HOW TO : Fix population imbalance in 1 week
PlayerStats = BasePlayersStats * max(0.5 , (1 – NumberOfPlayersOnMap / 200))
The would force the side with higher numbers to form one big blob.
the fastest way to fix pop imbalances is to stack the top servers
once everybody that gives a crap about WvW (less and less as days go by) has moved to the top servers, ANet will notice a sudden and huge decrease in their money milking…when everybody has transferred, noone needs to transfer aymore
then, they will come up with a genius system to actually punish stacked servers and zerging tactics, because by doing so, they will forster people transferring again, this time out of the stacked servers
ANet has showed that they only react when their profits are at risk.
stack the top servers and they will be forced to react sooner or later
Konrad… thats not a solution… that is sitting back and accepting the pounding Anet is giving us.
I quit for months… I am about to again.
Stat increase = gear grind.
Gear grind = no money from me ever again.
He’s right though, if people just abandoned the last 9 or 12 servers, the population of the top 12 would be much more evenly distributed.

I agree, but there is a level of respect to be had for those that latch on to their community. Server merges would be a step in the right direction in my opinion. It would at least show that ANet is making attempts to better their game.

Maybe this is what anet wants to happen.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

Queues of course would skyrocket and WvW would become unplayable for most … which I suspect ANet would be happy to accept since they pretty clearly treat WvW like a bad decision they regret. Resources and focus tell that story.

I’m still waiting for the first piece of meaningful content in any facet of the game. When I say that, I mean one which has a profound effect on the world of Tyria and also one that has interesting gameplay mechanics. Essentially, not the Living Joke.

Well unless each server has a map queue (or unrealistically, one person less than the queue limit at any given time), the map populations are not balanced. So pick one: queues or population imbalances
Edit: if there aren’t enough people to queue the maps, then people will just pvdoor whichever map has the least enemies, which is what happens now. So for the best balance, every server would have to have a queue on all maps at all times to ensure that no one server had more people than the other. That is not a situation most WvW players would enjoy.

I think the original poster is on the right track. The devs need to take the size of forces into account when calculating rewards, at the very least…and make defending much more fun and rewarding than it is now. There has to be a way for a smaller force to counter a larger one…other variables need to come into play so that sheer numbers aren’t the only way to win.
Another idea is to go back to their roots in GW1… why not add NPC fighters / defenders to the lower-participation teams to bring them up to the same number as the highest-participating team? The number of NPCs could change dynamically so that all three sides had the same number of “bodies” on the map. Make those NPCs at least reasonably capable of doing their tasks against players. Allow players to direct the NPCs to defend or join their group. Then any size server might have a fighting chance.
As long as sheer numbers is all that matters (due to the game design), players are going to continue transferring to find the easy wins, rather than sitting and getting crushed with no hope or way out.

No. You do not want to adjust player stats. Now do the same formula based on points awarded and I am completely in agreement.
You don’t need to do anything to player stats or map populations to get players to move from stacked servers. It’s already here. Use Glicko rating change to determine winners of the league instead of points/wins and the top servers will finish way behind the lower servers.
As the bandwagon players of the stacked servers realize they aren’t on the top of the new leaderboard anymore, they’ll leave the stacked servers. Anet just needs to prevent the entire WvW population of BG moving to ET.
