Guild Wars 2

Hi everyone!

I created this topic to give me some light on WvW. I heard some people are leveling through this zone and would like to learn more. Im a lvl 57 human mesmer and never tryed WvW yet, simply because I dont see the point. Is there any advantage of going there ? Well I go there once, and leave immediatlly because there was too many colors on the map… kinda look complicated to say the thruth. So here is some questions I have:

1) Is leveling faster than in PVE ?
2) What about questing ?
3) Farming monsters is usefull?
4) Can we get better items than in PVE ?
5) Are the items looted are only for WvW or can be used in PVE too ?
6) When I enter this zone Im upped to lvl 80… so is the items I get are lvl 80 too ? or adjusted to my PVE level ?
7)What should I do in WvW at first ?

I know its alot of question, but I would really appreciate if someone take the time to answer.

I can answer your questions in a later post (at work right now) but you if your sole purpose is leveling you’re better off doing zone completions in pve maps. (i hit 80 during the 3 day headstart by doing zone completions.) WvW is all about the thrill if battle.

1. No, if you’re crafting/dungeon farming it’s WAY FASTER
2. questing??? there’s only objectives, such as take or defend tower/keep/supply camp.
3. I’d advise against it, since ur a low lvl player getting scaled, up, since monsters are stronger and only give same amt of xp as a monster your lvl.
4. It’s relatively the same, but it’s just way harder in wvw, because players are harder to kill, and monster killing is inefficient.
5. Items are for all parts of the game, except for badges, which you turn into a badge vendor for items. (used for pve/wvw) Well you could also get blueprints which are only for wvw.
6. no. adjusted to your pve lvl. sometimes worse.
7. ask the map/team chat, for what objectives to capture. Or follow around the commander if there is one in that borderland (blue icon tag on the map)

wvw is meant to be a fun experience, so don’t expect to level up faster than pve. There’s a chance you could level up faster, but it just means you would have to be capturing that much more objectives to come close to it. Ascalonian catacombs explore mode will give around 70-90% of your level up alone on completion, and depending on how fast you complete it you could be leveling up 2 levels per hour. Guess what the good news is if you farmed the dungeon a billion times as well? the tokens you get can be turned in at a vendor for your lvl 80 exotics. It just might not be the ones you’re looking for stat wise.

1. Depends on the match your server having. If the match is even, it means there’s always some kind of activity (taking stuff, defending stuff etc-etc) – stick with your zerg and you’ll earn some exp. Otherwise, if your server is either an underdog who’s having problems or a leader without competition, I suggest stick with PvE.
2. If you about events, they’re mostly useless, unless it’s Mercenary Camp event (instructor NPC can show where they are). Simply, in those kind of events you’re fighting for NPC to assist your team (they’ll guard your keeps/camps or attack enemy’s ones).
3. NO. In fact, if you farm in WvW everybody hate you and your whole family.
4. Nope, there’s only one set of WvW armor and weapons, they’re not particular better or worse, but will cost you more time and effort.
5. Yes, except for blueprints – those can be used only in WvW. And badges, think of them like of WvW tokens – you can buy WvW armor/weapons for them or siege weapons blueprints.
6. Nope, you’ll have same gear with same stats, only your character’s stats will be higher. You also won’t be able to set up all your traits unless you’re an actual level 80.
7. Go to instructor NPC near Asura portals at your spawn, he’ll tell you. Then, hit “B” and check that color you’re (look for house icon near server’s name). After this, open you map and look where fights are going (crossed swords icon). If there’s a blue icon at some of those fights – it means, your commander is near and most likely he with his zerg, go there. Otherwise, just look where all people are going and stick with them. By the end of the day you’ll learn all WvW basics.

So if there is no really advantage of WvW or PvP…. Whats the goal… I mean If PVE/PVP/WvW gear would be all the same, and best set could be obtained only in certain PvP maps then it would have a sense to go there. Also if drop rate in PvP maps would be increased it would make sense…

No advantage at all…. why people go there then, since its just gangbangingpeople for nothing ?

Like I said, it’s basically just for fun, It’s all about end game content really.

What would you do if you was fully geared, max level, and had nothing to do?
You either quit the game, or you play wvw.

Also i’m not sure if you’re refering to pvp as Spvp, because that is way different, and all items in SPvP is the same, to basically let all players have an equal chance to play competitively without gear grinding.

For fun, simple as that.
WvW is GW2’s endgame. Some people having their robot-fun with farming, but some people want epic fights with other people.

Also the best gear without a doubt would come from PVE for many reasons. Badge farming is way too slow to even get the 80’s exotics. They only have one stat which is power/toughness/vitality. They look ugly.

I tough that once lvl 80, you can farm for better items, to owns other players in PvP 0.o

The last game I played it was like that…. Max lvl was 83, and once you get there, you go real PvP and get better items… Some items in this game was dropped by some boss, and it had like 0,01% chance of dropping it, but whe u get it, you own everyone. They was about 10 person with such items on a server of 30k + person. It makes a goal in endgame….

basically there really isn’t any item like that, because I’m sure anet didn’t want that. The very best weapons you could have would be legendaries. But let’s not even get started about that, seeing as you’re a far way from it. Unless you want to buy gold from gold sellers, you won’t even be able to attain legendary for a good while. There really isn’t any random generated gear stats, everything will have the base stats but just different looks.

well if you aim for legendaries, you’ll need 500 badges to get the gift of battles if I’m not wrong. And badges can only farm in WvW
