Guild catapults and roaming
Since guild catapults is hidden behind the guild hall and 300 scribing this is completely pointless, Anet has already forced most small roaming guilds that would need a 20 supply to leave the game already and the rest usually have 2 or more people to build at least one normal cata.

Yes exactly and I think that was a major killer for the game mode.
Absolutely agree, it was a terrible change. I don’t even use guild cata’s anymore, I just go with sup catas but I tend to use them a hell of a lot less because it’s extremely tedious to make several trips to build. This leads to me logging off a lot quicker instead of capping something and drawing out fights.
I think one of the reason roaming isn’t as kitten as it used to be is because of how much supply it takes to build guild catapults. First of all you have to spend guild commendations and gold to buy guild catapults and I think it takes 40 supplies to build one when back in the days it was just 20. My point is the low supply cost to build guild catapult was major part of roaming. One person alone was able to get one catapult up and flip a tower or do some havoc by damaging and preparing the keep walls for the main zerg. I don’t see that happening much anymore. In my opinion if guild catapults take 20 or 25 supplies to build that would just make roaming more fun and also havocing. That’s one reason a lot of people quit WvW I believe.
Then there would be more ways for people to influence the supply chains. How ridiculous would it be to have a zerg at your doorstep with infinite supply on them? It’s a blob that can’t be killed AND it can’t be frustrated or detoured…..
I’m not against what you are proposing but major changes would be needed to make it work..maybe it would be welcome changes though. I would have liked siege to be something you gain only from playing wvsw and accomplishing goals in the gamemode. When it is cash based everyone has infinite number of siege weapons and the destruction of one has no bearing on the attacker outside of the supplies they have onhand.

While it obviously makes putting up a solo cata more of a chore, the change was sorely needed. The impact on roaming was 1 more supply run. The impact on zergs was cutting the amount of placed siege almost in half.
Why do you need catas while roaming? Makes no sense. Leave pvd to havoc or blobs.

Havoc was part of roaming???

But here’s a thing about guild catapults even tho you were able to build them with low supply costs they were still easy to destroy like one cannon or mortar shot and I think that was pretty balanced.

If he is trying to help his server, it makes no difference if he is trying it solo, or has 80 people with him.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

this is an interesting topic too imo, because I believe the current game mechanics favor big guilds ( mainly why I refer to it as an elitist non casual friendly system ) ….roamers and small guilds are heavily disadvantaged by not having the advanced tools available to larger guilds, that can acquire such items quickly.

I have nothing against havoc. Have solo or duo flipped plenty of keeps/towers.
But when roamers roam, they are looking for other roamers to fight. Not flip towers for ppt.
Or at least it used to be like that. Maybe its different in T1.

Well even in lower tiers that was the reason roamers would roam for but then again sometimes hitting a keep or tower can pull fights

Generally yes, but what I meant was many will try to help when possible, with things like capturing towers, flipping camps, sniping dolyaks etc. They may not necessarily be concerned about ppt but want to help their server.
There is also a practical side to this, if your map is getting flipped, without anything being taken back, it makes it more important for your zerg to float back (assuming there is one). Encountering a zerg and seeing an increased rate of structures being flipped might discourage enemy roamers from staying on the map.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Because you can do alot with just 2 – 5 people. You don’t have to mindlessly run around just looking for a few people to gank, trying to draw out some when you siege a tower has given me the best fights usually and you’re still helping out the main blob aswell.

Exactly that just happens anymore and that’s the fun a lot of roamers / havoc squads have been missing

this is what i call “the real roaming”. aka bothering here and there flipping things – moving fast – etc etc etc etc (and make the other servers mad trying to find you out XD)
