Q:
How is thief (daredevil) in WvW?
A:
Rule #1 Play what you enjoy.
Thief is very good at roaming, but not very good at zerging. The problem here is that Roaming generally require more out of the player than zerging.
But for roaming they are very good, great/best mobility, lots of access to stealth, and decent damage. The main problems are that Thieves are very squishy and generally dies if they’re caught, so you have to learn to use your active defenses constantly to keep alive (stealth, blind, dodge, evade etc).
Pistol + Pistol, Don’t know how well that will work in general WvW, depends on your other weapon set I guess. I’m a bit out of the meta, so I’ll let others talk more about builds.
Thief is a very fun class to play, really enjoy it myself. It can be an absolute kitten to play against however.
“Understanding is a three edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth.”
“The objective is to win. The goal is to have fun.”
Warrior is more useful in a general gameplay perspective. You can zerg or roam very well with it just by tweaking some traits and gear.
Thief however isn’t as flexible. It’s limited capabilities of taking on several enemies and low health pool makes thief a very poor fighter in zerg fights. They do however perform really nicely in roaming where you’re likely to have smaller scale fights and thief superior mobility (coupled with stealth) can really take you out of sticky situations.
It comes to what you intent to do in WvW.
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
Thief is generally poor in sPvP (it doesn’t hold a point well). Thieves are mostly horrible in zergs and skirmish crews. Some Venom Share builds are passable in larger scale but not by much.
For roaming they are good since they can clear camps, move fast, avoid large groups and scout well. They typically aren’t strong in 1v1 fights against decent players. They are excellent gankers though which is how they are mostly played in WvW. If you like blowing weak or injured players up and running away… this is the class for you.
P/P generally under performs but I do use it as the cornerstone of both my condi and power builds but my builds are pretty oddball.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Hopefully what the above posters are trying to say is ’ low health pool fragile characters do not do well in heavily targeted areas". Thief like others has weaknesses.
Be aware of the weaknesses.
That said, Thief remains a more than useful roamer.
Please play as you enjoy. My advice would be to play as many professions as you can personally stomach, it teaches you a lot about how to roam vs those same professions.
