Tell me how/why you enjoy WvW….

So far my experience has been less than enjoyable. Could be the time-slot I play in, could be the people on the server, or could just be WvW isn’t as fun as the devoted claim it to be.

1. Run with Zerg? Commanders go on le zig-zag run across most of the map maybe kill a sentry/guard. After 5-10 minutes, get obliterated by a zerg double/triple your size, and you wind up back at base and another zig-zag accomplish nothing marathon.

2. Go solo mission? Must be lucky….stray less than 30 meters from any base alone and get thiefed to death.

3. Go small group mission? Maybe. If the players weren’t an incredibly toxic group of elitists.

Solutions? Ask for help in map chat- enter even more toxic community, and their ability to make xbox live chat look like a church.

I do have an 80 in each class, so I know a bit about all, but not really a master at any of them. The only way I feel I can contribute/get credit for anything is to play the necro or staff ele and just spam AoE’s in the hopes of getting a loot bag or two. Even then, the skill lag in fights usually ends up with me pushing buttons that do nothing, while 10,000 skills/aoes show up at our teams feet, instant-popping us. Any melee class usually ends up dead before I can get close enough to swing at the enemy.

Is there a redeeming side to WvW? Or is it only fun if you outnumber the opponent 3 to1?

Sounds like you don’t have a big WvW experience, am i wrong ?

Anyway, join a WvW guild. I can assure you that even outnumbered 3V1 fight isn’t autowin for the biggest zerg (fact is, well organized group can take a 3v1 situtation when the ennemy zerg is not coordinated, even seen 4v1). Also, make sure to be on your server official Team Speak if you’re not runing in guild, some commanders are very fun to follow. And there is far less toxicity in WvW than average PvE/PvP

And if you still don’t find it fun, well, it just doesn’t match your tastes, not a big deal, try to find something else ^^

This week almost every matchup is unbalanced. Try eotm to get a feel for wvw or hope you get a better matchup next week.

give up on server pride, its overrated. all these people arguing about which server is best and kitten when it really doesn’t matter and they contribute little it anything to that server’s success. WvW is 100% won by who has the best overnight coverage, so don’t worry about how your server is performing, rather, make it your goal to have fun during the time zone you play in and forget about the rest.

Also, when you are getting wiped, it puts everyone in a bad mood, if you don’t like the commander’s attitude you can try your luck on another borderland. I’m at work so I can only try to help a little at a time. Possibly doesn’t even make sense. :P

When WvW is going right, it looks like this:

In WvW you rely on the people standing next to you to sustain in fights. If everyone is not on the same page like the folks in the video, individuals who over-extend get zerged down, and with every player loss you loose your ability to stand up to a bigger force.

You’ll notice this guild will engage a zerg and disengage to heal at least once every 15 -20 seconds

Don’t go out on your own until you know exactly what you’re doing. Get a guild group or even just a few people you see on your time slot a lot and add to your friends list.

You won’t learn anything at all in a PUG zerg or in EotM, although if you insist on PUG zerging at least get on your server’s TeamSpeak so you can understand why the commander is running around seemingly randomly. It’s usually to respond to a threat.

You need to join a WvW oriented guild with voice comms, whether it be skype, ventrilo, teamspeak or whatever. It’ll help a lot with your experience.

A WvW guild would be ideal. I think if you run with a small havoc squad a good number of times, you’ll start having more fun. Think about what you want with a guild, and it is probably out there.

I’ve seen many people join a WvW guild to try to farm lootbags, which isn’t going to happen all that often as you’ll be taking mostly camps and every once in a while towers. You’ll get a good number of fights, but no where near as many kills. What you will be doing is actually playing your class (instead of spamming AoE), using a more precise strategy, and my favorite part, actually seeing the specific player who is hitting you with large amounts of damage.

I don’t have much experience playing with elitists. If I find that they’re like that, I won’t play with them. End of story. But this hasn’t been that much of an issue because, as far as I have seen, this game has much fewer elitists than I have ever seen in any other game.

That all being said, if you are just doing WvW to finish your achievements for the season 2 title then I can’t really help you as you obviously don’t care about WvW at all and thus don’t really wanna be in there in the first place.

