Today we were attacked at bay by elona and i was at hills defending the trebs for lake. At some point I went to the water camp and saw 5 vizuna golems marching north. I immediately announcement on the map that 5 golems are going for hills north. It took them about 2-3 minutes to arrive at the gates with mesmer portals and they started bashing the gates.
They had 2-3 rams and 5 golems for each gate and they were about 40 people.
We had catapults for defending against rams/golems but they weren’t enough cause they burnt through the gates in less than 2 minutes. We were about 15-20 of us, but they just ignored us and went only for the gates, to the lord and just took hills.
Catapults counter rams, Trebs counter catapults and Portal bombing counters trebs. How do you counter golems then?

Superior ac = 1k dmg per tick on golem.
And about 2 ticks per second. that’s 2k per second.
The average golem has about 130k health maybe more, maybe less but let’s assume 130k.
That means in 65s the golems would be down, take 75s for 150k health on golems.
It’s probably not as precise as that but if you add in a regular ac in there together with superior the golems they would definitely be down in 65s if not sooner.
Now if you had 2 superior ac’s, you would have them down much faster.
Superior Arrow Carts will melt Golems.
Ballistas and arrow carts help. Finding and engaging golems before they get to your keep is the most important part.
And there’s the infamous 41 golem pwnage by burning oil.
Superior arrowcarts and superior ballistas hurt golems a lot, especially if you place staggered ballistas on the path to inner gate,
Also cond necros with epidemic dominate golems when they are attacking a gate
I second the sup arrow cats suggested. Even regular arrow carts can do damage, that said. You’ll know instantly if there’s a golem on your gate when you start getting LOL NUMBERS from your arrow cart. Catapults do damage, but it’s so slow. AC can just pew pew pew pew.

They took down the outer gate (reinforced) in 2 minutes. How many superior arrow carts do you need to kill them in this time frame?
Balistas aren’t very good, because first the zerg streams in the inner court and then the golems. If you place them on the walls, then you need them right at the outer edge to have line of sight, but the zerg will kill it before you have the chance to see the golems. Same for canons.
Golems should not be able to use mesmers portal…..
3 Superior Arrow Carts or 5 Arrow Carts will melt pretty much any Golem Zerg. We always try to place 4-5 carts at our keep and SM gates specifically for this kind of defense.

To the OP, lots of siege, including superior arrow carts, burning oil, cannons and catapults are the best way to stop them.
I guess the arrow cart description text that says it’s good for infantry was a bit misleading since golems are actually siege weapons.
If it were to me I would just remove the mesmer portal completely. These maps are already very small and favor the zerg ball that conquers everything. Having waypoints in keeps and mesmer portals makes the map feel even smaller. But that’s another discussion.

Golems are siege but are considered more like infantry when someone is inside.
When someone is inside, the golem + person gets into combat, conditions work on them, so do the boons, People can do critical damage on them and they are influenced by the owner’s stats. A best choice for a golem is a full PTV armor Warrior.
There is only one thing that effectively counters a major golem rush and that is warning.
Superior arrowcarts and such are great if you have the people there to man them but if you do not see the golems till they are on your gate it is to late. By the time you have enough people inside to man all the siege they will be through, especially if they make good use of time warp. 10 golems can get through a gate in like 30 seconds. So if a group starts clearing oil/cannons/guards but you see no siege be on guard, same if you see major supply losses from a keep/camps.
Now as to the most effective ways to destroy mass golems: oil, mortars, ballistas, cannon, arrowcarts. Superior ballistas and carts do double damage. A few mortars can target the gates of a keep and do the most damage to siege as far as I know (27k a shot).
