The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
and I’m not the only one.
EB JP is one of the few places where good skirmishes break out.
Most encounters in the WvW environment are who can out zerg each other when you are out in the open and who can out siege each other when you are attacking/defending objectives.
The EB JP is an interesting environment for more diverse encounters. Where you quick form into small groups to assist each other, come across small encounters and help turn the tide, observe enemy encounters and decide if to be friend or foe to a particular side (if at all).
Admittedly even a lot of the EB JP has deteriorated into siege and portalling wars, but the aspects I mentioned are still there.
Its a particular play style that is just not seen anywhere else in the game and it would be great to see this developed in a way where it more obviously benefited your server instead of (mostly) being complained about as a resource drain. What I see now is people secretly peel off from the EB war and hop into the portal before anyone notices.
The JP creates a unique fighting environment that would be great to enhance and develop more. It has the potential to create dynamic PvP encounters which rely on PvP abilities but various aspects can change the tide of battle making it much more dynamic than your typical sPvP setting.
The challenge is that such rewards are ethereal… or perhaps spiritual. The OP is speaking almost more to the “art” of play than the “mechanics” of play. And I cannot necessarily disagree.
IMHO, in addition to the chest incentive, there should be 3 objectives in the EB JP that offer WvW ppt incentives (and one ppt incentive per BL JP).
The objectives should be “placed” in such a way that neutralizes (or marginalizes) portal supremacy. Mesmer portals should still be allowed and beneficial, but it should be difficult to single portal to any objective. <— I don’t seek to enrage either pro/con mesmer factions.
But back on point… In WvW, JPs, NPC Champions, and PvE objectives TAKE AWAY from the WvW play experience. As they are implemented, I believe they violate the spirit of WvW broadly and diminish the potential of WvW.
Every element in WvW should have a meaningful connection to the atmosphere, mechanics, or playful execution of WvW or it should be given serious consideration for removal.
