How is your server's WvW community?
How many servers are you looking at? If it’s not too many, you can make a few free accounts, level thru crafting/buying dungeon runs, and check them out. It’ll cost you a bit of gold, but might be the best way to see what fits for you.

I’d recommend going to www.gw2wvw.net and just reading the forum match threads to get an idea of server, um, personality.
What you see in those threads, trolls aside, is pretty much what you’ll see in map chat.
Match up thread on gw2wvw.net are not really representative of a server community. Far from it.
To get a better feel you should try to find the server forum, enter their TS to talk to a few of them and/or get an account (f2p?) on that server to see how the map is.
Personally, I would not ignore the guilds either because they form that community and chance are that you will join one sooner rather than later. Better make sure that there is one that fit your style.
I’ve been on many different servers in NA (6) and EU(4). My experience has been that those threads are pretty representative.
I would guess most Servers would say they are friendly and all that, have public tags, organized community TS, that they’re open to different players play-styles and Guilds etc.
You probably won’t be able to truly tell what server suits you, unless you have friends or have a 2nd account to try it out, better to experience things first hand to see if it’s to your standards.
That site mainly shows that other servers don’t like each other that much, otherwise IMO it’s pretty quiet on the EU side.

I’ve been on:
Dragonbrand, Jade Quarry, Desolation (EU), Seafarer’s Rest (EU), Isle Of Janthir, Yak’s Bend, Ferguson’s Crossing, Kaineng, Crystal Desert and Darkhaven in that order.
Things to note from the server’s I’ve been on:
Dragonbrand has a poor community and aren’t very good on the open field. They rely too heavily on their SEA blob.
JQ are strong as players but have a lot of rude players.
I hated Desolation. Period.
Seafarer’s Rest had a lot of nice people and decent players. Mind you they were mostly a blob server.
IOJ was getting spawn camped every day when I was on it which was at the time it was having it’s exodus so anything I have to say about IOJ is pretty much irrelevant at this point.
YB was pretty nice when I was there which was before they got all the transfers. I only left because I hated Fort Aspenwood so much. YB had okay fighters but as many people say they tend to siege hump a lot. Just don’t be fooled by the exaggerations. They do use a lot of siege but it’s not as over the top as some of their haters will have you believe.
Ferguson’s Crossing had one of the best communities I’ve been a part of. Super nice people, very enjoyable to be around. Unfortunately it was also a heavily fair weather server. People only came out to fight when they felt like it which meant they were going to be perpetually stuck in a low tier.
Kaineng was fun for roaming. A lot of independent players on that server. Even when tags were up people would prefer to roam. The community was okay but a certain guild that I shall not name had a lot of toxic players.
Crystal Desert was horrible. The worst server I’ve been on hands down. I cannot say anything good about it at all. Bad players, terrible community, mostly immature teenagers. Don’t go there.
And DH which I’m on now is my new home, hopefully forever. I’ve never been more happy with a transfer and I don’t ever plan on leaving unless something serious happens. DH has an amazing community, fun, loving people with lots of great humor. Chat is always a blast to read and participate in. Great fighters, even PUGs can wipe full guilds with even numbers. Lots of dedicated roamers and dedicated guilds, great commander’s… It just has everything one could want. I’d almost say it’s a shame we’re not in a higher tier but at the same time I think we’re right where we belong. Where there are still challenges to be had and not tons of bandwagons. Still, if you want a great place to go, come to Darkhaven. I haven’t been on every server but I’ve been on enough of them to know that DH is by a long shot the best place to be.

Well the CD hate is real lol, idk what happened to this guy but CD is like any other server in the game. It has its nice players and its trolls, good players and bad ones. One thing you have to know is that every server has its up and downs, one month a server could be the best place ever and the next month it could be the most toxic in the game(DH had its own drama a few months back don’t let this guy fool you). http://crystal-desert.com/index.php if you just want some plain truth about the active community of CD.
On another note SBI,MAG,CD are in a community made fights tier(Tier3) so all the top guilds are here and competition is fierce, many guilds and players get broken because they cant handle it so unless you are into hardcore raiding and want to fight the best I would not come here.

