Harassed by Players? Is this the norm?
Yes. This is the norm. Ithink it is BS that you can talk to enemies in wvwvw though. Ive complained before but youre about to get posts from people that prefer this.
I think he can whisper you by adding to friends and sending a pm.
Fyi i exclusively run 2-3 man and I get accused of zerging. JuSt give him a u mad?’ and move on.
This is DEFINITELY not the norm. There are certain methods players can get your name even through the anonymous filter, however most players don’t know them. Every game though has that special breed of idiot that take a game as serious as open heart surgery, and when you win against these players they let to know in chorus.
I have played hundreds of hours in WvW and have only had this happen about 2-4 times. When this happens I put them on blocked and move on. He can move on knowing he got “last word”. and I can move on knowing that he had to stoop that low.
As the age old verbiage says: “Don’t feed the trolls.”
They do this via block. If you block somebody, then you have a name.
You can accept that 1 on 1 Politely. decide on a place. Make it near his keep for his comfort. Block him. Make him wait forever as you play as you want.
Stop zerging very small groups then? Why would you even want to kill a 4 man group when you are in a 30-40 one? Or solo players for that matter. Did you expect a “well done” message from that player?

No, normally you expect no message whatsoever. And as for the question why… well, I don’t think they hunted them down all over the map. But if you come across them, why would you just ignore them? If you ignore them, they WILL go and take away your shinies (camps, towers, maybe even keeps). Ignoring them would in most cases be a very stupid decision.

Im not aware we “zerg’d” anyone to be honest. I joined a group with a commander, we took over a castle, then the other server attacked what I presume is our main base so I went and defended, then got messaged. I just presumed this was normal play.
Im more than happy to run around on my own though if thats “how its done” in WvW.
Just dont reply to them, i think they would be more angry if you ignore them
Being able to communicate cross server has it’s very ups and very downs. Usually if someone goes out of their way to message, it’s for a reason. May of the times I’ve sent or received messages it’s been positive.
Carry around some piles of salt (cooking ingredient), and when it happens say nothing and just mail them a neat little pile of salt.
Then block the person and/or report for his behavior.

I must say, i disagree. Getting PMs from enemy players is VERY common.
I see your hundreds of hours of WvW play, and I up you to thousands of hours of WvW play (4k hours).
to the OP,
you can get the names of your enemies a few ways. the most common is to open up your friends list, go to the blocked tab, block the person you’re trying to communicate with, remember/write down their name, unblock them. You can now whisper them. Another way to do this is to use a commander tag and supplyinfo them.
This is part of the fun of WvW, you get to collect the tears of your enemies. This sounds like a common, “yo blobber, come 1v1 me” retort that people who have little situational awareness use to make themselves feel better.
In short, They’re mad. Giggle maddeningly, send them a packet of salt and a smiley face, say thanks for the bag. Ping them your Heavy Loot bags if you really want to irritate them.
Someone above sarcastically asked why a group of 20-30 would go after a small group, and the answer is that: If you get close to an enemy zerg, you should expect to get nuked. All large groups of players can continue to improve on their ability to range bomb and/or melee bomb together.
When do these PMs cross the line of verbal abuse? When they start calling you any of a host of racial or homophobic slurs, when they single you out continue to remind you that you’re a kittenter, tell you that you should off yourself. There are very angry people out there.
Is your server bad for zerging in a group of 20-30? absolutely not.
Is it really, REALLY fun to go 1v1 these angry nerds and beat them 1v1 as well? oh yes. oh yes it is.

For bloodlust stacks or because that small group is close to a camp or tower of ours.
Why wouldnt we kill enemies, if we have the chance?
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
It’s common in WvW. Even worst than in spvp, and that’s saying something. Ping them a packet of salt, then block them. If they get killed by a zerg, they are bad, or they got caught off-guards. In both cases, it’s certainly not a reason to be angry.
Be civil, don’t jump on corpes, don’t laugh when you kill another player (nor teabag it), and if you still get abuse, don’t respond: bad players will be bad.
I’m fairly new to WvW, but a long time GW2 player.
However, I was under the impression that the other servers players were fairly anonymous – which made it very odd when, last night, a player started private messaging me giving me abuse because apparently I had killed him when I was part of a “blob” and that I sucked, and should come and meet him one on one where he would teach me a lesson. He kept telling me that my server’s “blob” was too big, and that I should stop them from doing this style of play.
How exactly he thought I was going to be able to influence all the players on the server I was part of, I don’t know.
However, my question is – how do players on other servers know my name (I thought it just showed my class and server)? Is it normal they then contact you to give you abuse? And then.. is my server bad for having a group of players following a commander as he runs around taking castles?
I suggest you block these insignificant peoples and be done with it.
Have never been whispered abuse by anyone and the whispering is great for duels. I’d be annoyed if it was removed because it remains the only way to organize duels.
Can i get a GG ANET?!
Send them some packs of salt in the mail XD

