Had my first WvW experience today....
maybe the issue here is your walking around alone
^^^^ Try finding a group to run with or raid supply camps.

The beef of WvW is not fighting another player. It is waging war with your team against the other 2 teams taking advantage of the environment. The PvP fighting is just the tip of the iceberg.
I would encourage you to give it another chance. This time play together with other players in your team.
This won’t hurt [Much]
Ring of Fire
The size of the maps can be intimidating at first. But as you get more familiar with them, the running gets a bit less intimidating. Plus, if you have a character with swiftness buffs, it helps in travelling.
As crazy as it sounds, a large point of WvW is not actually fighting other players. Population aside (assuming for a crazy second that all worlds were equal and playing at the same time of day), between three servers, the one that wins is the one with the best strategy, battlefield awareness and communication (and I guess knowing that putting your defensive carts on the outer edge of a wall is just silly helps too). No, it’s not meant to be PvDoor, but the idea is doing everything else right so when you do start fighting, the odds are stacked in your favour. In that respect, joining up with an organised group (whether a small ninja-raiding/capping team or a larger zerg) will not only mean that you’re likely to have more fun, but also makes you far more useful to your world.
Oh and if the running’s that much of a concern, that’s what ims skills are for.
It gets better. You will die less with better gear.
WvW is actually really fun. It could be better, with less bugs/exploits…. but it’s still fun.
Your server will probably have a commander online next time you join (look for the blue diamond on the map). They’re usually leading a group. You should join up with them, or look around for 3-4 other people and go raid smaller objectives like sentries/dolyaks, and capture supply camps.
I’m sure that being a friendly community (read as: community mostly interested in winning without thinking), people would be glad to help you at least learn the ropes. And I’m sure there will be a few friendly (actually friendly) people around as well that would be happy to have you in their group. What server are you on?

Most wvw seem to be one zerg from each team. You have to find your zerg and avoid the other zerg.
Many times the zergs seems to run in circles around objetives clockwise. From time to time, one zerg catches the other zerg.
At death, you can wait and hope your zerg push the other zerg back and then you will get rezzed. If not you pick up some speed spells and run to battle.
On some maps you can upgrade keeps to have waypoints which will help a bunch.
I just explained wvw to my buddy at work yesterday like this…
At first, you’ll run somewhere for 10 minutes, die, run back, fall off a cliff that you think you can jump from, die, spend 10 minutes running back somewhere, get zerged down by 20 people…
But eventually, you pick it up and it will become the most fun you’ve ever had playing a game. Sometimes I get in with the zerg. Sometimes I get in with a 5-10 player group and take out supplies. Sometimes I run alone and pick off stragglers or just build up some seige and defend a point. You have to go in there and do terrible for a while to learn so that you can have fun.
Plus waypoint can be build in castles…its an upgrade option. If your servers is decent, that’ll be something they do because it obv increases movement speed and reaction times thus helping you win. But with swiftness, it takes 5 minutes from one end of the map to the other so I feel there’s a bit of overexaggerating going on here.
1. Roll with a guild. I tell all the solo players I see this is a game called Guild Wars. Right now my server is getting beaten very badly. Yet when 10 of my guild mates and I get together we can start to control section of the map.
2. Get in voice chat. Dirty jokes really help take up the moments running to and from battles.
3. Understand that their are certain strategic elements to WvW that require long runs so reinforcements arent instant. Even in SPvP there is count dont on returning to fights.
It get much much better.
1. Make sure Map and Team are turned on in your chat window.
2. Read. Follow orders.
3. Get Team Speak if you really want to play.
4. Instant fun.
Hang way back at first and watch. The battle moves. Literally moves and you have to move with it. Make sure you know where the edges are. You will get flanked if you don’t. Watch out for easy routes to your back, or obstacles people can sneak behind (or under).
Learn about supply, blueprints and how to build stuff.
Ask questions.

I’d say give it some more tries. Like someone before said, you’ll eventually get comfortable with the map, and the 3 borderlands are for the most part, the same, except for Eternal Battlegrounds.
If you’re not with a guild that is active in WvW, join one (Some will want you to use teamspeak/vent/etc but talking is not a requirement, at least listen!) and start playing organized. You’ll have more success this way. If that’s not an option, look for Commanders and follow their lead.
Learn about Supply. You might want to pick up some Seige at the Seige NPC vendor. Blueprints only cost 6silver or 12silver (Trebuchets and Golems are more expensive, I’d ignore those for the time being). Seige is absolutely vital. You can have a large “zerg”, but without Supply or Seige, your assault on an enemy Tower is doomed to fail. Sometimes, all it takes is 1 well-placed arrow cart seige weapon to fend off attackers from your fortress.
There’s so much strategy potential, and you won’t experience it unless you’re working with a large force (Or hell, even a small band of supply camp hitters) that know what they’re doing.
Also try getting your swiftness buffs down, + any other tricks your class has for traveling faster.

This is just about right, in my experience.
It does take a little while of playing in WvW to “get” what’s going on. It’s much better if you find someone, or a group of someones, to help you learn the ropes.

November 15, 2012 – The day a dream died.
Ok it kinda clarifies things that im not really looking for pvp battles but all servers competing against pve objectives and pvp happense when we compete for the same objective. Sounds interesting.
It can be interesting. Group battles tend to be about aoe attacks at range and use of siege. So be sure to equip something for range, even if that’s not how you usually like to play. Have speed boost, condition/stun removal on your tool bar. If you don’t like dying and running back, be sure to always have teammates in btween you and the enemy.
As you spend more time out there you will find easier ways to cross the map in less time. Like which cliffs you can leap from and not die, etc. That’s always good information.
Plague/Shadow Gypsies
Jade Quarry
1.play like u have 1 life
2.play with ranged spect, melee is suicide
3.move with zerg
4.dont try be hero
Heres a tip: Join JQ, they are always winning so you wont even die! Also, the buffs makes you much more stronger than your opponent so yeah, join them.
( I got nothing against JQ, i just hate the number 1 server by default)