DH is a good server but you all are about to be stuck in a really crappy match up with DB and SF where you will be starved for fights. For those of us that have been playing for years, winning and losing doesn’t really mean much anymore, but certain servers go out of their way to avoid fighting and chest thump about capping empty towers which leads to incredibly boring matches. I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes.

Why? Why all the server swapping? If anything this shows the problems we have in WvW that people move about so much so to label a server is surely pointless as it can be a completely different place very quickly.
Oh and though I have been on (EU) UW from the start I have a love hate relationship with it. Sometimes UW is like herding cats, but then other times its like the loyalist dog. I guess its a bit bipolar.

Probably to keep from burning out on the game. I still have an account on AR which is my home server because I have a lot of friends there and it’s a good community but I have a second account that I move around to find fresh fights and keep the game interesting. Without that I would likely have quit the game by now.

EU bois hype
Aurora Glade, Gandara, Gunnar’s Hold, Seafarer’s Rest, Desolation, Piken Square, Far Shiverpeaks and Kodash[De] (Riverside[De] for 1 night only lol)
Aurora Glade: Original server, probably nicest people you’ll find as long as you don’t disagree with them. They’re basically like the Children of the Corn, be a child with them or get sacrifice to some Corn God called Guildzebub.
Gandara: Great people, relaxed atmosphere 9/10 times. Got a bit toxic towards new commanders.
Seafarer’s Rest: Never again. Never in my life have I experience such a toxic pathetic group of people. Most of the time mapchat was vile towards people playing the actual game. There’s even currently a player called “Deso Fkers” that came from SFR on Desolation. He’s building Alpha Golems with Keep supplies and suiciding them off cliffs. epic community rite?
Gunnar’s Hold: Nice people. Still oldschool though.
Desolation: Current server. Turning into a cesspool due to the nice people leaving and the PPT-only players taking control. (PPT-only as in, if you aren’t facerubbing a door for the tick you should exit WvW immediately)
Piken Square: Eh, I enjoyed my time there. Nice people.
Far Shiverpeaks: Current EU big boss. Stacked to the brim with the best players in EU. If you dispute it you’re wrong. Nice relaxed people, would go to again 10/10
Kodash[De]: Very friendly germans! Have to say, I enjoyed my time there more than the other 7 servers I’ve been to. Can’t even speak german myself.
More liek a rant than a description of the communities.

You should have asked “What’s your server’s WvW community like when you play?”
Then if you wanted to know about transferring you should have said FULL servers need not respond.

These self appointed ‘top guilds’ have as many scrubs as every other guild in the game.
Like everyone else, they get smashed by blobs and fair poorly when caught roaming around (I’m sure having their little commie guild build makes them extra squishy).
I only left because I hated Fort Aspenwood so much.
A much more interesting question in this forum would be “Why do you hate another server?” After all, servers are random collections of groups of players.
I personally have played on servers that would be considered a target of hate for FA players: TC, SOS, and YB.
When you challenge your own personal feelings and preconceptions, you pretty quickly realize the fallacy of your hate. (Unless you are one of those people who never think critically and grow.) I won’t say all server communities are the same just like not all guilds are the same, only that server communities all face the same issues.

