I miss the old match up system
+1 for the matching system. I too miss the old system and I think many others too.
The only wrong thing with the old system was : the difference between the average of the scores of 2 adjacent tier was too big. Anet, it should have been easy to realize that and to fix the old system instead of giving us random number and bad matchup.

Anet is just kitten there are more players on WvW instead of sPvP. So they decided to kitten WvW up so we’ll move to sPvP. Not gonna happen Anet.
You have to remember that there were thread upon threads bemoaning the old system until anet finally made this new RNG matchup …. I suspect to shut us all up. The old complaints were about stale predictable matches, or no way to move up because of server stacking (that hasn’t changed and I suspect is about to get worse with the leagues).
That said, I preferred the old matchup system, but I can find fun still in the new one too.
I miss the adrenaline of 3 days matchup, winner going up and loser down. That was epic and everyone was working for his server.
Well said bro. I think most of us feel this way. the current random matchup system is terrible. Beyond terrible, it’s rage inducing. So many people have quit because of it.

No no, you get that part all wrong… I said it before many time and I will repeat it :

It’s true many people quit because of it. This new matchup system was basically the nail in the coffin for all those that care a little bit about PPT and defending. After getting bad matchup every week you just stop caring and just log on from time to time to karma train…
To the ones that would like to say that caring about PPT is stupid, I will say : The final nail in the coffin is coming for you too —> orb buff lol
Way to kill the 2 groups that cared about WvW…
Agree 100% with the OP.
It was so great this week to be paired up against with our old rivals DB and FA. It was like meeting old friends again (granted, old friends whom you hated and wanted to kill). But at least the outcome mattered. Pride was on the line.
Now the chances of getting a good match are so slim, that it’s no wonder GvG are such a big scene now. Every server has at least 2 or 3 dedicated WvW guilds who you can fight competitively.
Leagues will be even worse.
I agree with you op (glad to see you posted in the right forum this time lol)

After considerable hours in WvW since the new matching system, I really miss the old system. And here’s why:
1) In the old days when you went up a server rank it felt like a huge victory. And when you went down it felt like a crushing loss.
Can’t agree here. 95% of the times you could tell who would win a match up after the weekend, and you still can. +/- 1 rank often meant a huge difference in population and coverage disparity.
2) The matches are totally not even.
Again, they weren’t even back then either. For example, here is T5 up until the system changed:
Week 1: 140k win.
Week 2: 370k win.
Week 3: 520k win.
Week 4: 170k win.
Week 5: 180k win.
Week 6: 180k win.
Week 7: 110k win.
Week 8: 150k win.
Week 9: 240k win.
Week 10: 34k win.
Week 11: 100k win.
Week 12: 46k win.
Week 13: 50k win.
Week 14: 50k win.
Week 15: 30k win.
Week 16: 75k win.
Week 17: 100k win.
Week 18: 90k win.
3) This may seem like a minor quip in comparison, but WvW ranks feel strange.
I agree, but I would prefer it if they did away with them completely, or exclusively rewarded them for time spent in WvW, not favoring one type of game play over another.
Fort Aspenwood
randomized matchups were implemented for the carebears who couldn’t maplete the opposing part of the maps
New bunker meta sux
2) Tell me about it. RoF is the only server who have stronger enemies 5 weeks in a row.
So we are stomped by huge numbers for 5 weeks now. How fun. I miss matches against Dzagonur and I will never ever say Dzagonur blobs.
3) WvW ranks should be a part of a title. So You can choose if you are Master Crafter,Golden or Bronze Invader.
I don’t miss the old match up system at all…
Fighting Viz and Des for week after week, month after month, no way do I want to go back to that…
The new system is awesome. Fighting against a server you should not be able to hold up and still managing is pretty cool and gives you a “underdog” feeling.
Some improvements to the outmanned buff should be done though, so the underdog can fight tooth and claw on a more equal footing.
the old system was absolutely horrid, new system is alot better and the leagues will make it even better as long as THE PEOPLE are willing to destack. This isn’t Anets fault what anet are doing with matchmaking are adding improvements but the people insist on stacking in the top t3 servers.

i feel like the new system is they put numbers in a hat and then select the servers based on that. the personal reason i say this is the end point system i.e. its usually about 250k, 90k, 80k in points, with the old system (wasn’t perfect) i think it was more even fights (on most occasions) but with the new one its not a fight about who comes in first, but who comes in second. and its happened for the last couple months.

Totally agree with this. First place is rarely an option. It’s all about who gets second place, which ultimately boils down to which sever the winning server decides to pick on more.
