Guard Leech and Applied Fortitude
weapon stacks have always gone away on downed state so I am surprised that hasn’t always been the case with these as well.
It is a better mechanic to go away on downed, imo, so I hope it stays this way.
Hopefully they fix it by getting rid of it.
As long as I have had it they have vanished on down just like bloodlust stacks. The description is likely wrong but it is probably working as intended. Still the best WxP spent bang for buck.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
you loose stacks on down.
Working as intended.
Why are you even getting downed as a Staff Ele, and what are you even doing that you can’t kill 5 Guards within 5 minutes. (Or 1 minute of there are enough guards)
I disagree. In my mind, losing the buffs when simply downed, and not killed, is what balances them. Yes they cost a lot of rank points, but they’re also very powerful. If it were easier to keep the buffs I might agree with those that feel they are OP. As such, I think the way they work now is fine.

OP,
It’s always been on downed for me, and I got both of them immediately after they were implemented into WvW. (I had been saving up my WXP points waiting for something good like these bonuses.) And the tool tip, like ohhh so many tool tips, has always been wrong.
It amazes me that such a small thing as tool tips can continue being incorrect for months or even a year plus in some cases. It’s sad and pathetic.
It’s not a bug. It’s working as intended.
I always found a bit annoying how you’ll lose those stacks (both sigil and similar effects) when downed instead defeated, when downing someone is so easy.
I’ve stood under heavy siege as an elementalist many times, but lag hits happen, and downed is a great cushion against those. It gives you a chance to get up after a lag hit that doesn’t let you see that hit that downs you and you could have avoided with a simple Burning Retreat.
I avoid stack sigils in higher end content because of this. You could be the best player ever, but when the neighbor turns on that EMP generator of a TV they have, and the rooter goes bonkers, and you can’t put the router anywhere else, there’s nothing you can do and you wish this mechanic wasn’t so harsh.
I won’t mind if instead losing all stacks on downed, you lost half the stacks (rounded up) when downed, or a fixed amount (e.g. 10 stacks), instead all of them, and losing them all just when defeated.
Then I may consider them again in places like fractals 31-50, and WvW.
Cant believe someone is complaining about this… lol

This exactly. Wasn’t sure if someone was trolling or this was a legitimate post.
Just gotta learn how to WvW and not die so much. It takes one camp flip to get all the stacks and if you’re with a talented group you can survive for hours.
It seems I must have been imagining things when I got this Buff.
I guess I don’t understand English when I read what is says in the description and tool tips.
It really Peeves me off when you spend months collecting World Ability Points and find that it has been a waist of time, could have allocated the World Ability Points to something more useful.
As usual it seem I’m wrong again.
Also I would reply to some peoples answers but I don’t want any more demerits
Do anyone from ArenaNet read these post so that we get an answer and maybe update the wiki. I do look there before asking what seems to be silly questions.
(I am being sarcastic now for those that don’t realize)

It’s not you.
It’s one of the downsides of how ANet does things.
Inconsistencies.
The official terms are “downed” when losing all health, and “defeated” after losing all downed health, but some skills and effects refer to either downed or defeated “death” inconsistently.
It’s like when you go to fractal and get a piece of Cavalier Cabalist Armor or Magi Cavalist Armor, and it’s called “Light Armageddon armor” instead, or when you go to PvP and the names of the skins do not match the PvE names.
Or when you get an item from personal story and its name doesn’t match the official name, like the masterwork Winged Spatha of Air that is incorrectly named Light sword and doesn’t even have an icon that matches the item.
I really don’t like all those inconsistencies.
I was actually quite surprised when looking at it and it said “death”. But it makes sense that they drop when downed, just like all other stacks do.
In regards to them being useless because of that, I use a superior sigil of corruption. Until I switched to a sturdier build I was considering getting rid of it as well, for the same reason as you, I could never stay alive long enough build many stacks. Now that I run a condition damage/vitality/toughness build I don’t die very often at all. I know it’s tough as an elementalist, much more so than a mesmer, and feel where you’re coming from (I have a guildy who runs a glass cannon ele and I credit him for a large chunk of my combat healer title). It may be time to reconsider your build a bit if you can’t keep stacks up to the point where you feel that what is arguably the best WXP point investment useless. I would guess that if you have the ranks to get those stacks you know what you’re doing from the time you’ve spent in WvW, and thus your build is lacking the survivability your play style needs.

Yes, you do lose them on downed. They’re still really, really strong though.
Hopefully they fix it by getting rid of it.

It’s the only way to be sure.

I am an ele/staff I go to the front of a zerg to aid in a push, my main skill to force them back is meteor shower which takes about 4 second to cast. I rely on misting back for res, as staying alive for more 4 seconds at the front is not going to happen.
So the buff is gone on the first push.
So I suppose if I want to keep the buff I stay at the back with the rest of the cowards and run when the push fails.
(I cant send in clones instead of me and hide)
Yey. At last they fixed it
