How do you play WvW???
The Resurrection rules have been changed for WvW awhile back. If you are fully dead, anyone who is in combat can not rez you anymore. They might not just be being mean.
One thing I would recommend if a good enough build to survive. I don’t know what class you’re playing or what server you’re on – but having a good build on a good “zerging” class is going to help you out a lot.
My builds are listed here: http://asphyxia.tv/builds/
I do a lot more roaming than zerging, but there are group play builds there that may help you out.
I used to play WvW pretty much as a team player. Helped the zerg, offered all the help I could, and being a mesmer, would try and hide to port them back into a objective. Revived toons even if it may of cost me my toons life. Would scout, and even baby sit an objective.
Something has happened to my server, last 2 or three times I played, when I was dead, toons would just run on by me trying to keep up with the pin, or hoping to get more bags. Thats fine. My server wants to play that way, im cool with that.
So now I simply stay in the back line, I make NO effort to help scout, or baby sit an objective, and to say I play selfish is a understatement. Things get a bit hot, well I will stealth out, and get out of the fight, and take off. I make no effort to hide any more. I simply take off if it looks like we are gonna loose the fight. I refuse to even tag up any more.
I will continue to play like that til I find a new server. Something I find a better fit, more fun. Don’t care if we “win” or “loose” all the time. This server has become to selfish, to snotty, and all they do is scream “join team speak”. Well tried that for 2 weeks and never could find anyone to “authorize” me. Seen others with the same issue.
NOPE, not mad, just kinda bummed, used to be fun to play on this server, now, its just a drag.
Agree with your points. Especially when you are still facing a server that habitually outnumbers you day after day. The only incentive are the reward tracks, in those cases. You get very little from scouting or building siege.
One thing…off topic. When you typed “loose” you meant “lose”. “Loose” means something like your shoelaces are not tied tightly…they are “loose”. For the opposite of win, it’s “lose”.
You do know that the dead can’t be revived in combat any more, right?
Indeed, this is not necessarily players being mean. Zergs cant do driveby ressing while in combat anymore. Only players not already engaged can res and choosing between keeping up with your zerg being pushed/pushing or stop to res can force a tough decision.
what server
you on
Ultimate Dominator , Diamond invader
This is exactly why we need Dbl back at least on instancr
I go in phases… sometimes I care, build/refresh siege and scout my kitten off. These days I have been running with my small fighting guild looking for fights and could care less about the score or helping other players out. I am sure when most of my guild latches onto another game in a few weeks, I will be back to running defense and helping out again.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I try to play mostly when my BAC is over 0.10. And then I just bumrush the enemy backline when the commander decides to run deep.
If you die, you have to be patient if you want people to pick you up. Usually wait for frontliners hanging back for cooldown refresh.
Don’t cry, Signet of Mercy. Others may forget you, but I will always remember.
Our deficiencies may be overcome by practice and self-discipline.
Like most aspects of the game and probably any other things, the game is best played with friends and what are most likely guildies as well as a trusted circle. It’s a quality, not quantity thing, and frankly I don’t care about anyone else. I do like recklessly trying to res people though, but that’s just something I take personal pride in.
It’s why I haven’t transferred servers even though I probably should have. I’ve developed a disdain for the PPT blowhards (and they seem to be the loudest) that don’t tolerate the fact that I have no interest in defending a t1 tower against 86 people in the lord’s room when the scouting report comes when the lord is at 25%. Of course, there’s an extreme overlap with those who talk big and don’t show up when it gets tough. (You know, PPT hard when the matchup is easy, then PPT you up to a place where there are nowhere to be seen besides scolding whoever’s in map chat). I dunno, maybe they are salty that they’re so bad at the game that they don’t even know what their skills do since the UI to them is just siege skills and have to live vicariously through someone that actually knows how to press more than just 1 and 2.
