How about a partial lockdown for nighttimes?
I don’t like night capping and I feel it is ruining the current WvW match ups with it being the determining factor in who wins, but if we give the “ladder” system enough time to balance itself out the night capping “problem” should no longer be an issue.
At worst the night cappers will be owning everything at night while the other servers own everything during the day. At best the night capping servers will end up fighting each other.
When you say “night time”, which time zone are you talking about?
If after answering that question you still think this is a good idea, there is no hope for you.
November 15, 2012 – The day a dream died.
That’s regrettably not true, just because a server has a strong night activity doesn’t mean he has no players during daytime.
And the second point is even if it balances itself out, there will be a point of overlapping between ‘normal’ servers and night-active servers…. a point I really don’t whish to be in.
@Krusk
Please don’t do it. We’re trying to find a common ground not to get rid of off-timers.
Wow … The worse idea yet, talk about game breaking.

I’m talking about timezones in which the servers are deployed.
But I see what you mean. I obviously thought primarily about europe where everyone has the same general time (+- 1 to 2 hours) so there wouldn’T be much of a problem defining the timeframe. The US Servers act more as international servers and could have more problems.
So, I’m guessing you have not read ANY other thread on this topic because your suggestion has already been addressed argued the wrong way to combat this problem. Whose nighttime are you talking about? If the hours I work don’t follow peak time for my server does that mean I’m out of luck?
Check this thread mate >>
“Stop playing when I can’t play” is all I get out of these night-cap threads. It’s entirely reprehensible that you would consider your prime time to be the only time in which players may play.
War doesn’t stop overnight. Neither does WvW.

There are no other posts suggesting “Stop playing when I can’t play” except this one. If it’s all you get, you seem to missed a lot.
EDIT: And I started to think Kkittens a HoD troll to bring discussion to this point.

The thread is a bandage to that effect. Instead of not letting people play, they’re locking things down so there’s no point of playing.

And don’t forget, for you Americans, play over night just one time, you will be pleasantly surprised how many players you have on your server at that given time. Every US dominant server gives the oceanic prime time a run for their money even till the wee early of our morning. Just because you’re not there, doesn’t mean no one is.

I’m sure either Krusk has no idea on the ongoing discussions or he’s trolling for HoD. It’s better ignore this post and discuss valid ideas.

Yeah, there’s lots of regular dudes on at night, because that’s just when they can play. I find most people on late at night/early morning are just unemployed, or have different schedules. But whether they’re American or Filipino, they still have the same right to play the game they paid for, and not be punished for having a different schedule or time zone than someone else.

Pretty much. Valid ideas are:
- leaving things alone
- playing harder
Or increase the player limits instead and make the score clock be based on the number of players in WvW…
@ fractalKinesis
There is another valid idea:
Make scoring system to take number of total participants on WvW Map.
You guys have to stop now. ANet chose a stance here, they aren’t going to adopt any mechanic that addresses this in any way.
I recommend we all turn our focus to what we can do to fix this, or adapt to it.
You are only going to frustrate yourself and destroy your own credibility by continuing to harp on something that has been definitively decided.

In my past gaming career I’ve seen many stances which they had to back up as players didn’t accept it. On EVE one of those stances resulted with a player blockade and a public apology from EVE devs. On SWTOR, they kept their stance and they lost more than half of their PvP player base.
We bought this game, we paid for it. We’re gonna not gonna leave it before we’re 100% sure we can’t fix this.
I’m not talking about locking the whole thing down, read more closely. I was only referring to the big keeps. Part of the idea came from people investing less and less in upgrading the big keeps, because “this waypoint will be gone tommorrow regardless of what I do”
And I’m sorry if this idea in a similar form was already posted, I looked at different threads but did not do a throrough research.
Also before you’re going to attack me, It wasn’t a proposal to do exactly this. It was more ‘thinking how to approach certain points without stopping people from playing during nighttime’ namely big chunks of points skewering WvW results and – more importantly – to make it more desireable to upgrade big keeps.

