I like the new BL! Post if you do too!
Sorry I clicked on the wrong thread, I’ll see myself out….
I like it !
The beautiful bl what Anet remove quagg, orb and add ruin.
Oh wait + )
They were a step in the right direction at release, and were good with some moderate flaws. Anet seems to want to mess that up though by trying to cater to the ‘supposed community voice’….and now nobody is really happy at all. They shouldn’t be scrapped. They just need some minor tweaks that make for major gameplay changers.
Regardless, I don’t know if I can still give them a thumbs up after the last patch changes. I’m pretty neutral at this point. I’m pretty sure I still prefer them over the old ones though.
The Tiny Yuno Sniper of Ebay [EBAY]
I liked them when they came out and they’re getting better and better as more people start showing up. For instance, I actually felt decently rewarded for defending a keep the other day because the siege lasted long enough that I got a few ticks of the reward. If it triggered on doing large sums of damage as well, it might be in a good spot.
Perhaps the best change of all is that no keep can be taken, outer and inner, with one set of catas. In addition, there are fewer, if any, uncounterable siege spots. If attackers want to ensure their siege is safe they have to build at a distance. This doesn’t hold true for towers, though, and is a bit skewed by people firing through walls…but it’s a start.

Does it include Trebuchets?
I managed to break Rampart (Old Garrison) with a pair of trebuchets from northcamp.
It hits both outer and inner walls
I like the map design. Basicaly they are good. But they need to be learned which turns players off from start. Also the maps need some reworking in keep/tower interaction. Autoupgrade is a handicap and turns players of.
Remove autoupgrade.
Remove some of the monsters and traps.
Put another stronger camp in the center instead of the laser event.
Make suplies more important (but please not by increasign siege weapon costs)
Look at the tower layout to make them a bit more compact and their strategic use by reaching important spots with siege fire. Camps, garrison ….
don´t make keeps waypoints contestet just by a few shots at the keep door or guards.
The waypoint should only be contestet if the inner defence is hit.

That’s fine, Trebuchets are much slower than catas and cost way more supply. Range is sort of their thing, after all.
Sorry I thought they has released a new map due to the disaster of the desert ones. My bad
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2
To be honest i’d probably be fine with the borders if i didnt have to wake up to everything being T3 cuz of nightcapping
But untill they change auto upgrading im gonna have to say that the borders are crap
Some things should be changed, I’d like to see the middle event changed as I feel it’s too strong. Would rather see it give points per kill for an hour if your team get it than damaging all doors.
Otherwise I like them, just need to get a feel for the routes around….except that one bit between earth keep and air keep, it seems someone lost their trail of thought putting a portal on a cliff to go down to the canyon but the canyon is just a long way to get to air keep.
Keep it positive and Anet might reply
I ran into 1 necro last evening ( T4 NA primetime) after fully roaming HoD and DB BL. That was great.
I’m glad EB only had a ~35 queue.
I’d like to enjoy the new BL but I’d rather have a basic map with more people than a beautiful and intricate no man’s land.

I know that feeling. T3 with a group of 15-20. We saw 10 people from another server show up to try to do the laser event. And that was it. We flipped our whole BL which was the wrong color. then we went to their BL and flipped 75% of theirs. All during NA prime time. So during prime time around an hour and a half spent between 2 maps and 10 enemies.
Of course there could have been more there, with the two groups being so small compared to the map we could play for days and never see anyone.

I love it !!! It is so good to run on these BL’s. So smooth, so fast, so beautiful, so intense fight-wise, plenty of pve, no lags, no obsolete graphics, good waypoints, lots of guards , lots of mobs, automatic upgrades so you wont forget to upgrade !!! and … many more awesome features we dont really need in wvw but which are awesome !!! GJ ANET !!
New maps are awesome.
Auto upgrades need less passive and more active play (need to escort additional dolyak to finish the upgrade and upgrade time doubled, no auto WP).
Guild upgrades (are you motherkitten kidding me?) are overpriced.
Mid event would be fun if not lagfest…
I’d post here but there is enough sarcasm in the threads above.
Suffice to say I’m not a fan. Judging by the numbers (lack thereof) I see on them others feel the same.
The new BL is fine for good fights, but it needs more permanent waypoints.
All the problems are core WvW problems that should have been fixed a long time ago.
The new BL is definitely the best map of HoT.
I believe I can speak in the name of the whole WvW community when I say that we all appreciate the effort Anet spent in developing this wonderful map. Thus I want to hereby express my and everyone else’s most sincere thanks to all WvW developers.
May we have countless hours of fun with this great activity WvW has grown into, and look forward to changes in the future that will, without doubt, make our favorite part of GW2 even more awesome.

