Guild Buying and Ethics - HELP!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/ES-Suggestion-The-Deadeye-FORMAL/
Move if you feel it’s in the best interests of your guild and your players. Guilds move between servers all the time for their own reasons. I can guarantee that most of your opponents do not care who they’re up against, at any rate.
You should move. Some servers have such a low population that anet should merge then. My server for example, Ehmry Bay, is always last in the wvw matches and should be merged with the other 2 lowest wvw ranked servers, i should have used that free transfer anet offered before wvw season 2 and moved to Northern Shiverpeaks or another middle ranked server.

Henge of Denravi had that hype train and people on that server we’re sayin “oh yeah we’re goin to t2.” Soon as wvw season 2 ended that server has crashed and burned and is just a joke. If you plan to stay on that server go for it but transfering servers just for wvw seasons is just a joke.
I don’t think Casmurro is talking about xferring temporarily he just wants to be on a server with enough activity to satisfy his play style.
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.
Honestly, it really doesn’t matter. There’s no shame for moving for the sake of your guild and many, MANY guilds do that.

All I can say is, your guild made the worst decision ever.
You just tranferred to a server that has no real organization whatsoever. No inter-guild coordination. No teamspeak usage. No pugmanders. Most of the WvW population are fairweathers.
Did your leaders even bother to scout the server first? Or did they just see the money and say “yes” immediately?
If I were you, I’d ditch the guild and use your own money to join a real server.
Wherever you go will likely by happy to have you. But your old server won’t be super psyched about it.
At the end of the day it’s a game, you gotta do what you perceive as fun.
It all varies I suppose. If your guild based their transfer off of purely gold, then yeah it is something to be ashamed of. If you moved for the sake of having fun and letting your guild grow, then its fine.
Thing to keep in mind though is that it may bother you personally only. Nobody else will care and see it as competition. And of course there’ll be some who see you as sell outs regardless.
A lot of server help some guilds move by helping with transfer costs, so I dont see a problem with it, especially if you are in a low WvW pop server.
…My server for example, Ehmry Bay, is always last in the wvw matches…
wtf you’re talking about? Ehmry Bay won last week…

DeceiverX, the only opinion you should care about is the one the guy looking at you in the mirror gives you in the morning.
Do what you can live with.
It’s obvious you’re concerned, hence asking. You’re going to get a wide range of responses here from “sure, it’s fine, everybody does it” to “scum of the earth, destroyer of worlds”. Sounds like you are standing somewhere in the middle, looking for a place you can enjoy and wanting to support your guild while still being honorable.
The fact that you’re asking is part of your answer.
Good luck.
Couple of things to consider.
First of all do your homework. By that I mean send somebody to scout the server you are thinking about moving too. They can see firsthand what the WvW population is when your guild typically plays. Make sure the server meets your guilds needs before you make the move.
The other issue you might run into is that since you are moving up several tiers, there is a good chance that the server you will move to already has established guilds and there are very few recruits to choose from. Your guild could become poached by the existing guilds.
1st the issue is that Anet will not merge the servers anytime soon. It will not be good for their PR.
2nd, The place to get 24/7 action is T1 and maybe T2. This is not good but this has forced many guilds to move.
3rd, Some guilds/servers pay a certain amount with the rest being contributed by the transferring guild. While some purchase entire guilds. This is not uncommon. Is it ethical? Prob. no ….but not everyone can afford transfers.
So imo , i think its not really a big deal as long as you are happy to the server you moving to. Remember, have fun It is a video game after all.
If you’re a wvw guild it only makes sense to move to a more active wvw oriented server. If someone is offering to pay for the transfer then let them pay for those who don’t have the IRL $$ or in game gold for the gems.
Guild transfer costs are high and many servers are “buying” guilds to keep their WvW population active. There is nothing wrong with it and if anything shows how committed that server is to WvW play.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”

Salty?
Thanks for the feedback, folks. I’ve seen a lot of hate towards transferring guilds in the past, and our current/previous server is not at all happy with the move, so it’s slightly reassuring to see it presented more positively.

I appreciate feedback from all perspectives, but there’s no substance to your post. I didn’t present any kind of info on where we are from/transferring to, and you’re simply posting toxic and rather base assumptions on and about my guild and its members as well as our destination server.
And no, it has nothing to do with the money. We’ve been given multiple offers to various servers and tiers. We picked what is likely the best match for us at this point in time.

Nothing wrong in helping guilds transfer to a proper tier. I hope for you that you’re transfering to T2. If you’re not I feel bad for you. But if you are, go nuts.
I’m not sure I understand. Your guild was made this offer and some members already left before there was consensus on the offer? That sounds like the end of your guild if that’s the case. Or your guild decided to accept the offer?
I personally have been involved in partially funding transfers from the other side of the table. We didn’t want players to feel beholden by requiring “repayment” through “helping out” in WvW, especially if they ended up not having fun or our community was not the right fit for them. Your game time is your time.

If you are not enjoying the server you are on, then you should move.

You’re correct in that some moved before the offer has been fulfilled. These players, however, are mostly all high ranks in the guild and have been funded on our end to properly scout the new server to affirm that this is a good choice rather than having the guild move and then being stuck on a server we may not like. Anyone else who has transferred has paid the gem price on their own due to an inherent demand for better fights in the meantime regardless of the outcome and have no issues with transferring again. They’re sampling the community and tactics employed so that nobody wastes money and we don’t end up worse/more upset than before. I appreciate your concern with the fragmentation, thing, though, but I don’t think we need to be worried about that.

A move up is a change to a whole new class of wvw. 24/7 fights, presence on every map, used teamspeak servers and more. Anyone who plays wvw deserves to experience it in kitten.
Getting help is understood due to the transfer costs. Blame the playerbase for that, which would rather have server loyalty than good fights.
Cool. I didn’t understand from your first post. You could always pay your own way.

There is only one guild that has recently left a low tier server and transferred up 5-6 tiers like you said. It’s fairly easy to put the pieces together.

At this stage in the game, I don’t believe it matters anymore. A lot of people have quit the game or moved to different servers anyway. I’d be more questioning why a guild is paying for your transfer to be there when realistically, there is an excellent chance that there are large portions of the day when they have no one to fight.
If anything, they should be paying you to go to the opposing server.
All the gvg guilds are moving to na t2 currently, so if you’re not going to na t2 you should feel bad for missing out.
