I’m not playing the game since the stability nerf/HoT realease, i recently relogged to see how things are going and i’m quite sad on the results.
My server (seafarer’s rest) used to be on the top list and now is dead, i feel like the devs were more focused on making a “cool” pvp while literally killing wvw and letting his corpse to rot.
I used to enjoy this game a lot, but i hoped that wvw was followed better than pvp, i mean in europe during the world tournament it was fantastic: best hours of my life ever played!
Am i the only one who notices this downgrade? Can Anet bring back the old stability just for wvw or increase some abilities stacks (like balanced stance that gives only 2 stacks) or reduce the devastating potential of 3+ static fields (they can literally stun and kill a whole blob if not used properly) or similar skills?
I’d give anything to have the days of the second wvw season back.

Stability has been changed so you can only remove a single stack every x seconds regardless of cc that hits you. In a way, that have undone their damage to the melee train. The melee train exists again.

oh i lost that thing, thanks it really changes a lot to me, i’m glad they did it still sad for my server death but i think it can be brought back to life with some work, now what about population? I see less people on La and in maps in general, have so many left after HoT?

Well i liked blobbing when it was organized, on sfr almost the whole server was on ts for coordinated wvw, it was amazing.
Random karma trains like eotm aren’t enjoyable at all.

Balance is the worst it’s ever been, by miles; particularly so in small scale.
And even the blob meta is pretty horrible.

I, too, am hoping for a proper RvR game at this point.

oh well i’m not going to say that was balanced: wvw was terribly unbalanced and needed a lot of work, unfortunately it wasn’t the dev focus so nobody kinda worked towards it’s improvement, at least it was fun…..i too hope for a rvr focused game but gw had that potential and it was, in my modest opinion, wasted, that’s a pity.

Well, to be honest the game is nowhere in quality what it use to be as far as population, roaming, and guilds.

They had to merge servers to make up for empty servers and contemplated getting rid of the desert BL entirely. That speaks volumes at the state of the game and direction they are going.

Now, we have a great boon/resistance meta to deal with and it forces one style of play ruining diversity. I’m not sure what they are going to do or they even care to move forward but the longer they let it continue the more wvw declines.

You’re just going to have to find your happy place in wvw, there’s little spots left. Or you wait till the next mmo who feeds off the mistakes of anet and learns from them.

I’m just gonna try to answer your general “what is WvW like these days” question.
Having been on sfr for a very long time as well I recently transfered to Kodash to play with some rl friends again.
Basically what I would say is…the game can be very fun during prime. Outside of that it’s getting rather difficult (but not entirely impossible). Nightcapping is still very dominant and you’ll very easily get outnumbered in off-prime time. (And forget about roaming. There is no honor left in this gamemode and people are just ganking wherever they can)
Since I’m guessing you’ve still got the old sfr mentality that all you want is a good fight I’d say there are still possibilities, but nothing really changed over the years besides a decrease in WvW guilds maybe. If you’ve got an organised zerg with a great commander that is known across the community with everyone on teamspeak you are gonna have a great time. If you are lucky you’ll actually meet enemies that will be willing to fight you and give you some nice battles, but often times they are just starting to run/port away from you after losing a couple of fights and only start hidind behind siege.
French servers didn’t change a lot. You may very rarely find a good fight but overall it’s just a like the old Vizunah with less siege and maybe less care about hardcore ppt. (These days they may not defend their spawn camp for 2 hours and there may be only 49 instead of 50 ac’s inside a keep, but they definitely still have the instant-ac-build-mastery that I still need to figure out how to get my hands on) Besides that from the limited experience I’ve gained in the past few weeks Baruch Bay is really quite similar to that, Fsp gave some really good fights but is also blobbing like hell due to being linked with 2 more servers so you can really only fight them during prime (But still kudos for their spirit). If I recall correctly Deso also gave a good fight every now and then but that’s about all the experience I’ve gained so far.
So there are still a few servers that prefer to go for fights and there are still many servers that are afraid to lose a battle so they need 10 ac’s or twice your numbers.

