I’m lagging in borderlands right now (LOL), and I was wondering if anyone has noticed improvements since the supposed optimizations.

I still don’t go to EB because the lag is completely ridiculous every time someone farts on SMC, and now the borderlands I’ve been in have been unplayable for about 15 minutes now.

What about you guys?

Actually, yes. I have.

All 3 servers fighting in SM and although there was lag in general, I did notice a vast improvement with skill lag.
This is not to say skill lag is cured, as I did still notice some, it just mean skills were firing of a couple of seconds later rather than either not firing off or firing of min’s later.

To also be fair, I have recently had my broadband upgraded from 4meg, to fiber optic 37meg. Have no Idea if this would make any difference at all.

Feels like I’m experiencing less skill lag as well. I’m not much of a zergling myself, but I remember times when I ran into massive skill lag (game pretty much unplayable) while roaming solo b/c 2 or 3 giant zergs clashed somewhere on the map. Haven’t experienced anything like that for some time now; but recent ‘balance’ patches made me play a lot less than I used to, so maybe I’m just missing out on these things due to less time spent playing.

Last night SOR borderlands was insane. All 3 servers filled SORs garrison and I literally could not cast a single skill the entire time I was there. I could run laps through and around 200+ enemy opponents for 10 minutes and not take damage. Overall, some of the problems we were facing in this tier the week before seem to have slightly improved but these situations where a map gets filled and nobody can do anything still happen every week.

As sostronk stated, it can still be really bad when an insane number of players are at one location. However, those situations are not the norm (thankfully), and I’ve noticed an improvement. The server seems to be handling 100ish players clashing much better now, but there are still issues when that number is pushed higher.

Since last patch ( when I was content with the lag, only on very big groups ) but now, its just unplayable..

Anet you probally never read your wvw section, but it is unplayable.. even 30 v 30 starts to lag it is just not normal that after 10 month its getting worse instead of better, and I was been told u guys had the best in the industry.. your guys are W4F?

They just need to bring the limit of people on a map down. Cut it in half and everything will be fixed. Then people will also transfer away from the top tiers because there will be huge Q’s. Hence spreading everybody out the way it was always supposed to be.

I doubt it needs to be cut in half, lol.

Anet must know by now what the approximate max number of players spamming skills are in one wvw map that causes this skill lag and I’m sure they could adjust accordingly. My guess is that the number of players is set beyond the skill lag bubble because they don’t want to limit the number of players in a map to a number that would be equal to the skill lag caused by almost all fighting each other at the same time?

I’m also guessing they allow more than the skill lag bubble so the map has more players in it with the assumption those players are more spreadout and not all using their skills at once?

Just guessing…and hoping for a fix of server optimization rather than cutting the numbers from wvw maps. /doesn’t hold breath

I think we all got a preview a while back when we could only get about 40 into a map and it seemed like a barren wasteland if you weren’t with the zerg. I know I don’t want that.

I don’t know on which tiers you guys that say its not getting better play but from what i expirienced its much better than in the past (i am tier 4 right now). If i distinguish between normal lag caused by my hardware setup and actual skill lag (the incapability to use any skills) it is nothing like it was a few months ago.

It still is horrible in the largest 3-way SMC fights. But overall, I feel like I’ve complained less about lag recently

2-ways in SM still lag the crap out of EBG for us. 3-ways are just unmanageably bad…

2-way open field fights are causing major lag as well. It seems like these have gotten worse, actually, but that might be my imagination.

I have, pretty much. Some huge fights that you used to get skill lag you’re not, of course you stil get it in some situation, although they’ve improved and not fixed yet. I have high hopes there would be a day where 3 servers fighting in SM with no skill lag at all, how epic would that be.
