “gift of battle.”
If you have been playing for that long then you would realize that the current method of getting the gift of battle is just as quick, if not quicker, that it was at launch.
Gift of Battle takes a couple of days to a week to acquire with this new system. That’s nothing compared to how long it takes to acquire other materials. I remember when I started on my first legendary weapon. I had to do WvW for the badges as well as the Gift of Exploration back then. At least you don’t need to map WvW anymore.

Nope, given I didn’t rush for a legendary so most of my stuff wa already in place when I went for my first, , Nor do I play wvw at all, hating the place as a vile cess pool.
Takes about 6-8hours to get them, perhaps a bit longer if you just get some participation and slack at a wp. WHere as you have to spent weeks? to get the rest. As a wvw player i find these complaint posts insulting as “we” have to go out of our way for way longer then you.

Believe me I would be quite happy to simply earn my gift in pve and leave people who want to be in wvw alone to their own devices. I don’t see why it is so important everybody likes everything whi;le gw tries so desperately to be everything to all. The time spent is less important than the enjoyment, or is this not a game?

It’s actually at the same time commitment as at launch if not shorter.
If memory serves, and I could be mistaken, didn’t you need like 500 badges of honor to purchase a Gift of Battle in the first place(before the reward track)? Or was it just money?
Anyway, if my memory is correct, you would still have needed to “waste” your time in WvW to get one. Hence the “Gift of Battle”.
And when I did my first Legendary I had to have 100% map completion, including WvW.

as I jhave already said mapping isn’t doinging anything within a map, simply running around, you have 15 minutes to spare you spend 15 minutes running from poi to poi simply mapping. Not trying to build participation.
If memory serves at one point achievement chest were brought in which rewarded badges of honour. As such you simply had to open your chests. and you had a back log if you had enough achievement points.
If I am correct one never had to play WvW
And you still don’t. Fill your reward track by spending all those badges when ‘Big Spender’ comes up. Not only that, but completing ‘Master of Monuments’ is no more difficult than your version of ‘mapping’. Now it’s twice as fast to fulfill your reward track.
No need to sully yourself in the ‘vile cess pool’ [sic].
Good luck.

Didnt you need rank 14 in WvW?

- Start new Legendary
- Do WvW dailies ONLY
- By the time you finish Legendary collections/collecting you’d have GoB done
- It took me .. Just 2-3 weeks, and during that I didn’t do any wvw. Most of the time I was there all I did was Just the dailies…maybe take a camp or two more then I needed.
Was it a hassle? .. NO
Will i do it again… Yes
Did I bump into any other players? .. throughout the whole time.. at best.. 10? 12 tops.
Is it better then the old system? .. YES… If you didn’t have tokens, you’d have to do A LOT MORE to get 500 than you need to do now to complete the reward track.

I knew someone would get overexcited about that, I am allowed to not like it or the people in it. Something where I am spending my time towards an aim in a fruitful and fun way would be nice, but I have added my feedback I simply don’t agree and never have with trying to force participation in terrible content through making it a small but essential part of a larger goal.
If I bought doom I wouldn’t expect to have to play a golf simulator to achieve my gun. I buy a game to play the game itself.

Honestly I have no idea, too long ago and too many important thing have happened.
But I vaguely remember eotM provided that.

I don’t particularly like WvW either. Or pvp in any form. I do however agree that Legendaries should involve activities in all or most areas of the game, including pvp and WvW as well as dungeons/fractals.
If anything, I think things are too lopsided in favour of us pvers – we have much less to do in wvw or pvp compared to the work wvwers and pvpers have to dedicate themselves to in pve.
As someone who has (almost) finished Chupa and Champawat – which requires considerably more mats and activities than some of the other legendaries, all I can advise is that the reward track really doesn’t take too much time or grind. An hour here and there in EOTM + dailies and you’ll be done within a week using boosters.
I think this forum is for feedback so here goes:
Is this how this is to be now? Unattainable unless you want to submit yourself to the waste of time that is WvW? Is there another way I am missing to gain this.?
I have been kicking my heels around gw2 since release and gw1 for 7 years before that. These pathetic attempts to push me into this waste of time for a legendary may well be the last straw. If I wanted to play WvW I would already be doing it. I simply have no interest.
I have been enjoying the collections for building spark, jumped the hoops, wasted time building mats but it was all in a game mode I am happy to play. Now i find it was all a massive waste of time and gold since it offers no variation to the final stage of how a legendary is built.
This is not my first legendary, so far I have built Rodgort, flameseeker prophecies, dreamer, meterologicus, but this reward track is just a step too far for me.,
If I want incineratot I need to grind wvw. as far as I can tell.
I wish there was a reward track for gift of explration, some of us wvw players who dont like pve and never monaed but still did it.

