While many took advantage of the increased rewards of the old Edge of the Mist System to jump ahead in rank (often going for ultimate dominator), many of us stood back and refused to play in it because we weren’t a fan of k-trains and higher ranks get focused more in engagements. However now it matters, so here are some tips on how to Level up quickly to get those extra Pips.

1) Boosters are your friends. You have the guild hall booster (WXP), Celebration/birthday boosters, and XP boosters.

2) Kill Guards EVERYWHERE. Towers and keeps have tons of guards patrolling or at the gates, quickly kill them as you pass even if the objective means nothing to you, its quick to do and its free wxp. If you have ranged, aoe the guards on the walls if you arent a wet noodle spec.

3) Cap Shrines and Sentries. If you are on Red BL, the shrines also can drop lode stones and capping them (or clicking the alter when you own them) gives you an awesome speed buff.

4) Repair objectives that are contested even if you are just passing through, supply spent will give you credit for the defense of the objective, and it will also give you wxp for the repair itself. You dont need to stand there fixing the wall completely, spend your supply and move on. Of course if you want, repair it completely, even if people are yelling at you to not waste supply, since its WXP you are after, not their approval.
****Note: If its being trebbed, use supply from somewhere else to get credit, and don’t cut off a forces path of retreat if they are fighting near an open wall

5) Use Food and Utility Consumables. There are a ton of cheap food and utilities, the extra stats will help you kill guards faster, and if you dont need help with that, magic find always is a nice plus.

6) Kill people. People who arent being killed over and over again by yourself (or your group) will grant a lot of wxp, this is one of the primary reasons why playing in smaller groups and having a more well rounded wvw experience grants you more rank up chests then zergs clashing into eachother over and over again. if you are not comfortable in wvw on your own, tag along with other people, but do them a favour and at least run a build more suited for wvw. http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki has a bunch of builds for each class. Some people may say the builds are outdated, but the builds are a lot better than many of the PvE builds for this game mode. Most guilds who go for Kills generally stick with variants of the Meta builds, but you will find much of those listed as Great on the site work fine for what you want to achieve.

Condition cleanse, Stun-breaks, Resistance and stability will go a long way in helping you stay alive, so all DPS utilities may not be in your best interest ;)

Using server comms like TS/Discord/Mumble/Ventrillo/etc will help you stay alive, most don’t need you to talk, just listen. There are rude people everywhere and just like in game, you can mute/block/ignore people who you cant stand.

Keeping these points in mind, whether your in a zerg, roaming or in a small havoc group, you will help maximise your wxp gain. Even if.you are a high rank you still get decent drops in the rank up chests. This week alone I’m at 3 ascended rings and 3 weapons chests, majority of them from rank ups.

5) *Does the xp gain from consumables affect wxp? couldnt find info on it**

Nope. That was only for PvE XP. That’s why the WvW “canned” food doesn’t have it.

Stop giving grief tips. This is kitten and only animating people for pull out the mats from objectives which are under attack. The WXP outcome isn’t also worth for it. Im really sick of people which are that stupid and pull out all mats and destroy all the work from peoples who spend their time for securing dollys/supplies

It gives you defense credit for spending any supply. You don’t need to put 10. Sometimes you will actually get supply back (eg, you only have 1 supply and get back a few )

Obviously don’t do it for walls that are being trebbed. That probably wasn’t the intention of the post. Probably add a note. Although I’d like to point out someone just flipping camps is going to have plenty of supply on hand not from said objective.

There are some instances when repairing a wall for the xp is ok(if there are multiple walls down, or if noone is around in an active battle for the area)……but yea, one should normally leave the walls alone if there is a huge battle going on and map chat is saying not to repair things.

Food doesn’t help with WXP directly, but does help you kill players which do award wxp.

Also if there is limited supply in the area being contested, as that is usually desperately needed for any defense siege that might be needed. (arrow carts come to mind)

Thats the only “right” way. I don’t care when peoples take it from camps. But i do when they taking them out from towers/keeps ect.

I added a note to that section for those people up in arms for a little humour…. As for people yelling to not repair when those two scenarios are not happening (being trebbed or active fight), It is not your prerogative no matter how many yaks you escort, the supply isn’t yours.

Furthermore keeping walls open for the farm is great for us after bags, but it really isn’t our right to demand they obey us because that’s how we want it, just as its not their right to yell at us to leave the supply for their siege, or for their PPT offensive. The supply is there for anyone to use as they wish, especially since you dont need the supply for upgrades anymore.

Also a note, you can do much of these things while you follow a ktrain zerg, it isn’t a roaming guide, its just some key points to remember when you play so you get more rewards for doing virtually the same thing

You forgot the most important part: be a part of the higher tier/populated servers.

that isn’t true at all. The highest rate of intake is when you are in a Havoc group on the Red BL. Many servers (except mag) back cap it pretty efficiently so you have big and small objectives to constantly hit and the enemies avoid you so much that every time you do find them and kill them, they are worth a lot of WXP. By havoc i mean a 15-20 people, any larger and you scare the enemies off the map.

So please don’t be spreading false information about needing to be in the higher tier, if anything it lowers the rate of gain due to less objectives and less guards available to kill.

Agree with most, but I would bet that blob-zerging gives better xp than small groups. From what I’ve seen, most NA hours are full map queues blobbing around, and no small group or roamer would be able to engage them.

Regarding #1, do Guild Banners contribute toward WXP/rank gain? From the wiki entry for WXP modifiers, Guild Banners are not included, but that info could be incomplete. If it doesn’t, then I recommend removing the banner boost from this list.

“Guide: Maximizing WXP Gain for Rankups?” – This is a joke name, right?

This is:
“Noob guide: increasing your world ability points”

This doesn’t even have enough information for most noobs…i’d show them the wiki page instead as it has much more information and actual numbers. If I needed to ease some1 into the mode who just wanted to fool around, I’d show them this to give them some general ideas on how to go about playing.

So… Goodjob creating a casual’s guide that offers some insight as they start the mode. If you want more insight consult the wiki or a real guide. Waste of time for everyone else though, including me who read this thinking it would explain a real wxp farm route…..nope.

I removed the banner point just in case, if it does give wxp then I’ll revert the change. Also added the note at the end about being able to do this in a zerg too.

While I do agree that at the current moment zerging is likely best for wxp, things will settle down and the blobs won’t be on every map.

I am deeply sorry I did not provide you with an indepth guide on how to satisfy a grumpy forum troll looking for a taco add-on on where exactly to stand to gain x wxp.

Most of the people posting lately are either dissatisfied people with exceptionally high ranks who blew through the pips or are complete wvw casuals/new players not knowing what to do. This guide is for the latter. While some of the information is on the wiki, it’s still spread out and not easy to read for people, this is why I made the guide.

Great post!

@JordanPaul, it totally depends on what you are doing. If you are in a powerful and efficient group capping Keeps and Towers and wiping every group you encounter along the way, you could do it in a day or two as it’s only 120 ranks.

“The first 4 ranks (up to rank 5) only require 1,000 WXP; after that, each rank requires 5,000 WXP.”

So 5000 wxp is definitely doable in 30 minutes, so 1 hour seems more reasonable for the average player in an average group with average server participation.