Fighting didn’t really change a lot from the old days since pirateship is gone. (For reference I’m actively playing Guard, War and Nec right now) Meele is quite strong again but when changing your backliner from zerker to maraudeur you can also survive pretty well. Overall it depends a lot on the commanders playstyle and his ability to adapt. A strong necro bomb can bring you a long way but I’ve also had commanders that push straight through chokes back and forth, leaping away from their backline like they’ve got 40/50 meeles while like 40% of the squad consisted of necros. So overall I feel like fights aren’t particularily unbalanced in a way that paintrain is completely op or pirateship is the only way to go. But meele train is a lot easier to execute due to the tanky nature. Also that hardcore mentality kind of toned down and people are just looking to find fun in a couple fights so they aren’t playing diehard serious.

So basically if your playtime is focused a lot around prime time (and a bit wider during weekend) you’ll still find some nice fights and it may be worth a transfer (But as I said I don’t exactly know what server may be best suited for this). For what you will go up against…let’s say if you’ve lived through old Vizunah nothing will shock you these days.

WvW systems have never been this good: world links, reward tracks, better stability, skirmishes, better squads, some UI changes and more to come.
WvW balance is pretty bad: the meta is brainless and boring.
WvW population is hit or miss: way less skilled guilds around, more blobs instead. I don’t know how EU is, but NA most servers are quite well balanced for once in their own tiers but theres one or two servers that imploded/raised that no one accounted for before the new links.

it’s just full of glory hunters now, everyone is transferring to the “winning” server which is made eaiser via server linking. I guess people find queuing for 1-2 hours to spawn camp an outnumbered server fun.

I get better more balance fights in eotm so when im not in pvp that is where i spend my time.

Most of the systems have improved (rewards, population, scoring) but the combat is the worse it has ever been. Only numbers matters, in roaming certain class completely destroy other classes. Skilled group fights are something of the past except for a very few guilds that are still trying even if the meta that doesn’t reward skillful play.

- Rewards are way better because they actually exist.
- Scoring is better in theory, but I think needs more time to see how things pan out in the long term.
- Population still problematic and I don’t think this will ever be solved until servers are dissolved.
- Upgrading in WvW is inferior to what it used to be because all player influence on structure upgrades has been removed, supply as a resource has been diminished and you cannot hold and upgrade a camp without owning neighbouring structures. Basically there’s less to actually do in WvW now.
- New map is a real mixed bag. The objectives are interesting enough in isolation (except Air Keep which still needs work) but there’s no cohesion to the objectives as a whole, so owning one objective has little to no tactical value for taking or holding the others. Plus the central map event has gone down the route of the old ABL orbs and has vanished.
- Combat in WvW is absolutely bonkers and utterly broken. Blobbing is the same but small group roaming is horrible and absolutely dominated by whatever specs have the most outrageous damage AND sustain at the same time. It used to be so much better and far more exciting.

GW2 has 2 things over all the other games of this type.

1. Ease of getting into WVW. As many complaints as there are about ascended, foods, etc. These things are nothing when compared to the crap you find in other games. Add to that the grind in other games is multiplied x10 to x100. If you go the route of SPVP amulet system, it gets away too much from an MMORPG setting and enters realm of MOBAs, which becomes another reason to quit, not play GW2 and WVW.

2. Combat system. Its very fluid, flexible, allows for different tactics and group strategies. Yea, right now its borked with boonshare, but overall its still the best in the market by leaps and bounds.

So any upcoming game needs to beat these 2 things in order for me to switch permamently. And due to releases of some recent games which I have tried and came back to GW2, I will hold my judgement and won’t even give them a try until after considerable time has passed so I can get accurate feedback about them to have a good idea if its even worth it in the 1st place. Don’t want to spend $$ on something just to be back in GW2.

Small scale is arguably the worst it has ever been.