Funny thing, becouse one thing that dont exist in this game is Top Guilds, with the exception of a top gw1 guild that comes to gw2 will still be a top guild.
Even so i would not believe that they would stay that longer…..
For what i heard and see, NSP comunity is the most stable, still might be the smallest or one of the smallest at this time.
I’ve been on Ehmry Bay since the start of the game. I have no plans to leave.
Currently we are rank #12, right in the middle of the pack and have had a number of guilds transfer to us recently.
I remember the days back with guilds like [pk], [Void], and others and how we were a very strong server to match up against. I also remember days when we were bottom of the barrel and it seemed like we were going to be stuck there for some time.
I remember the days when we went through a giant bought of drama when guilds left us to try out higher tiered servers.
But I also know those days are behind us. We have an incredible core of people who have also been on Ehmry Bay since the beginning. We have guilds that were once a part of us, returning. And we have new ones transferring because they’ve heard of the little drama and friendly atmosphere of the server. [TV], [PS], and [Rekz] to name a few.
I think the biggest selling point for this server, is frankly, loyalty. You just have some people that will never leave, good or bad, getting stomped or rolling.
Come give the Bay a try. www.ehmry.com
I’m on NSP since launch. One of the mosts stable if not the most stable server outside of T1 since launch. I pretty much play with the same people for almost 3 years now. We all know each other very well. We have drama sometime but the server usually get over it. NSP as a bit of everything.(Guilds, commanders, solo roamers and everything in between.)
The only thing we really don’t have is a sea/ocx crew but on the good side it keep us balanced since we really have a good euro/us pop.
Same here. Never had the desire to switch so ever since launch I’ve stuck with NSP. There’s a little bit of everything here it seems from a few core fight guilds, pugmanders, havoc squads, roamers, and even the occasional group of roaming quaggas. The community is great, never had a problem with anything here, and people are free to pretty much do their own thing.
Should probably make use of the free accounts and check out some servers.
Check out the server forums and see what type of discussions are going on.
Hop onto the server TS and check out how many are online during your time, and how many are in public channels.
Do not take the other forum that people are mentioning seriously, because they truly do not represent their community, a lot of times they’re just the couple trolls on the server trying to get into the pvf drama. You’re not going to find out how good a community is from that forum lol.

“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
I have to agree with what some others have said. Been playing on and off since launch. Ive been on GOM, AR, CD, SBI, SOR, EBAY and really they all seem about the same. The only real difference is how many people are there.
But just to stick up for CD even though i am currently trying to kill them since i am on SBI at the moment, i have no idea what the poster earlier on is talking about. Everyone that i ran into or played with while on CD was really cool and laid back. A guild or 2 would get grumpy if you tried to blob up their guild raid but that was about it.
Anywho every server has cool people and chuckleheads.

Nothing happened to me, it’s just experience. I’ve logged a ton of hours in to this game, most of it in WvW. Yes it’s all just personal opinion which doesn’t make it right or wrong but I did not enjoy CD what so ever. There was a noticeably high volume of immature players and most times they couldn’t win a fight without outnumbering their opponents. If you want to be offended by my opinion, which you seem to be, go right ahead. It’s not going to change my mind on thinking CD is awful, nor is it going to change the mind of my friend who moved there and agreed with me that it’s awful and wishes he had listened to me when I said “don’t go there.”
Why? Why all the server swapping?
Because I haven’t been comfortable with most of the servers I’ve been on. I’ve moved around looking for a good happy medium between zerging and roaming, good community and strong players. Most of the servers I’ve been on have only had one or a few of the things I was looking for. I’m not in a guild, so it’s not like I’m bandwagoning with people, I’ve just moved around a lot looking for a good place to call my home. I wanted a server I had fun on while still feeling like I was contributing.
A much more interesting question in this forum would be “Why do you hate another server?” After all, servers are random collections of groups of players.
I personally have played on servers that would be considered a target of hate for FA players: TC, SOS, and YB.

I agree to an extent. They are random collections of players but that doesn’t change the fact that different servers have different cultures. WvW is not a mega-server system. Veteran players become familiar with each other and habits and strategies form. Just a simple example is that most Jade Quarry players call a commander tag a “pin” instead of a tag. There are noticeable differences between servers when fighting them or being on them if you know what to look for. I hated FA because they had a lot of guild group roamers and few solo roamers. Me, being primarily either a PUG zergling or a solo roamer, got fed up really quickly with constantly being ganked by FA guild groups when roaming. So I left YB because I wasn’t able to accomplish anything solo roaming which is something I really enjoy doing.