But while this sounds like a rant against people that defend and such, that’s not really true either. I actually have a lot of respect for those people that do come out every day but they also give the same respect to others. And what’s more is that they do show up regardless of us ticking +5 or +695, and that I think is something special. Sadly a lot of them left after the DBL came out which depressed me greatly but they seem to be returning.
We have a lot of guilds and friends that aren’t leaving, so I don’t leave as a result. Though frankly it always seems the grass is greener on the other side and using alt accounts have viewed a similarity among pugs at least. In the end, it’s an MMO. The quality of the game really depends on the people you play with. Don’t try to take the world on your own, and stop imagining percieved slights in a video game. Life’s way too short for that.
I mean, hey, once, as a mesmer, the commander left me in the stinky sewer hole in the enemy EB keep for like 20 minutes until he realized there was nobody to place veils. It’s just a funny story now, instead of something to be left salty about. That being said, an extra toast goes out to people that play mesmers regularly, since people expect them to be omnipotent somehow, and often to do suicidal portal tasks. I have to admit sometimes I just stay silent when someone asks for the next suicidal portal bomb. (Portals can only carry 20 people FYI)
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

I must admit I smiled when I read these replies.
As a mesmer I either roam a bit (scout, cap camps, etc) or play off the zerg finishing downed, playing with bubbles, constantly targeting the enemy comm or other fun stuff. Depends on how many decent eles are with us.
Things I don’t generally have on my bar are veil, portal etc and it’s known not to bother asking me as I’m a bit glassy. I also don’t expect anyone to go out of their way to res me. If I’m downed or out I will immediately port out to stop anyone wasting time getting me up.
Totally different when I’m on my support staff ele where the world and it’s mother (well, the decent players in the zerg, not the runaway pugs) will stop me being finished off and get me up.
Yea, like I said, I really feel like mesmers are so underappreciated; and people seem to think veil has a 0 second cooldown or something. And yea, I understand if you don’t want to be a veil or portalbot.
It also really brings up something and sometimes you really need to know what it is like in someone else’s shoes. Maybe they didn’t res you because something is about to be lost, or their group is losing or maybe there’s 20 people targeting them. They can be tied up easily and maybe they’re not helping you not to spite you. Also, it’s kind of hard to spot people in a zerg already.
Remember, reviving double downs especially with current mechanics is just not a priority especially if it may endanger the whole group.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I get on, see how many people I know are on and who wants to group roam.
If no one on, I roam alone and take parts in all aspects of WvW, zerging if a zerg strolls by, dueling if I find duelers, grouping up with pugs to flip camps, sitting at enemy keep on thief and just keep it tagged for half hour while I eat something or I go out in tonic form and make friends with the enemy…
I rez people I see down, if there is enemy around I tend to fight them off first before trying to rez unless they are in downed state.
I throw lots of siege onto enemy players who gank me and fail and sometimes for lolz I can get a Golem v Golem going with an enemy or a 1v1v1 instead of a duel (much more fun)
….. And Elementalist.
casual play. follow zerg, small group, laugh when die, gank fest
I was a team player but now when i returned i got stuck behind a normal AC doing 300 damage to player and 100 to siege.
it is supper effective since most gw2 hate effort even to beat one defender, only cap empty stuff, so much skills so much alpine style.
P.S i still prefer superior AC it makes blobs drop stuff ffaster and search more empty stuff.

As mentioned they changed the res rules for combat, you can only be ress’ed if you are down, if you are double downed then the players have to get out of combat before they can res you. Everything comes down to what the situation is, whether or not there’s a big battle around you or maybe you have an open wp nearby.
I’ve actually been in the same situation a couple times as well before the res changes, even on a night when I would port zergs into smc, I would be ignored for a res, but have to keep in mind it’s just selfish players here and there, and not the entire server. But I fully understand the let it all burn down attitude. XD
Personally I res when I can when I notice someone is down near me, sometimes when combat is over or moved a ways from me I’ll stay back and help res the double downed, just depends on what the situation is. I won’t be ressing if I’m about to get jumped on into an outnumbered fight though.