Well, here we can begin to get into a rather interesting philosophical discussion.
Who knows what’s better for the long-term success of a game: the players, with little data and emotional perogatives – or the developers, with immense data and financial perogatives?
But I won’t. I will just say… I understand.

I’d say Developers of course… Oh wait….

ANYTHING that creates a disparity between two random players’ experiences is going to be a no-go, based on Mike Ferguson’s previous postings about this subject.
No player should log in and have less of a WvW experience simply because he lives a certain place, or has a certain time schedule. If a player never gets to assault or defend a keep, he is being forbidden a part of the experience for no other reason than his geographical and/or socio-economic situation.

My shift at work is about to change. I may end up on a nightshift working as late as 11pm. My potential playtime is then anywhere from 12am to 4am. Disallowing “nightcapping” would essentially neuter the game for me and anyone like me.
There’s no need to “fix” nightcapping because it’s not broken in the first place. People play at all times of day and night as their schedule allows. Is my playtime somehow worth less than someone who works at regular 9-5?

People are selfish. They think because they cannot play at night, noone should be able to benefit from it.

Their complaint (the reasonable ones) is that THEIR playtime is worth less than someone who works the 2nd or 3rd shift.
Same emotion, different perspective.

I see this point and I am actually with you (and him) on this. The problem i see is that the CURRENT situation is also creating a disparity, through nullifiing whatever the server did on daytime.
Currently points tend to be much closer to each other during daytime. WvW matches are decided in the night – thus lessening the impact a daytime player can have on WvW.
But this is all drifting solely to the nightshift problem – my main problem is that upgrading big keeps seems almost useless due to loosing it in the night due to the population disparities.

It’s not currently creating disparity. There is no lack of equality here. It could just as easily happen at 1pm PST if your server is primarily west coast and your opponents are all over NA.
We are talking about trying to fix when people are allowed to play the game here….that doesn’t need a “fix” and shouldn’t be “fixed”.
There is no nightshift problem because there is no nightshift. It’s prime time for them. To them, our hours are the nightshift and they wake up to all their hard labor gone, evaporating as they slept and worked.
The “solution” is to get over it, take back your kittens when you hop back on at night, and have a darn good time doing it. Then think about what you can leave behind that will aid the select few “nightshifters” who are actually playing on your server while you sleep in an effort to retain as much as they can until your peak server time hits again.
Honestly, the whole invention of this imaginary issue is the most selfish thing I’ve seen on this game so far. It was released world-wide. If I wanted to hop on an EU server, I could have. People play when they can and when they want. There is nothing to fix here……..well, aside from ending the free server transfers…….and possibly the orbs but that one is debatable ;-)

Awful idea. Already been suggested. The devs have said no repeatedly. No NO no nO NO no No NO NO NO. Seriously guys, this is just silly.
Hmm, my night time is 3pm-10pm Eastern time.
If you want to “lock it down” during those times, sure. Oh and I live in NA, so you can’t blame me for being over sea even lol.
If you agree on locking it down during my “night time” then ok. Otherwise please don’t suggest a ridiculous thing.

The problem is that the majority of the points are awarded when the majority of the player base isn’t playing.
That seems sort of counter-intuitive
EH?
Leave WvW as is.
Your best to find a server that fits your play time instead of locking everyone down to your play time.
www.graystatemovie.com its coming if you like it or not.
I think a solution to the fix would be to make servers on their respective time zones. Oceanic, Asian, European, NA etc. And if you were from that time zone you can’t play on servers from another time zone. This was the same setup in DAoC, all the servers that you could play on here in the U.S. were all NA servers and during the evening hours the servers were barely half as busy as they were during the day time hours on any US time zone, so if you wanted to take a keep in RvR it would take alot more strategy and team work for you to succeed.
A good example of this would be one of my experiences from that game. I remember my guild waking up early (around 5-5:30 am in the morning.) to ninja a relic from one of the opposing factions. We succeeded because it was carefully planned out, but it still wasn’t that easy because the opposing faction managed to draw up enough forces to defend the keep.
