Hello! I’m, Felivear, and I’m a PvPer. I have played SPvP since beta and recently, with some of the changes that they made to glory, I’ve been allowed to get a couple of 80s. I’ve geared them and now have taken the fight to WvW!

I love open world PvP and I am enjoying roaming around and having small skirmished; but, today I ran into something that bothered me.

I run a mesmer, and part of my damage is from conditions. I fought a healing signet warrior (which already makes me want to cuss. highest HPS in the game on a sit-and-forget skill…great balance), but then I noticed that my conditions were far less effective as well. I then see a buff that gave him -40% condi duration….from food. I was blown away that food would provide such a huge buff, so I took to the TP to see if I could acquire such a must-have buff. They are 24s…a piece.

So, one thing that I really loved about the “Manifesto” is their intent on a level playing field, but how is this a level playing field? I don’t have 24s to spend every 30 minutes on a bowl of soup.

2 questions:
1 – are there more food buffs out there that provide huge advantages? What else am I missing out on that puts me at a disadvantage by not knowing about in the buff department
2 – what does everyone else think about this? I’m sure since it’s a part of WvW it’s the norm, but to me, it’s disturbing.

Thanks

Everyone can buy and use food, ie level playing field. Food helps create variety in builds, balance out your build, or maximize a build focus.

Buy the -36% duration food for a lot lower price. You can use two food items, one of each type, at a time. Pick the ones that best suite your build.

WvW compared to SPvP is different than many comparisons. While there is some min/maxing in SPvP, where you’re playing more for the character core mechanics, it is much more expansive in WvW because there are more variables to account for. This makes for seeing a wider range of builds, thus needing more buffs to help maintain some sense of balance. As mentioned above, it’s something everyone has access to, so it’s fair play. You can afford to take some crit out of your gear build, in exchange for health as an example, because you can always make it up with sharpening stones, etc.

This still doesn’t prevent certain specs from facerolling others, but it’s one of those things where the person who steamrolled you (just saying for example) is just as easily wrecked by another player with a counter build.

You can run food that offsets their food (Koi Cake and Veggie Pizza come to mind).

This is a very interesting situation. Spvp player clashes with WvW.

How do you level a character solely using glory, btw?

There is also buff you can get after you have ranked up enough in wvw that will give you even more advantage on top of food buffs/bloodlust/ascended gear.
