Good profession for running with zergs?
What’s the opposite of a ranger?
That one.
Menorah | Charr Cat | Some Cat Thing
Still running my old RRR build because why not
Not a thief.
If you want to do more than drop a healing field, not a ranger.
Anything else you can’t go wrong really.
arrow cart is the best profession
No way, rangers are great. And fun too.
But if you’re getting slaughtered with a guardian I’m not sure what’s going to help, they’re one of the toughest. A ranged profession could help.
But here’s your problem, no profession is going to help with this :
“Usually I go Braveheart and start running at them and then I realize no one else was actually coming with me”
Thief because even when the zerg gets slaughtered you can still usually get away.
You could try guardian.
Necro is good, a lot of AoE damage and good survivability with death shroud.
Nothing better than a guardian. If you just want to zerg it really is the best profession. Just get the toughest gear you can find and spam staff 1. You can’t go wrong with that. I wouldn’t want you in my zerg but you’ll get a lot of loot.

Your playing it wrong.
From my experience, several professions can do the trick :
- Easiest is probably guardian : armor, lots of stuff to keep you alive, great condition removal, easy access to stability, great tagging and ok damage with GS. Only con is mobility unless you spec for it (#2 Sword, #3 GS, JI …)
- Grenade engineer is also very good : the insane 1500 range makes you tag and melt your ennemies without even going into danger. Great survivability with this one too with shield and toolkit for instance, good condition removal, perma swiftness with the right trait … Only downside is no reliable stability
- Staff Ele : great mobility ,great survival through cantrips, insane CC, good damage. No real con unless maybe slowness of staff attacks.
- Ranger. Yes, you read it right. Contrary to what bad people say, ranger can be a good option in zergs. Use Axe/Axe to damage/tag may ennemies at once (#1 and #2), #4 is great damage and good range if you trait for improved OH. #5 is very good to use as reflect among your allies.
Add to that 2 traps with the ability to throw them and you can be quite effective
- From what I’ve heard/seen, but not from my experience, Staff Necro : spam marks everywhere and enjoy. Others would probably gove you better advice than me
Mitigation necro > all mitigation necro best build
Guardians, Necros, Warriors. Sounds like you need to stick with your team though.
Guardians are the best zerging class, if you’re dying all the time on yours then its more likely your playstyle, your build or your team thats letting you down – not your class.
But still you could try necro or memser.
Gunnar’s Hold
Necro. You’re a zerg busting monster if traited right with epidemic, you can spread your “love” quite well.
Caveat: if caught solo, or without a safe haven nearby be advised you will be used as a black pinball. Having no form of escape mechanism allows thieves (and many other classes) to laugh at your sorry dead kitten.

LOL this is so true, and the pinball analogy is spot on. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been punted and pulled around the field while trying to get away.

Arrow Cart profession is probably your best choice.

Portable one would be, hands down. Stationary is not quite there yet, but I’m sure it will be fixed in a patch or two.
Warrior and guardian when built tanky will do well in a zerg.
Elementalists are wanted for fields. Need to tank it up and you’ll mostly be doing fields for blast finishers.
Necros are also desired, they have several things that can be nasty. They can also tank it up fairly well.
I’ve seen some tough engineers but I see them roam more. Even though they were roamers, they were tough little buggers to kill.
Rangers have that root that can be a pita when you have everything else dumped on you and so much stuff going on, it can be difficult to see the roots binding your feet. The roamers have been tough to kill.
Thieves are not very good in a zerg. They are good for 1v1 but they don’t tank up very well, they can but I couldn’t find a gear set up that would survive long enough. They also don’t have very many group synergy traits.
You would do best to no try and suicide. Suicide charge doesn’t work.
Necros seem underrated here two of the biggest things they bring are blind and weakness no other class can do that like them blast finishers in poison fields for weakness and in dark fields for blind then chill on application of blind which increases skill cds
Stick with Guardian but change your spec. Get Cleric Gear and put 30 points in Valor and Honor.
You will magically stop getting killed.
I would suggest trying to follow the commander instead of going braveheart and running off on your own. You said your server only gets things done with a zerg, so stick with that zerg =] If possible, join your servers teamspeak.
If you stick with the group, anything with aoe and built to survive will be ok.
-edit-
just realized that while this is basics for many, it might not be for you if you’re new. Often a commander will have a zerg group up first, buff, and then run as a group into the other zerg. Typing out to stack, buff might, use blast finishers every stop would take too much time, so that kinda stuff is usually said on voicechat. If you’re unable to listen to the voicechat, just stick to the guy with the icon.