I’ve seen a lot of new faces in WvW lately and I always make an effort to invite them to party or at least engage them. I don’t mind running around with the Nerd Herd every now and then but most of the time I’m with a small group just running around causing trouble.

It takes a lot of map awareness and teamwork but it can be so much fun taking on larger groups or using a small group to stealing a tower/keep in an enemy bl while the other two servers are occupied on the other side of the map.

Well, to me it seems that your server seems rather toxic/elitist so for that a server change might be a viable choice. There are good places and then there are bad places, to find out which might be a better place for you, start guesting to servers and ask them about wvw, since you cannot enter it while guesting. Consider carefully about your choice then, expensive as it is atm, perhaps after tournament is over. Up to you.

Then on the gaming itself, well, obviously you have to keep playing so you will learn your/enemy classes to stay alive. Defensive builds are often a good place to start when you don’t get one-shotted by the nearby ambient creature. Google up for some half-decent builds and tweak them so it suits you and is cost friendly. Then you are ready to go. Try out everything, run with commander, try to get into a small/guild group, go solo. Be offensive and defensive, what I mean is go for camps and defend towers/dolyaks. See what gives you the kicks. Improve your situational awereness, there are surprising amount of places where enemies can hide and approach you unnoticed = quick death.

You’ll soon see which commander is a good one, or a bad one, or just learning. I’ve met several new commanders since the tournament started. Also get into Teamspeak or whatever they are using, even if just to listen, it helps alot. You can do without it but in a heated combat, voice is so much better. But seriously I’d suggest you try to find a server that is more friendly.

You can have a good time if you join a WvWvW guild that fits your playstyle and has people you actually like.

You can have a good time if you join in on server voice chat where people are actively communicating and the commander is competent and not abrasive.

You can have a good time solo roaming if you’re built well and don’t mind fighting the same classes with basically the same builds pretty much all the time.

Unfortunately, Anet’s handling of WvWvW has created a lot of bitterness in the playerbase, and the frustration can sometimes be directed at fellow players because, short of quitting the game, there isn’t much else they have the power to do. So just ignore the trolls.

Just buy a commander tag and go to edge of the mists and karma train.

Thanks for the suggestions. I still haven’t found a way to truly enjoy WvW as much as other parts of the game. At this point, I think the season 2 tournament is bringing out the worst in the playerbase.

Between the toxic community and the insane skill lag, this aspect of the game/community is more likely to shun people away than gain players.

Sorry to hear you aren’t enjoying it. I’d most likely change servers where I in your situation. Check out the wvw recruitment section of the forum and find one that sounds promising or just come join us on Northern Shiverpeaks – I know you’ll have a different experience on our server.

I enjoy WvW by not taking any of it too seriously.

No. There is no good way to enjoy it by yourself, besides going to the Edge of the mists and sneaking over to reactors for the Mist chests (provided you don’t get intercepted by trolls or run into an enemy zerg).

Other than that, I just did the borderlands/battlegrounds for map completion and never looked back afterwards.

WvW is always enjoyable when there are other players to play with.

Finding every map with [Outmanned] and zero presence from your server but you, that is what kills it.

Play Thief. Join blob gate. Be a master ruseman, level 99 tr0le.

What server are you in?

If you’re just starting out, I recommend joining a map with a Commander tag on it and then just following it around, attacking what they attack. Pay attention to what they say in chat, and join their voice chat server if you’re feeling social. (I usually don’t since I like playing in silence and I find other people talking to be distracting.) After a while you’ll start to get a feel for why players do what they do and what are the larger strategies being employed. (e.g. why Commanders will usually cap a Camp before attacking a Tower or Keep (They want their followers to have maximum supply for building siege), or why they suddenly bail out of one map when you were doing well attacking a structure (a more important structure, such as a fully upgraded Keep, is in danger of falling to the enemy and needs reinforcements).

Join a WvW fights dedicated guild and enjoy blob killing (when there isn’t skill lag).

Your number 3 reason is still the best way to have fun imo,albeit with people you know and play with on a daily base.

The other way around is what makes it really fun,beating a 10 – 15 group with your 5 man party,being outnumbered and still kicking kitten .

Play with buddys, smash enemy, grab loot, save the princess!