It’s normal.
Sad, but normal.
Evil, but normal.
Childish, but normal.
Are we starting to comprehend that we need to change the definition of “normal” or just learn that many in our world, regardless of “age”, will never mature and will never, EVER be the people they should have become?
Report, Block, Move on.
I was taught that by a gamer whose wisdom I embraced and now my “world” on both sides, enemy AND “friendly” has become one of teamwork and respect.
You can’t control others’ actions but you can control your own reaction TO their actions.
My advice – do what I stated above, find your friends in being in WvW “regularly” whatever that is, become “known” by your kindness, loyalty and actions – actions like staying on tag… responding to calls… and never maligning anyone including an enemy.
WvW is the end game for Guild Wars 2 and it deserves much more respect and love from the Devs than it ever gets.
We will be getting a new, USED map in WvW…. looks amazingly like ETOM… and that makes me upset… we didn’t need more topsy turvey, disorienting, crazy-town maps IN WvW, we needed what we have fixed… like servers that are ten times your size going against you for no reason whatsoever… or having one so small against you that the win is not only assured, it’s embarrassingly lopsided.

IF I were to do that… it would be cheese and wine… but I’d never do that.
Just block them and move on. Easy as that. If you really think it necessary report them with the in game report tool.
The reason you get whispers like that is Anet doesn’t allow cross server open world chat for whatever reason in wvw.
If you get verbally abused by an enemy player, block them, report them, and that’s it. It will happen again, sadly, but you get used to it. You need thick skin for WvW or PvP, because are always those people out there. They want you to lose your cool and make mistakes. They want you to get mad. Don’t give them the satisfaction.

You forgot one thing:
“beat the living virtual crap out of him in 1v1 ! "
His jimmies were rustled. I’d just give him a lolz #umadbro and move on.

In that case it was a very weird message to you. If they expect a keep to be defended by just a few. Of course a zerg comes to help when their keep is attacked.
I was refering to entire zergs defending camps/points/dollys that are attacked by a small group of lets say 4.
I get whispered quite often after i beat someone, the rage a single spacebar generate is quite strong. (especially if its a thief you beat as a ranger)
On the other hand i often whisper friendemies when we had a nice spontanious “duel” somewhere, even when they beat me. But yea some can be very rude and i usually put those on block, or ill just have them let a go and at some point ill ask "done with the whines sir? "

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
Palleon, you did absolutely nothing wrong. As one of the previous posters mentioned, there are those that take this game as seriously as open heart surgery. Just ignore them, laugh at their juvenile responses, and continue playing the game and enjoy it!
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

Yeah in this game its really hard to be able to be in a 1v1 fight unless both parties agree they will keep it that way. I.E. Duels.
To those of us that love to duel, it is a hard thing to contend with when running around looking for your size fight because zerging is boring to you only to get zerged down as you do so and lose your stacks or at best run into only 5 other people.
BTW, whoever the YB ranger is trolling the SoS EB Keep, I would have loved to stay and duel this morning but I have a job. Unfortunately I couldnt whisper you to set up another duel where I have time because youre offline or I had youre name wrong.
I actually don’t mind the pm’s … sometimes you can basically coordinate each server to meet up and fight. Can be fun. The childish remarks only reflect there lack of emotional control. If they lose it on someone in a game … they got bigger issues. This just a game lol.
Say, that’s a fine whine! Then ping a piece of cheese.
ANet may give it to you.
why are people still being salty after being zerged down? its the dead guy’s fault for not being ready to skedaddle away from danger.
Not really the norm. I’ve been playing WvW since near launch and can count on one hand the number of times some troll has messaged me (usually mad because they died).
Just block and move on.

Just point and laught at the guy nerdraging because he died in wvw,
why are people still being salty after being zerged down? its the dead guy’s fault for not being ready to skedaddle away from danger.
I can get very salty when a group of 30 chases me across half the map, kills me, some proceed to spam emotes on me and then the whole group goes in the direction where the chase started from.
Or it makes me laugh when I know they just wasted 1-2minutes while guildies flipped their T3.