What is this thread about? Not 01 April yet. :O
New BL is good designed… but not for WvW. It has some features that killing WvW. Its too big and complicated to be a WvW map, its almost impossible to find fights. It has too much PvE, gimmicks, chokes and other stuff those really bad for WvV. Should have been more simple. If i want to do PvE i can go PvE maps instead of doing PvE in WvW mode. And simply, in reality people didnt like them and almost no one playing on BLs anymore, people just stick EB all day long. Check borderlands except prime time, you will not find anyone playing. Map can be beautiful but it doesnt mean its good for WvW. Sadly WvW players and and some guilds already quiting game day by day and if this will stay like this WvW will be completely dead in max 2-3 months despite its big potential.
The new map is not the issue. I’m used to the mechanics by now and they don’t necessarily kill you if you know how to manage them (just like knowing which parts of the alpine map are blinkable and which can be fallen down without dying). The issue is that nobody gives the map a shot. Take EBG out of the rotation and give only the new map. People will be kitteny to start with, but they’ll get over it.
I like the maps, and honestly think they would be fine if so much of the WvW population hadn’t been forced into PvE by the HoT content that cannot be obtained in WvW. A number of NSP guilds had a lot of fun on the new borderlands at reset after some communication with an opposing server where we agreed to be on one specific borderlands. To be clear, after travelling there we were not communicating our positions to each other.

Is this what its come down to we have to pretend we are happy in hopes of maybe getting even a response? the new maps are crap I wont sugar coat it sorry Anet dont give a rats rear end tho cause they got what matters to them anymore our cash I loved GW2 spent hours a day in WvW now if I log in 2 times a week its alot HOT is a bomb its just a shame it had to kill WvW as well…

Yes. This exactly. If people keep avoiding the map, nobody will ever have fun there. However, the population is so spread that EBG is the only place things happen because it’s the easy choice.
The new maps are quality stuff, it’s a shame so many people avoid them or try to boycott the maps but that’s their choice for now.

The new map is rly beautifull. I like the map. I just hate to play WvW on it.
I love the new maps, because without them i would never have stoped playing wvw, and since wvw is the only thing i played in GW2 it means i stoped playing wvw FOR NOW, but i’ll hop in and tag up as soon as the old BL are back as advertized when they talked about rotating old and new maps. But one thing is clear HoT was def. the last time i threw in some $ into their hungry pve/E-Sports (What a joke sports) bs.
WvW was true Endgame and we all expected something like an Alipen Bl 2.0 not a god kitten EOTM 4.0
Probably the best looking PvE maps in GW2.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I still haven’t really tried the new BL- I’m sure that anet would listen to us and probably tweak some stuff if we made some constructive suggestions – but with all the bugs, UI annoyances, balance issues I have no fun in wvw in general right now. So I don’t play it. The new BL isn’t that bad but I can’t really judge it as the longest I can stay in wvw nowadays is ~ half an hour – due to all the stuff that’s wrong.
There are many things to like about the desert borderlands.
- The map is beautiful. My favorite is the wind carved canyons north of the air keep.
- The Synthesizer gathering nodes fit the earth keep theme.
- The Desert Borderland is no more than twice as big as Alpine Borderland. Except when you need to run supplies to keeps.
- The towers’ and earth keep’ barricades exist both on the (M) map and in the game.
- The fire keep Hounds are fun and useful shrine effect.
- The air keep jump pads are fun for players who like JPs – I guess.
- Blessing of the Elements makes roaming somewhat more bearable.
- The Oasis event does less damage on gates now.
- Invader-only waypoints make breakout events unnecessary.
- Northern half of the borderland could still be considered as homeland to defend.
- Different lords in towers and keeps.
- Lord fights in the air and the fire keep are well balanced.
- 5 minutes of Marked on enemies inside just captured keeps makes mesmer sweeps conceivable.
- The supply camps and some towers do not have vertical design on them.
- The supply camps and towers do not have interior area where (M) map gets locked.
- All static siege weapons except the Academy mortar can be used.
- The double Burning Oil on tower gates makes them valuable in defence.
- The dolyaks retain fraction of their significance by speeding up upgrades.
- Vast and empty borderlands makes it easy to complete WvW guild missions.
This won’t hurt [Much]
Ring of Fire
Well, I do like what they have done with the Eternal Battle Ground (left it alone) . The rest, NOT so much.
Oxnar War, Oxnar Blades Thf, Oxnar Ripclaw Rng,
Ox Nar Ele, Oxett Necro, Oxann Grd.
The new map is designed for PVE not PVP.
Defend your stuff, take theirs, get as many kills as possible while doing it. Everybody has their right to like or dislike the new maps or even quit the game if they want. My guild tends to make that enemy Eternal zerg choose of if they let their borderland fall to an enemy uncontested or if they actually suck it up and go out there to prevent such actions. So far we’ve drawn many good fights and some where we get totally destroyed by an overpowering enemy force. Either way it’s fun for us to pull some of the naysayers into the maps they seem to dislike so much, some of them might even like it when they have actual fights there. Anyways, carry on the hatred.

