As things are going now DR will be in 1st in tier 8 with MAG in 2nd after next week Mag will have DR buried so deep it would take DR a long time to dig out of tier 8. The teams currently in tier 8 suffer from having to do weeks of blow outs to get out of tier 8 but yet it appears tier 8 will right back where it started. The reset just doesn’t make sense as tier 1 is fairly equal now and most middle tier teams are finding where they should be. Reset is just a few days off and i wish ANET would show us their new formula soon.

I will just belive in the impossible and think that hiding the math is a way to do manual arrangements on the tiers.

No matter how you alter the math, the servers that win by the biggest margins will gain the most ranking points and go straight to T1.

only 3 servers fit in t1 … if anyone is to blame, blame the transfer guilds and blame the servers obviously tanking this week so they drop.

All we have to go on thus far is this statement from Mike Ferguson on the reasoning behind new math.

Over the last couple of months we’ve seen that when worlds experience dramatic changes in their ability to field a consistent fighting force for whatever reason, it can take quite a while for them to work their way through the ratings until they end up in a match that suits them better. In a lot of cases, some worlds took multiple matches to work their way through a single tier even after a series of blowouts. We really dont like that, so one of the goals for updating the math behind the ratings is to try and reduce how often we experience the repeated blowouts that can come from that sort of situation and get those teams through the rankings quicker.

I take this to mean they want servers to move up faster, and down faster, depending on the score differences in a single match, and in effect increase the volatility. So from what my little brain can reckon, their math changes might even exaggerate what we’re currently seeing in the projected rankings using the current formula. For the next few weeks anyways until things more or less reach equilibrium.

Yes. It’s disconcerting that any of us should understand the ramifications of these changes better than Anet does.

The problem with those comments, however, is that they relate to historical problems, at least for the NA servers. The massive changes in populations resulted from free transfers, which no longer exist. And most of the ascending/descending servers have now worked their way close to where they should be (I would like to see a list of where servers would be next match if the ratings weren’t being reset). Changing the system now is akin to closing the gate not only after the horse has bolted but has since returned so it can no longer get back in the stables.

For the NA servers, why can’t they just normalise the ratings, introduce the new algorithms and continue on as we are? If the Euro server matches are truly messed up, deal with them separately with a complete reset if necessary.