Yep aswell all the pois/vistas in all the wvw maps which has been removed cause of too much pve QQ.
I simply don’t understand the hate towards this track as its like 1-2% of the whole process.

Sorry, but this is not clear.
You have to actually go into WvW and select a reward track first.
Master of Monuments is WvW content so I don’t see how this is helpful at all.
For that matter all the Daily WvW tasks are too.
I assume we simply receive the gift once the reward track is completed but doing the Daily Spender with badges does not appear to advance the track at all or reward any track progress, however it does reward some of the useless crap within that track.
Can anyone say they have actually seen the track complete, and received the Gift, by completing the Daily Spender task?
It might save a lot of time and opposing effort if this can be confirmed.

I think for most it was due to how badly ANet handled communicating the change was coming.
They said when the reward track is out of beta you wouldn’t be able to buy the Gift of Battle from the vendor one time in a patch in a line in the WvW section. Those who play only PvE aren’t likely to carefully read the WvW section.
And they never gave a date or anything for when the reward track was coming out of beta, so even if PvE players had read that the change was coming they wouldn’t have known it was coming on X date and been to make adjustments as needed.
And you still don’t. Fill your reward track by spending all those badges when ‘Big Spender’ comes up. Not only that, but completing ‘Master of Monuments’ is no more difficult than your version of ‘mapping’. Now it’s twice as fast to fulfill your reward track.

The WvW Daily Achievement Chests contain WvW Reward Track Potions that advance the WvW Reward Track of choice.
Just used one of those potions and it did not advance the track or grant any WvW experience.
Then, perhaps your client is bugged, and a -repair is in order. Do make sure to select a Reward Track to progress.
They work fabulously on my Reward Tracks, but, of course, do not grant any WXP (that’s obtainable from a different kind of chest).
I don’t like PvE. Why am I forced to do world completion, crafting disciplines, gather PvE prominent materials and so dungeons for dungeon specific currency so I may make a legendary? OP please, this is not fair, that I have to waste my time playing PvE, which is incredibly boring to me. Please suggest a change that makes it so I don’t have to step foot in the slow paced, tedious, and fun-less PvE and still be able to finish my legendary.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Just used one of those potions and it did not advance the track or grant any WvW experience.
It doesn’t grant WvW experience — it awards progress to the reward track.

- You get one potion for the daily of Big Spender.
- It takes 80 potions to complete a reward track.
- Big Spender appears roughly 3-4x/month.
Thus, “earning” the Gift of Battle solely using Big Spender would take ~20-27 months. I think it’s unrealistic to expect that most people will want to use that method.
(I don’t think that’s surprising: ANet turned the Gift of Battle into a reward-track-only item as a way to reward active gameplay; Big Spender is one of the least active dailies on the current list.)

I agree with you, there should be some PvE alternative to getting the Gift of Battle. I had to grind for 8 hours to finish this component for Nevermore thinking I had already earned the necessary currency through achievement chests. It only slightly took the sting out that I chose to grind Edge of Mists for this and it has a pretty good K train so I could get the last bit of obsidian I needed as I was re-earning the Gift of Battle. What angered me the most about this was when I complained about it I got “It was in the notes”. Yes, it was in the notes, under World v World, not a PvE change. I don’t play World v World so I don’t read their notes. That seemed almost a sneaky way to force PvE players into WvW because WvW is dying and they need to interject new blood. They should just increase the economic incentive to play it instead of forcing people to do it.
I’m afraid you are a bit late to the party, in the wrong sub-forum, and fortunate with your other Legendaries that you never had to set foot in WvW, as previously (before Desert Borderlands), one had to even map all 4 WvW maps.