That said, the small scalers left see the decay all around them and are much friendlier to each other and more willing to have some fun having fights.

Still, there are a lot of broken things around that really wreck enjoyment and it can be a struggle to play when you meet broken stuff after broken stuff. Maybe some context, some of the top havok guilds are running on condi mains now. Kinda says it all really.

If you’ve broken the addiction to this pretty mediocre game I would recommend not getting back into it.

thus why im not fan of server linking also since the less populated servers sometimes have more interesting fights then the brainless blob fights.
even tho did move to FSP to join up some friends a year ago or something still missing the old small scale fights in FoW tho but thats all over since everything is linked nowadays >.<.

Personally I’m having a great time. I have tried out Thief, Warrior, and Mesmer and really enjoyed all three of them. I find that the fights are reasonably diverse and while there are certainly blob vs. blob fights that I like getting involved in, there are still quite a bit of things to do for a small group. Some classes could use a balance pass including PU Condi Mesmers, but overall I’m feeling like I have a valid chance in each engagement.

I would like to see some more valid leadership roles. As it stands right now, Guardians are kind of the kings of leading blobs. I have a commander tag from back when I first started shortly after the game came out, but I feel like I shouldn’t really use it as I can’t provide as much utility as a Mesmer or Warrior. That being said, it’s really a good time for me.

I think if you get heavily involved “forum pvp”, it might change your pespective. I know for me, if I just play to have fun then I enjoy it. If you try to take a game seriously, it seems that you might have a worse time overall.

Most said its good,so i just add myself to em.Linking despite some side effects is great.Balance is quite good aswell.Maps,we got desert back in rotation which i find nice,i got bored of alpine pretty fast.And most important at least for me,you dont need to worry about ppt anymore,thanks to linking,you wont end up in empty matchups,so gg to anet for solving so many problems with one fix.

I personally dont like siege wars or blob wars but thats part of wvw since i started to play it,so i guess i have to live with it.Other than that WvW is still great.I would say pve and pvp is funn aswell and its worth coming back and re-trying it all.

And yeah,if you read just forums it might look like its terrible,but am still having great time in gw2 in every game mode.

Balance is “okay” in the rock-paper-scissors sense in the confines of HoT-only play based on the meta for each profession. The game isn’t even closed to what I’d call fair between dominant builds, but rather more or less a mix of counters. In essence, what caused sPvP to fail is now in WvW. And now WvW is failing in its small-scale as a result.

Any small deviations away from high-tier build play, which mostly consists of overly-durable boon-and-CC-heavy builds for no reason, and it’s immediately by far and large the worst it’s ever been. Dont like your elite spec or HoT gear? Pretty much sucks to be you; it’s required or you lose. There are so few viable alternative options that I’ve simply given up trying to find interesting fights and also rerolled my profession after three and a half years of making a low-function build succeed well. ANet has continuously nerfed the underpowered builds more and buffed the stronger ones further to enforce a stable meta, which by all technical game design standards, is considered a horrible, horrible practice. It’s so bad on so many professions and builds that I’ve simply given up trying to have fun in WvW, and have definitely given up on small scale. The same is said for my whole guild, which when returning from the removal of DBL, also quit promptly again from the imbalance and simple lack of fun, and even more loyal members to the game who continued to log in are faltering quickly and logging off upset (myself included) day after day because of the obvious lack of diversity and intrigue in the game at the moment. The fights are all the same, and most notably, the fights aren’t fun.

The reason that they added the stability patch and aren’t going back is because they had to compensate for HoT elite specs. Now every class has ONE or MULTIPLE forms to CC individuals or groups where as before that was not the case. If they go back to the old stability you will be stun locked for days.

I typically try to roam with a small group for a bit in T2, blobs definitely hunt you down, especially TC. Havoc is sorta dying out as well and I wonder how it is in T3/4 currently.

The lag is getting worse IMO, I can be on the other side of the map 1 v camp and feel it.
