Hi everyone,
currently in WvW there is much zerg activity farming in rotating schemes. Some zergs dont even conquer castles, towers or keeps, going only for supply camps, caravans and sentries, in a fast karma and xp farming system. I think that WvW purpose should be more about guilds and defending guild objectives. It would be much more interesting and funny if the game system could promote these guild activities.
Claiming a WvW objective now is only a matter of being able to purchase more upgrades (spending money almost for nothing since nobody defends) and applying guild influence based buffs, but besides showing the guild banner on the walls, that most people dont recognize, there is no profit for a guild in defending or claiming. But this is GUILD wars!
This makes people and guilds not wanting to invest money in upgrades and not even in defending a claimed objective. I even see commanders opting not to defend an objective, just to be able to conquer it after to farm faster.
So I purpose 2 things:
1- While showing map (M), display guild name or guild [tag] on claimed objectives on mouse hoover;
2- Reward a guild with a little ammount of influence for each successful defense of a claimed objective, as long as there are guild members defending the objective.
Consequences:
With 1, guild members would have an extra pride on their guild in maintaining an objective, showing all the world who they are and what they acomplished. With 2, guilds would consider defending as an extra source of influence. Both solutions would increase WvW fun and would improve greatly the role of guilds, making everything more interesting.
Zerg farming sheemes would also exist for those who want and like to do it. But it wouldnt be the only thing to do in WvW, that has so many wasted potential. People would not enter WvW and ask again: “Where is the zerg?”…
Other consequences:
To be fair, maybe it would be a good idea to award guild influence after a successfull conquer. hen a guild claims an objective. In this case, the claiming system should be also improved as many guilds would be more eager to claim an objective. It couldn’t be only a matter of who clicks first claiming the objective. There should be a time window of about 30s or so where guilds could apply to claim the objective. The claiming guild with best participation or performance in the conquest should get the claiming.
