Experienced WvW people:

When I jump on solo to roam a bit, what is the most helpful thing I can do?

What voice service is most used? TeamSpeak? Mumble? Something else?

I figure if I listen in to the current strategy, I can find out where I can most contribute.

Zerging is not my thing; I don’t enjoy mass battles of hitting doors with 100 other people in a mass.

Zerging doesn’t really involve hitting doors… But anyway, on your borderland, hang around the south of the map and deny yaks and take camps if possible. Deny enemy reinforcements if there’s a fight. Same thing on an enemy borderland, deny dolyaks and camps. In EBG, there’s not much to do as a roamer besides protecting camps from other roamers and trying to take camps.

Hey,

1. What I usually do when I go soloroam is flipping camps of every tier and killing dolyaks in order to interrupt the supply delivery. A very good timing for flipping a camp is after or during a keep assault. Also, since I am moving around the map a lot, I can report suspicious activities such as the enemy building golems and stuff like that. Gank all the zerglings :P, and cap the ruins in your border

What many people underestimate is the amount of score you get by holding all three bloodlusts while your zergs stomp every enemy they see. It is about 30%? of the overall score and its really important. So if you constantly cap/recap the ruins, you’re able to generate 3 points per stomp. In a big stonemist battle you could (I say could because everyone is cleaving anyway) potentially stomp over 70 people, so thats free 210 score just like that.

2. Depends on the server/guild, most servers use teamspeak though.

3. And of course its important to have fun

I am new at this. I took a ruins but it started turning back to neutral the moment I left.

Sounds like that’s normal and you need to stand on it while other people stand on the other ruins to “turn” three for bloodlust, is that right?

There are several things to do as a solo roamer:

1. Try to capture camps/defend camps, preferrebly around 5-6 min to ticker timer so enemy cannot get the camps back before tick

2. Try to hunt down yaks, especially yaks from home camp to objectives that are still upgrading.

3. Bloodlust. This is very important and can help your server a lot. Now you won’t be able to do this alone, so usually need to ask on map chat to get 2-3 people together. If the enemy on your borderland has the bloodlust, you need to turn at least 3 to your color and hold them (at least 3) for 2 min to get the bloodlust. Once you capture the bloodlust, you don’t need to hold the points anymore, just need to make sure your enemy won’t be able to hold 3 points for 2 min to get the bloodlust back.

4. Cut reinforcement to major battles, if you have 3-4 with you you can also try to ninjia an enemy’s objective while their main force is engaged else where.

lets say some commander wants to golem rush bay. how could you help without drooling on your 1 key at the gates?

  1. take the east camps
  2. take the north camps
  3. take briar/lake
  4. tap hills when the rush begins
  5. perma tap garri
  6. tap northeast tower
  7. camp the sentry between garri and bay
  8. take bloodlust (need a partner)
  9. camp north camp

basically, you wanna be the biggest distraction possible OR you wanna snipe everything you can while everyone has eyes for only bay.

commanders thrive on information.

If you walk past a north tower in an away borderland, click on the walls and gates, if the walls are upgraded and the gate is not, tell the commander on the map, either in voice chat or pm. if they say there going to do something with it proceed to kill all yacks going to that tower to stop it form upgrading.

reporting enemy zerg info is also usefull usually just post this in team chat. try and guess numbers and if there is a dominant guild tag. if you cant guess the numbers try and estimate whether the group is smaller or lager then the group on the commander.

Solo roaming:
1. Kill yaks
2. Report enemy zergs you see and where you see them, kill the slow ones :P.
3. Take camps
4. Tap waypointed keeps/upgraded towers.
5. Kill sentries
6. Group up with other roamers to take bigger objectives (bloodlust, towers, undefended keeps).

Overall havoc accounts for close to a half of the total ppt. Dolyaks give 3 instant ppt when killed, sentry give 1 ppt and invaders give 1 ppt (with BL). The instant ppt you can get accounted for ~226k of the total ppt in t1 last week and 84k total ppt comes from camps over the week. That is ~301/686 total ppt. (error with total ppt fixed 460k ppt from objectives)

Flips camps, sentry’s, merc camps, tap keeps/towers (fully upgraded [T3/fortified] will get the most attention), stop stragglers from getting to their zergs, kill yaks, scout enemy positions and report them to commander and be a diversion when your own zerg is near by. Eg. Being an attractive squirrel. Jump in the distance and pull enemies from their zerg to keep the ones that are prone to wander away from your own zerg. Even if you die in the process, it still could mean keeping 5 people from the enemy zerg away from your own long enough for the enemy zerg to be overpowered.

My personal number one rule as a roamer for being helpful, though… Is to not be a duelist. Don’t troll around looking for fights. It’s fun, sure. But it serves very little purpose if that’s all you’re doing.

One of the most effective things you can do imo is making proper use of supply traps and burning supplies. These things hurt karma trains and zergs hard. Keep track of a zerg and when they’re about to resup at a camp, get there, buy the doly guard upgrade and place a trap on the supply pile. Get the next “respawning” 10 supply. Leave and let the zerg cap the camp while you try to get behind them safely. Place another supply trap were they’re about to go (camp exit or at next objective). Gratulation! You just denied them up to 300 supply. This will definately lengthen their next capture attempt and buy you a lot of time to call for reinforcements or build defensives. It’s more fun to see a zerg hitting a gate and giving up because they can’t build siege than just cycle-capping camps
