Gable Thorn – Elementalist
Shining in Darkness – Warrior – Mag
Grenade Kit skill: Grenades no longer require the player to have line of sight of the target area to throw them.
Anyone have a chance to test this yet? Particularly are we able to hit the back part of walls with grenades? If so the siege placement meta is probably going to have to change and engineers have suddenly become a lot more useful in WvW siege situations.
I was going to test it on my engineer but then I thought of how Wexp is character based, so someone else will have to waste Wexp on an alt to test it….
I’m interested in this. It looks like one of the biggest class changes. I have a level 30 engineer in storage who might get to see the light of day again.
All about positioning, just like arrow carts I think.
I haven’t had a chance to test this yet. I believe the biggest change will be that engineers should be able to throw over the lip/wall of keeps and towers when defending. I don’t think it will change siege placement. I mean, what zerg has an engineer in it?
Seriously though, I don’t think this changes the way grenades are thrown onto walls.

Ditto.

That will change if Engy’s can hit the back part of walls. Commanders will ask folks to play their engineers solely for this.
So, Engie will be more useful in zerg after this patch ^^

Maybe… We will need to see some testing to see if this is really going to have an effect. If not we are back to where we were…
Engineer commanders FTW!!! People dont hate us anymore!!!!!!
Guys, this has yet to be tested. I have serious doubts that engineers will be able to hit parts of a wall that other professions cannot. As I said, I think this was mostly so that engineers would be able to successfully throw grenades DOWN from walls without getting the “LoS” message.
As long as the actual projectile doesn’t hit the wall we should be able to get at least a little further back then it was previously. I can’t really see this allowing us to hit the back of a wall though, unless the grenades get some extra special arc treatment. I don’t think this will be a huge fundamental change and is instead mostly quality of life when dealing with LoS issues.
Engi healer gonna be viable with the elixir gun in zerg?
I am very curious to hear if you can lob through the gates that have the spacing above them that allow you to see the enemy and their siege behind.
I tested it before WvW went down. You can throw grenades off of a wall without having to stand on the very edge. But unless you’re right up against the lip, the grenades just hit the lip or the ledge. Enemies can still see and target you. Throwing it up a wall from the ground works just as it did before.
What changed? You get a green circle as long as the landing zone is in range. Whether the grenades make it to that landing zone is a matter of lobbing arc, i.e. will the lobbed grenades hit an obstacle. In other words, very little change, certainly not game-breaking, just quality of life like Ayestes said.

So engineers can do AoE damage to attacking zergs/siege without having to stick their head out? I might need to dust off my Engi.

Not exactly. You can still be hit by AoE. You can’t be pulled off the wall or hit by single-target projectiles since you don’t have to be ON the ledge, just right up next to it. So it’s better and works like any other profession’s ground-targeted AoE abilities, but you don’t have free reign to lob away like thief shortbow.

Super elixir was actually unchanged, those notes were a misprint left over from a previous patch. Due to the kit refinement nerf, elixir gun healing was actually cut in half, so no, not viable. Elixir gun is still a decent weapon and healing bombs could be all right especially since bomb kit refinement got a buff.
If you’re on defense you’re better off using an arrowcart, but I suppose if there are only few arrowcarts or none at all, then it’s better than nothing.
