How does scaleing work in WvW?
The level is automatically adjusted to 80 to compensate to create an even starting position, your stats are adjusted to base levels. This is to keep you from being one shotted during every encounter, imagine fighting a lvl 80 with a lvl 10 in pve, insta death, same in wvw. However your stats, gear, food/booster buffs etc all matter and therefore a lvl 80 will do more damage then a lvl 10 because they can use higher lvl gear.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Basically you’re buffed to the point that you can contribute. But not to the point that you can run around with impunity as if you are an actual level 80 with full exotics.
If you were running in full exotic gear that was the same as your level, and provided a full 3-stat combination, you might be comparable to a lv 80. But chances are you are using greens that are 5-10 levels below you, and those don’t scale well. Or in your case, probably blues/whites, which would be even worse. Also you have no traits and can’t use lv 80 food.

If that’s the intention it doesn’t work well.
The #1 rule I tell people who are doing WvW as an uplevel is to make sure your gear is up to date! This is because of how the scaling works. Generally, if you are wearing green gear of your level it will be scaled up to as if you were wearing level 80 green gear. If your gear is significantly below you, you will suffer huge disadvantages as a result as that gear won’t behave like level 80 equivalents.
Of course you will never truly be as powerful as an actual level 80, because you’re missing so many traits and very likely have limited choice of utility skills as well.
Scaling is pretty interesting. If your gear is all up to date, you can make a lvl 2 hit REALLY hard with the upscaling.
However, many people like to make “Twinks” which are upscaled heroes that are outfitted in lvl 65 or 70 gear to fight with that can take advantage of some of the scaling.