As others have said, there has been a change to raising, but, since you mentioned that this recent, (last 2 or 3 times you played) now, unless you only play once a week, there is a good chance you were being raised long after the change took place.
Now I can only speak for myself, but I raised downed and dead players all the time, if I am able, and the only times I am not able, is if I am in a fight. However, unless we are losing, I don’t just run past them either, if we are winning, I’ll circle them and try to get them up as soon as I can, especially if we are a good distance from a WP. IE: We are at an opposing keep.
If we are close to a WP, it’s far faster for them to simply WP back.
But I can’t blame someone for becoming jaded if they feel they are treated unfairly. It’s never a good feeling to have anyone treat you poorly, especially if you were trying to help them initially.
I hope things get better for you, but in the end, you gotta play in a way that works for you.
As for me, I typically run with Guild Groups, if my guild is not on, I might solo/roam, or I might go PvE, or I might log out and do something else.
are we only talking about mesmers and rez’ing? maybe this will be off topic
when i started gw2 i figured the first thing i should do is git gud. i spent a lot of time in spvp learning how to fight. a small guild picked me up a bit later and introduced me to wvw. I had no idea what was going on and so i just followed our guild leader flipping camps and skirmishing.
this soon evolved into fighting all night in the obsidian sanctum and i further honed my skills. life eventually called my guild mates away to boring things like children and careers so I went into wvw on my own.
i became interested on these thief players who called themselves zerg trackers. we followed the enemy zergs around ebg reporting their movements to our commanders who would intercept them. to do this well we had to stay very close to the enemy zergs and stragglers (usually warriors) would constantly fall back to try and kill us. we had to learn how to murder these suckers very quickly or lose sight of the enemy blobs.
later i became interested in how siege worked. other players would put trebs in 3rd floor smc and hit towers they couldnt even see. I asked around alot for any help on how to learn this stuff but it was a mystery Id have figure out on my own. I built a lot of trebs in those days.
then season 2 was upon us and everything went to kitten. some time after this i started commanding for about a year and half.
these days though its a mix of everything. the server im on now is pretty friendly. theres about a 50% chance of getting a rez, better than most servers ive been on. i sometimes build siege and scout but its not as effective as it was in the old days. alot more fighting and fun stuff. ppt was fun in the bronze leagues but thats all gone now.
I find that most pugs on my server are pretty eager to res people, actually. More so than some of the diehard WvWers I see every day and who often only tend to look after ‘their own’. I’m fine with the latter too. I mean, it does annoy me sometimes if I just got ganked and I haven’t waypointed yet, no enemy in sight anymore and three allies pass by without even looking at me, but if that’s how they wanna play then that’s their right I guess. I’ll admit that there are a couple of names I’ll recognize as people who always do this and when I see them dead I’ll just leave them, too. That said, it happens to me too sometimes that I see someone getting ganked and I really am in a hurry to get to a t3 structure with a full blob of enemies and five rams knocking on the gate. I tend to feel a little guilty when I just leave them behind and they die, but it’s nothing personal. I usually always stop and try to help if I can. Unfortunately with me there’s a bigger chance of me being in the way and rallying your target, because I’m not very good, but I still try when I see allies in trouble (or dead xD ). I also often try to get out of combat during big fights to res people if we’re nowhere near a waypoint.
I do see that some people play the game in a selfish way, but it’s not really my thing. I enjoy helping where I can. I consider everyone from my server one of my own and as long as they’ve never given me a reason to hate their guts, I will try to help in whatever way I can. It’s not always effective, but it’s usually appreciated, so then it’s worth it to me. xD
By running off cliffs … And dying.
By following a little too close to the enemy blob … And dying.
By yolo jumping into a sea of angry red folks to break up their stacking buffs … and dying.
By duelling to work on skills … And getting downed.
And by typing roughly 96 wpm at all times … Dead or not
