Why do I even wear armor? I’m in clerics and running around supporting a pugmander and trying to salvage some fun in this godforsaken mode. The night so far is filled with little gems like this. 3.3k armor and still getting slammed for 12.5k+ with CoR. A ranged AoE on a short CD being wielded by a heavy armor class. How did that even seem legit on paper? Anet, you moved away from GW1’s secondary profession feature because you said it was hard to balance yet you let this grossness seep into GW2 (CoR just being one example). The combat makes this game shine and you’re kittening all over even that. For the love of Dwayna, straighten this out.

Yeah I feel your pain gennyt. I’m pretty disappointed. I’ve found what you have experienced, no matter what gear or toughness just massive hits for insane critical damage from opposing players.
I finally gave in tonight on my roaming necro and ran some condi perplex super bleeding, chill, confusion build that does insane condition damage and duration. I don’t even feel like I’m trying anymore, I just hit a few keys and watch my opponent melt with condis. There’s literally no counter to it…just spam crap and go reaper mode let the condis do the work and melt poor player. Game is all over the place with zero support from devs, just sloppy communication.

I left the game because of the amateurish class balance in HoT and the lack of support for GvG and other competitive modes. I don’t know what happened, it’s like they have nobody left in their company with the competence to supervise skill balance and fix game-breaking issues in a timely fashion.

Pretty much.
The power creep of HoT messed up all the gamemodes.
A lot of PvE content (dungeons in particular) has been completely trivialized by the absurd new heights of damage. While I don’t know the particulars of the maximum attainable DPS, I wouldn’t be surprised if it currently approaches twice what was possible when dungeons were designed.
The PvP meta is garbage with way too much (way too strong) AoE cleave and far too much damage efficiency, causing the skill ceiling for every meta build to be excruciatingly low.
But neither of those modes was hit anywhere near as hard as WvW. I’d even go so far as to suggest that the impact HoT had on WvW fights has driven more people away from the game than the horrendous new map. Due to the shear number of players involved, the balance between group-wide sustain and damage in WvW is quite delicate, and this was quite obviously not considered for a second during development of the expansion (or the specialization update in June, while we’re at it).

A lot (and I do mean a lot) of formerly dedicated WvW players who are still playing the game are only doing so because they haven’t found a replacement yet. Many have high hopes for BDO. Personally, I do not think it will fill the hole left by what GW2 WvW once was (from what I hear it doesn’t have anywhere near the same teamwork requirements). However, eventually a new solid RvR game will come out and this game will suffer immensely.

They need to sell this game so some classes are OP like rev. But Anet don’t know to balance their game just look at pvp, their balance is like remove this amulet and its done.

I completely agree. My personal enjoyment of the game took already a big hit with the June patch 2015. I liked the idea of streamlining traits, but the execution was awful. Merging some traits and making too many others baseline was a bad idea. Too much power creep. Then came HoT and it got even worse. Every class got access to the most uninteresting mechanics (more evades, more blocks, more boon spam, more burst damage, more stealth, more passives, etc.). All the new abilities are on very low cools downs leading to more spam instead of intelligent use. I fail to see how the developers believed that this is fun.

Something I noticed is that there are far too many damage boost in traits. Everyone gets them, revs get +7 damage vs targets with vulnerability, +7% while under the effect of fury, +3% per boon on you.

Engi’s get +2-3% per condition on target, necros get x, y, and z, eles get boost, theif gets boost, warriors are built around a 20% damage boost after using their big hit move.

Damage scales out of control with no parallel defense damage mitigation. Most defense from traits is damage negation not mitigation. Damage just outpaces defense and kills build diversity by effectively locking raw stats behind traits.

People still complaining about this? I see so few revs in wvw these days. CoR got such a nerf that running full zerk yields a 12K CoR every 4 seconds rather than 20K every 2. It was fun while it lasted, but I find glass rev in wvw is way too risky.

Yep. Combat has become a power creep cesspool and it’s such a bummer because I still actually want to play WvWvW. The heavier pirate shipping because of the extra CCs Hot heaped on, structure upgrades (getting doused with chill and airstrikes, etc) and age old PvDooring makes sitting through that EBG queue hardly worth it. It largely chased away my guild, we’ll be playing BDO and hoping for the best though. Slogging through an eyerolling amount of GW2’s PvE for guild upgrades (that are sitting there catching dust now) didn’t help either ha!