Devona’s Rest really should just be shut down or merged in with eradon terrace. DR has no wvw community. There are a couple pug commanders and a few really really small guilds. Reset night we try to make an apperance usually get steam rolled by the third server that isn’ ET then pretty much make no showing the rest of the week and ET now even beats us in score. Have to many guildmates that are not gonna pay gems to transfer so I have been offically screwed for awhile now. We are still considered a Medium population server though lol thanks anet.

Well I’ve only been on 2 Whiteside Ridge and Gunnar’s Hold.
WSR: Nice community, nice people, shame it’s had 3 or 4 exodus’s of WvW population leaving the WvW population depleted and eventually the community depleted as people took breaks. It’s flip flopping between T8 and T9 so that gives you a good idea of how little WvW action there is outside prime time. I have a friend who flipped keeps solo because the populations are so low.
Gunnar’s: Pretty good, would recommend it. They have some really great guilds that run events like morning coffee raid, rock and roll reset, they try to do server vs server and have some good characters. Always people to fight being mid silver and certainly worth a look on a free account as higher tier servers give more loot bags and keeps you on your toes.
Here’s on of our guilds [So] gives you an idea of what it’s like. A little outnumbered but generally fun.

One thing to consider puck is both Dh and DB have gotten boat loads of transfers since you last saw us (Dh hit high population and Db too but they got a lot more transfers as well). While Db still isn’t the greatest server to face, the guild they brought over from FA make it better. T5 is probably the size of T4 now, Db is possibly bigger than HoD and Dh possibly bigger than NSP, so it’s not all bad in fights anymore. The problem is the 3rd server basically has nothing to do but backcap while Db and Dh blob each other.
What drama in specific are you referring to on Dh? We have a SMALL amount of drama atm, but we didn’t die because of drama… we died because we were a full server. Dh had very little drama a few months ago. The only real drama you encounter on Dh is squabbles over whether to use old or new ts, and both crowds generally leave each other alone.

FSP has a fun and relaxed community. Been here for around two and half years and it has always been a blast, haven’t seen any drama here for a long time
What are some of you doing that you have been on so many servers?
Why are people transferring so many times?
How long have you been away from some of those servers that you can suggest you have any concept of the current community?

I’m not sure the reason for others transferring so many times but for myself I’ve transferred a lot because as I’ve said, I was looking for a good happy medium between my preferences. Since I’m guildless, I’m free to go where ever I please. All of the servers I’ve been on until DH have been missing something I was looking for. Admittedly, I’m picky with what I consider a “good” server but as always, that’s just personal opinion and preference.
I agree with the last statement however. Most of the servers I’ve been on I’ve been away from for a long time. The last time I was on Dragonbrand was almost two years ago. The communities could be and probably are totally different now. Still, the impressions I got from them stay the same and what I know about them is how I feel about them.

I’ve been on DR a long time and recent months have gotten pretty rough with guilds transferring out. It’s getting tough even for roamers and small guilds when it’s typically 10 vs 35. IMO – The bottom 6 servers in NA should be merged and you’d still be lucky to be competitive in Silver.
Most folks are just hanging on to see what happens with the HoT expansion and influx of players.
Or as an option, make tranfers free across the board for a month to see how things shake out. Would be interesting…

unless merging those server miraculously gave them off hours coverage they would still get destroyed in silver.

This.
It would essentially just be a EotM’ish variant of bronze.

“The objective is to win. The goal is to have fun.”
My guild originally came from DH, and we had some fun times in wvw there, back before people knew what a guard line was and such:D We left while transfers were free due to a lot of the other wvw guilds looking for more wvw focused servers, hoping to be more competitive.
We ended up in BG (tried CD but that wasn’t quite what we wanted) before server transfers started having a cost, and I’ve personally enjoyed it quite a bit. It has been a good community to me, though the guild I’m in has always been a little more fun oriented.
Every server will have their bad apples, some will have louder apples, so you see it more readily, but ever server has good apples, just gotta find em:)
My only suggestion: Find the guild with likeminded people, that you enjoy playing with and talking to, and you will find the server you want to be part of.