I have been grinding EoM for dungeon armor rewards and I had to grind it for Gift of Battle. It would take a year to get that reward track done if you only went and bought siege for the one daily chest that gives that reward. I don’t know how you could sit there with a straight face and suggest someone didn’t have to participate in the game and could get that track filled out by doing Big Spender, which isn’t on the Daily list but a couple of times per week.
Just used one of those potions and it did not advance the track or grant any WvW experience.
It 100% does, since it gave me enough reward track points to get a chest when I did it earlier
I had enough to buy two Gifts of Battle from getting achievement chests, true, I like getting achievement chests and work towards them, but it just came with the way I play the game. So in my case you are wrong, and I bet most other players that also want to build legendary weapons like achievement chests as much as I do.

Yep, I finished my pre just after the change.
Being broke and semi curious I looked up what I could do now.
Well, long story short, I got my Gift of Battle, after a roughly a week of casual WvW, ranging from 30min to an hour, whil rarely having max points.
So yeah, it is manageable, but it forces you out of your comfort zone.
I still need to play a bit for the Triumphant Armor pieces

I suggested other WvW Dailies that involve no more participation than mapping did previously, as well. I also stated it would be a slow way to complete the Reward Tracks. The OP seems dead set against any sort of interaction with other players in WvW, so the suggestions are his/her only other choice. /shrug

Hi, I am a WvW player, i only play this game to wvw with my guildies. I’ve also made sunrise, twilight, eternity, rodgort, the flameseeker prophecies, incinerator, bifrost, kudzu, and i’m in the process of making the predator/the new raven staff.
Thats 8 legendaries made, and 2 more in the works, As a person who only plays gw2 for wvw, having to go out of my way and set foot into pve which in my opinion, and to quote you OP “waste of time that is PVE” I changed your quote a little bit there. It has been hard, forcing myself to do maps, to grind mats, to grind karma, to grind masteries to grind dungeon tokens, it has taken me FAR FAR longer than a measly eight hours, and i have not complained about it, insulted or belittled a game mode because i do not like it, I simply put my head down, and do it, you know why op? because that is what is required for me to get what i want. I may not enjoy it, but i’ll do it because i know that the end result for me is worth it.
I just don’t understand, you have it easy, 8hours is nothing compared to the things all of us wvw focused players have to go through. But you feel so entitled, you insult us, what we play, and anet with your comments, it is honestly disgusting. Don’t bother replying to my post, i don’t want to shine a light on your vile attitude any longer than is strictly necessary.
Either do the wvw or don’t. It’s that simple.

I wouldn’t dare respond to that post. Never mind I am trying to communicate how little I like wvwe, I am an adult, If I wanted to wvw I would be doing it. I don’t need some flimsy carrot to make it all worthwhile and something I want to throw my hat into,
This is not a job, there is no real gain to doing it, as someone who bought the game , yes, a game, I have my fair shot at saying what I don’t like. or is this forum to pad ego and stroke heads for a job well done?
You can hate it all you want. WvW is a requirement for a legendary. Anet has just solidified that with the reward track.
They have even responded saying the change will not be reverted.
I’m not sure what you think this post will actually achieve outside of venting some anger at a game you don’t even have to play.
As per the user agreement which you agreed to to play the game; ArenaNet may modify, remove, or add Content in its reasonable discretion. They notified the change in a relevant sub heading. The change was implemented in the second scheduled biggest patch of the year, which for some would have been obvious. It’s not their fault you didn’t read it.

I stated that in the first line, this is supposedly a forum a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. I don’t expect to achieve anything other than making my opinion heard .
Mostly it expresses sadness at the situation. as i don’t personally agree with the concept.

As you said:
Mapping is not having to actually play the maps, simply running from point to point.
You can get the Gift of Battle by running from point to point. Even by standing in place. Throw in fighting PVE style NPC’s and you can get it faster.
If mapping the WvW maps was not a problem for you before, then the current iteration of the process should be a piece of cake.
