How much does Asc. gear matter in roaming?
Silentshoes (Thief), Wind of the Woods (condi ranger)
I know, some of you have easily beaten unskilled players who are wearing ascended gear. But no one can say with authority how common those are.

I have been playing sPvP since the beginning, and I have forgotten that in WvW fights, you can meet many people who have ascended gear that is more powerful than you have.
Shades of Wow and Rift.
I saw a condi mesmer spec with ascended and 2600 condition damage.
Now, if I am fighting him with 1700, I am at a disadvantage that is tough to overcome if he is skilled as well, right?
The difference between a full set of ascended gear and a full set of exotic is going to be a couple hundred on the major stat, and less on the minor stats. The difference doesn’t even begin to approach the 900 stat difference you cited.
Now, while a couple hundred stats is significant, it’s far less significant than the effects of player skill. All else being equal, the person with more stats wins, but very minor differences in skill level between the two players rapidly cause the stat difference to be irrelevant.
Remember that there are so many other factors at play that it is impossible to say if it mattered.
Criticals, positioning, player skill I reckon play more of a factor than ascended/exotic stat differences.
it doesn’t matter all that much as there are many other elements that skew the balance.
as soon as the Bloodlust buffs are not split 1-1-1, one of the players will have a stat advantage anyway.

It is significant but beatable. The main problem is in ascended weapons which have a higher base damage than exotic. That base damage is amplified by the multipliers making an ascended weapon hit noticeably harder on crit builds.
Good news is jewelry is easy to get just takes time. The back piece is also easy to get but expensive. Weapons are worth it but armor not so much.

Here, we can compare for ourselves. Here’s ascended rabid gear versus exotic rabid gear

It comes out to a gain of about 300 condition damage, 200 armour, and 6% crit chance.
The other 600 condition damage must be coming from somethin else.
Ascended gear is a small advantage but skills, profession, spec, esc matter too. Ascended armor is barely noticeable. Ascended weapons is easy to notice when someone crit you for 500pt more than a normal weapon.

Ascended gear in total does make a difference.
Ascended armor, the most grindy and expensive part of Ascended gear, does fairly little. The main advantage you gain from Ascended armor is more access to Agony Resistance, which is only needed for Fractals.
Ascended weapons on power builds make the biggest difference.
Ascended trinkets won’t make much of a difference after the upcoming patch, right now, it’s a big difference, again, on power builds.
Armor makes no big difference, as does ascended stuff on non-power builds.
Whether those burns tick for 1320 or 1400 won’t matter all that much. but as for power builds, you are looking on a difference of as much as 8.5k vs 10k backstabs.
The main points, where ascended stuff is different:
-crit damage on trinkets(till upcoming patch anyway)
-weapon base damage
that being said, I still have to craft ascended daggers for my thief.
My Dreamer comes first, tho.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
if you share the same skill level as the person you are fighting, and lack the ascended they have, you are screwed. math!

not entirely true. You also get the ability to add infusions. This alongside infusions on weapons and trinkets, you can get an additional stat not neccessarily in your original build. If going with vitality, the infusions alone can get you 700 HP extra (weapons 2×5 vit, armor and trinkets 12×5 vit. Total 70 vitality). 700 extra HP may not be much on a warrior, but on a thief or ele, it can actually make a notable difference.

I get an extra 500 health out of defensive infusions. That’s not too shabby when you add in the food and guard buffs; it dramatically increases my health.
Skill > asc gear
But every bit helps I guess.
Class + traits > skill > gear
There are op traits and those who run them usually win.

depends, i rolled over a warrior with glass LB ranger in melee range. I was at a total disadvantage of class + traits, skill doesnt matter when you just pew pew AA in Melee range against a melee player. And my gear was prolly much worse then his as he could take way more hits.
so its rather like this; RNG > class + traits > skills > gear

Its about 5%. It might make a difference between closely matched players, otherwise no.
However, spec matchups can matter more. If your a hgh engy who runs into a condi necro, your probably going to lose to that necro, unless hes way worse of a player than you.
you can hit 3k condi dmg on any class without using ascended armor, just exotic with ascended trinkets & the right runes/sigils/traits.
ascended trinkets are easy enough to come by they should be a non-factor in this discussion.

In the large 80+ zerg battles, the servers drop down the calculation/processing to exotic level so that there is less overhead. So it makes no difference. For roaming solo it might make a difference but skill comes first.
In all the discussions on other MMORPG PvP forums it seems to ME that the people with the gear advantage always argue that they don’t really have an advantage. And the people without the gear complain that the gear is a huge advantage. The arguments seem constant and endless.

Still using exotics here. Haven’t seen many fights I couldn’t win because I didn’t have ascended. Lag, traits build and your particular class has a far bigger impact. An ele will not survive a well timed C’n’D>Backstab regardless of if you’re in ascended or not (assuming you’re using zerker)

Yeah…you’re definitely wrong.
Ascended weapons are important because of how damage is calculated:
Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