I see Heralds a plenty, DHs are probably a close second now lol. Yes CoR was comically broken before, now its simply broken. Glass Rev is risky if positioning is bad or if there is nothing to position around (getting ganked or a running with an outmatched group, but the same goes for most glass builds). Otherwise just hang back and spam hammer skills, even the auto attacks can hurt real bad (but at least they’re projectiles so yay?).

Hitting a glass cannon for high damage makes sense but I was not running glass. Even if I was, it’s nuts that an attack like that is 1200 range and on a 4sec CD with little drawback (low energy cost, doesn’t root, non-projectile). All this on top of easy access to boons (on their own, even more so in a group).

Still amazes me that even after a nerf the skill is way too overpowered. When it was on the design board and no one at Anet said, “No, too OP”? No one? Who thought this would be a good idea? I’d wager it was the marketing people- they probably said, “Everyone will want to buy HoT so they can be OP or be left behind!”

I used to prefer attrition builds pre-HoT, although my Necro still is. But since HoT released, I’ve gone full glass on my remaining characters.

Sure I get blown up in 1v1’s sometimes but I can do the very same to my opponent if I play my cards right. What’s the point in building defensively though when toughness means nothing and your vitality needs to be minimum 20k to not get one shot by at least 2 – 3 skills per profession.

Most times I don’t much care if I die quick. It’s those times where something 1 shots me from way out of left field like a random Vault, Gunflame, Coalescence Of Ruin or True Shot to name a few, that I just groan and restrain myself from putting my knuckles through the screen. It just feels cheap and it’s horribly frustrating.

I had asked in a thread today about a new build to use for my Ranger and I tried out a Celestial set. It’s not bad… Enjoyable in 1v1’s, okay for roaming. But I still get my health chopped in half by a lot of different things even with 24k health. And thus I’m going to be swapping back to full glass again when I relog later, lol.

i play engi with 3k armor and 22k vitality and often get one shot by 2-3 skills of some classes. most of them rev or mesmers.

but wvw isnt meant to be 1 vs 1. ok fine.

well. let see then the boon sharing – damage dealt and sustain of every single class on its own that goes to godmode when other 4-5 same boonsharing players are around.

put in 2 guardians 2 reapers and 1 elementalist aura sharing = godmode

No i like the fact glass cannon elementalists can tank the most raw damage. I like the fact that everyone else’s armour comes from their dodges and ports and invulnerabilities and blocks that cant be unblocked. I like how the heavier your armour type, the less survivabilikitty you have. It’s brilliant how the above and complete heals for whatever dmg u take…and foolproof ways to getup from downed state…and the size and ease of dropping aoe circles….and the ridiculous duration of fights = combat. I’m starting to feel bad for even necro at this point….they can have alll the hp in the world but that mesmer/elementalist can mitigate dmg so much better, you just plain look stupid letting anything hit you full force.

The combat system is still there! It is awesome! but someone needs to remove the abuses hot has fostered.
-downed state offers some classess tooo much of an advantage,or others too few
-ability to heal teammates and downed players is too kitten
-penalty for gettin rezed after downed and killed is nonexistent
-most people have so much stealth and port and movement abilitites that they easily abuse ooc to instant heal when they are losing a fight.
—ooc is stupidly kitten, combat speed is stupidly kitten (MAKE EVERYTHING UNIFORM), inability to dodge aoe due to having no stability is kitten.

and the dumb elite traits ruined all build diversity just for the sake of making u buy the exp….so selfish feeling, not the old gw motif i grew to love. they didnt raise the level cap….if they did then fine u do need the expansion. They just reshipped existing game features u used to have so u need hot….thats not cool.

Cerby, we obviously don’t see eye to eye lol. I think it’s pretty bogus that a glass cannon elementalist can solo fight an entire 5 man team and come out completely untouched by pressing 2 buttons. Things need fixed.

My math is less than perfect but its seems without buffs and having next to no critical damage (Minimum is 150%) the power of this person that hit you is only around 1600 – 1650. That was calculated with the max hammer strength of 1166 and hit with the final blow of coalescence of ruin (skill-specific coefficient) of 2.25.Maybe someone with better Math skills could help me with this.I’m sure this is wrong.

Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