Hey, thanks for explaining your personal reasons and view.
I gathered there would be different reasons for different posters. Some appeared to have been on more them half the servers in their region, so it really makes me curious as to the reasoning. I know some people are just plan restless, and like to change for the sake of change itself. Hopefully a few more folks will chime in with their answers as well.

Dragonbrand is neatly unified under our global irritation with Darkhaven poke crews, because we’re up against Darkhaven literally every week for months at a time.
As for our most infamous feature, the massive SEA crew stealing everything while the rest of the world sleeps, I have no idea.
I’m from TC it’s gone from a ripe sweet juicy fruit that you would love to take a bite out of to a really sour gone off moldy fungus filled bitter husk xD if i had money/gold i’d transfer lol but i don’t so…

Just be on the winning team is a must for many people. Look at FSP sure they have massive good players many came from other Servers SFR/DESO and so on. Now they are very good and will get the new SFR or old Vizunah, when the next Season beginns.
Many players want it easy and on FSP you have it easy, even if they dont play for point you can get bags in no time if you are in an EBG Blob on top the Server is free for Transfer

Atleast at primetime we might get to play and have some fun though instead of try to solo flip waypointed keeps.
Sorrows Furnace seems to be a good server now for WvW. Some Guilds from HoD recently transferred in due to the toxic atmosphere caused by a few of the DB immigrants (always bad apples in new groups, these few are just exceptionally rotten). Also HoD is making strides in rebuilding its community and trying to work around the narsissitic individual who seems to think he is Emperor of HoD. Be warned that mapchat and TS can be colorful and juvenile on both servers, but few trolls (mostly a few commanders that like to blame their failures on followers) exist.
Lmao @ everyone hugging DH like it’s the greatest server ever. I’ve never had so many people try to curse me out through whispers after they either lost a 4v2 or just lost a 1v1 in seconds. Their WvW is full of trash players, maybe a decent guild or 2 for fights. Trash roamers, 1 decent roaming guild that still has to 3v1 people at the bare minimum (and still gets easily upset when someone (1 or 2)v3’s them and calls them out about winning it). Out of several months (about 17 separate weeks) of match-ups with them I’ve only met a few people (3-4 at the most) who were cool to whisper back and forth with—a.k.a. no salt, no immature retaliation (which describes a majority of the server when they lose). Never played on the server, never plan to; seems to be full of disillusioned kids who make the most out of the smallest things, {i.e. “Our WvW k/d is 1.2 and we’re beating the other 2 servers, (disregarding the fact that 18+ hours a day our server outnumbers both other servers so we just have roaming groups that get easy kills for those 18 hours. But when we meet up with a server with fight guilds online we get wiped 9 times out of 10 unless we double their size.)”}
Trash server, trash players (for the most part). I still don’t know why people join the server, maybe the name just sounds cool when they sign up, I don’t know. But I’ve met enough people who left the server because of the reasons I’ve mentioned and a considerable amount of other reasons. Never met a different server (including guilds from Darkhaven) that likes Darkhaven players as a whole.

If you don’t want to always join the winning team I’d recommend seafarers rest.
There are not so many people because bandwagoners left but you still get good quality fights with what is left, which is what I love about this server. You don’t always run away. Maybe when you are outnumbered 2v1 but many coms will even engage this one. You got nothing to lose right? But you can get them sweet baggies. Ofc we are also blobbing like any other server, but you can mostly expect a good player quality especially since there are only the old and experienced players left now and they are what makes this community so great. This is the 3rd time sfr goes down but loyal people stay with it.
And you have many guilds to join and fight with. It’s not all about blobs.
Bandwagoners kept the server on top and enforced blobs. But the heart of sfr has always been around guilds and quality over quantity. And yes, we do think we are better than everyone else so don’t be surprised You can’t do your best if you don’t think you are the best.
Just my personal experience here.
All we wanted was a GvG.
