Just wondering if anyone can answer the following questions:

Is it still possible/rewarding to roam in small bands or solo? Does the map design even permit such things?

Thanks…

I usually don’t go for rewards honestly lol. It’s all about fun for me.

Is it still possible to roam in small bands or solo? Yes, I do it all the time. Still am doing it. I main ranger and warrior, and though my warrior always had a hard time, I’ve still managed. With my ranger, it’s a bliss. Solo camps, take out passersby, shoot/fear them off the cliff. I have also defend tower solo/with a group of 3. They defeated us on the ending with their… delicious bait. Lol. Made us chase after these three squishies while they catapult our front wall.

Yes you can still roam. Solo, Duo, small group.

* Most NPC’s gotten a little upgrade, little bit harder
* Auto upgrade can make you stumble into upgraded camps
* Map is larger, expect to run more for objectives
* Map is larger, expect to run into less enemy players
* PvE/Ween/HoT Vacation, expect to run into less enemy players
* Camps are a bit tougher, recommend 2 players, or separate and kite npc’s
* Shrines are about same toughness as old non-upgraded camps
* Towers are much harder, I’d recommend 4 players, less the better the players are
* Easier to learn the rest of the map if you skip keeps, they are pretty complex

The benefits of solo/small groups:

  • Yaks take 5 minutes off of the upgrade timers. The more yaks you deny, the longer enemy upgrades will take.
  • Yaks still put supply into structures. If you deny supply, they won’t have as much for repair/siege.
  • Sentries cripple enemy yaks for a long time.
  • Sentries give an indication of the enemy size, so you know in advance if you or your small group can handle it.
  • If you are flipping camps, killing yaks, and flipping sentries, the enemy structures won’t fortify for several hours, leaving them weak for smaller groups to attack.
  • Shrines can be taken pretty easily and help your team if you own the keep, or deny benefits to the enemy if they control it.
  • Defending towers is easier than before because they have front and rear entrances, so you have a much better chance of getting inside alive.
  • A small group that hops on the cannons/oils at the same time can do a lot of damage to enemies at the gate of an upgraded structure.
  • Repairing doors is not fun, but there are damaged doors all over the place from laser attacks.
  • If you escort a yak, it takes hardly any damage from enemy attacks.
  • Medkits are available at sentry posts to cure conditions off of yaks.
  • I took earth keep with 2 people yesterday, air with 5, and fire with 4.

The more roaming you can do, the easier it will be for larger groups to take stuff/defend stuff. If you have no roamers, expect everything they own to get fortified pretty quick.

Joneirikb is correct. You can still find solo players, but it will be harder do to the extensive maps. A small group 3-5 is optimal now so you can take objectives when you can’t find anyone to assassinate.

Still super fun! Even more so in my opinion.

It is still possible to roam, the camps aren’t that much more difficult to solo, providing you are careful. Sentries are easy.

Anything more than that gets difficult for a single roamer or small group. The main problem is finding your way around.

I actually have found the camps and tower npc’s to be much easier to solo. However trying to get into a tower is ridiculously tedious now because unless someone is k-training the map everything will be fortified, they increased the supply cost of G-catas, locked +5 behind a pay/grind wall, and the camps are further which adds to the time spent running back and forth.

The bigger problem is the fighting has completely dried up. The majority of players are sticking to EBG which is making it even blobbier than it used to be.

Just going to quote myself another thread that brings up why it’s so hard to find small scale fights right now.

The map/mechanics have ruined roaming for me. Auto upgrades removes incentive for people to defend anything. Supply doesn’t matter so people will just sit on walls instead of fighting me for camps. The increased supply cost of G catas, the lack of +5, and everything being fortified makes solo capping things a pain in the kitten . The barricades that zergs can brush aside force roamers to take the long way around to get to anything. The gimmicky PvE mechanics discourage fighting anywhere near the keeps.
The lack of WP’s keeps people from responding to attacks on the southern part of the map, if you do actually run into someone and kill them they never bother coming back. They are actually more rewarded for back capping stuff than they are for defending. They aren’t losing wp’s, the wp’s that you get are given to you immediately instead of at T3, and they aren’t investing any time or effort into the upgrades.
