I had fun. (shocking post)
To me it just sounds like you like smaller fights which i’ve always felt to be the PvP side of GW2, but with the huge reaction WvW has had not only in GW2 but the spread of influence into other games like TESO it would be called a success. I personally love 20v20 fights and WvW is the only place I can get that if not a bit bigger.
The new map is more PvE friendly as there are mini missions on the side etc, so for someone like you I can understand why you would like it so stick with it, but i would not say “WvW in Guild Wars has so much potential i can’t believe the Devs don’t make good use of it.” because I feel they are doing extremely well with WvW. The only recent complaints to the true WvWers is we want acct bount wxp and to keep the PvE out xD
Eotm is a good “in between” map. In other words, it is not WvW and not PvE, but a mix in the middle. It is basically a huge group of people running around killing NPCs (the PvE side) while occasionally fighting real people (the WvW side).
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of it since I prefer smaller group fights where CC doesn’t kill you . I also prefer the “personality” of my own server vs the mix of people in an eotm map.