To be fair, your first paragraph was about the mechanics (which applies to all WvW =P).
Catas, yeah… I see your point, but that could have been fixed by adding NPC buildings (houses, towers, other miscellaneous items) rather than spending so much time and money on a map that… doesn’t look or feel great as a borderland. =/
I’d play it as an alternative map (like EotM) or invade it for kicks, but not defend it as my home territory. I used to love night defense…

If this really still works for you, you are in a verry lucky position. I’m jealous. This worked for me before HoT. You want a fight? Go and poke the northern towers or even garrison. You knew, that WOULD draw a fight. I have one account on an NA server and one on an EU server. And i have never again seen this working after HoT. Not on NA nor EU. Not for the enemy nor my own servers. I have so many unexciting and unthrilling PvD garrison caps (i know, the keep has now a different name, but it is still garri for me) that i want to cry and double the dose of my antidepressants. The sad truth is: Most ppl rather defend their Eotm keep than this new BL.
I actually greatly prefer the new borderlands – the problems with it are systemic to WvW, not just that particular map.
It is much larger, but it also tends to funnel players through certain places, particularly if they don’t control local keeps or towers. That and shrines combine to territory actually meaning something, which is a major improvement over the old BL. That also makes it much easier to intercept groups flipping camps, towers or keeps, even if they don’t want to see any non-PvE action in their WvW today.
It’s also a lot easier to defend keeps and towers than it ever was, it’s just that nobody bothers doing it. But the only reason anyone bothered doing it in the first place was that some poor idiot had wasted their gold on upgrading Garrison. I don’t see the current version as worse, I see it as a declaration that the emperor has no clothes.
If the systemic problems with WvW are fixed so that it’s worth spending time in, I suspect the desert BL is actually going to be a really good venue. But when the population of WvW is so small in almost every tier, you go to EB unless you want to karma train.
I like the new maps. I just don’t like autoupgrades, the permanent waypoints and the laser event.
The borderlands are amongst the best designed maps in the game.
Too bad they are about 3 times larger then they should be.
Hulk Roaming Montages/Build Vids
I always rage but never quit.
The new maps are great for soloing WvW dailies. You can pretty much guarantee you’ll never be interrupted by a pesky enemy player while you do your five guard kills or claim a sentry point or flip a shrine.
Similarly, you can admire the magnificent scenery and explore the whole map for hours without any danger of running into anyone.
All the facilities – banks, crafting, TP etc – are still a convenient single load screen away from anywhere, same as before.
For actual WvW gameplay though, about as much use as a chocolate frying pan.
Anyone seen coglin posting recently? Did he fall off his nag? I’m missing his defending everything.

I’ve seen a post of him (or someone named coglin) on reddit recently.
All I know is FA BL is a ghost town…
Space Marine Z [GLTY]
I too like BL. They are great dogs.
I am on the fence about it.
I’ve always been an EBG bum because I’ve always found it easier to get fights there. With the map being smaller and having a more simplistic terrain than both the new and old BL’s, you don’t really have to look for fights, they often come to you instead. Of course, that has it’s downsides, and being primarily a Necromancer/Ranger roamer ganks are often and a-plenty. Still, I’m so accustomed to EBG it’s hard to force myself in to going anywhere else. The times I have however, the BL’s never appealed to me. The new Desert borderland though, although massive and complicated, is actually quite fun to navigate. I can’t say I love it by any stretch of the imagination but I don’t hate it either. If they were more populated, it’d be great for roaming because it wouldn’t be terribly hard to find fights (again assuming highly populated) and you wouldn’t have to worry about getting ganked every single time you engaged someone because of the scale of the map. Similar to how it was on the Alpine BL’s but it just never really drew me in I guess?
Either way, it’s a really nice map and it’s fun to explore. It’s obviously not a positive thing if one of the only good things people can say about it is that it’s pretty but really what more could be done? The only reason it’s a downgrade from Alpine is because there are more PvE mobs which no WvW player wants. Besides that, I can’t think of any way they could really improve on a WvW map, you know?

Perhaps the best change of all is that no keep can be taken, outer and inner, with one set of catas.
Actually, you CAN use one set for outer and inner. And the sweet spots are relatively easy to find- the map marks destructible walls, and the new range finder is easy to use. Just put a personal waypoint on the map to measure distance. The only place I haven’t found a sweet spot so far is the fire keep. But if it’s there, I’ll find it.
What I really like about the new desert maps is that are new. Of course there are a ton of bugs and quirky cata spots but it’s part of the fun (discovering them and figuring out how to counter them)
