I've Lost All Hope for this game...
It’s possible that due to server lag you were not where you thought you were and neither were they, or that lag simply delayed/prevented your action despite what it looks like on screen.
I’ve had this experience before, even in tPvP on extremely rare occasion. I have always put it down to lag which has proven true from the discussions I’ve had with the people in question. (I normally invite them to party or use /map to ask).
The issue was extremely rare for me though and I haven’t had the same experience since I made some modifications to how my network traffic works.
If you are someone who plays with a high ping (to test: type /ip in game. Alt+tab. Windows key+R. Type resmon. Find IP under TCP connections, you’ll see your ping) I would recommend:
- You disable Nagles algorithm. If that looks to daunting here is an easy program that will do it for you.
- Re-route your game traffic through port 80 in case your ISP throttles 6112.
(create shortcut for GW2, right click > properties, click “target:” box, scroll to the end of the line changing nothing, after everything else type " /clientport 80" including spaces but not quotation marks.) - Check your ping again to see the changes made any difference.
You’ll still get lag, especially in heavy zerg situations and might experience the issue, but I highly doubt this was “hacking” and there are some some of anti-cheat measures running behind the scenes in this game.
Nit-picking, but there is also a limit to the number of players allowed in a map from each server, so to outnumber you 100 to 1 you’d pretty much have to have only a single player in the map from your server.
They probably have much better timezone coverage, if you get co-ordinated you should be able to beat them in a few fights during your servers prime regardless of score, just remember not to run full ’zerkers.
Good luck!

Great explanation. I’ve seen this happen a few times, long before the bloodlust patch. I’d also add that it can happen both ways: I’ve both stomped someone to no effect, and watched someone try to stomp me from 200-300 units away. Due to lag, I must have appeared on their monitor as being right next to them. The server saw my location differently.
Also, here’s an obligatory plea for the WvW forums to stop attributing to malice what can easily be attributed to…anything else.
Happened when i tried to stomp a good number of players recently.

Well if it is lag, then I hope the guys server optimization actually works… As I have never really encountered this problem, except for fighting Dolyaks.
It isn’t a hack, it’s just anet’s usual quality standards. Have had it happen tons of times.

I agree this is really likely to be game engine related rather than malicious. I’ve experienced this issue, and yep, very frustrating.
If you’re a player that ever escorts yaks you might have experienced similar there. You’re trying to put swiftness on the doly but you can’t, because you’re not both at the same location. Then begins a game of cat-and-doly as you move up and down the road, applying swiftness, trying to find where the doly really is, rather than where it’s being rendered. I’ve even had a guildy asking WTF I’m doing, and it turns out “the doly’s right next to [me]!” It’s rendering correctly for them, but not for me. I seriously doubt the doly is hacking
That’s probably why there’s no easy way to report hacking, we’d all be sending many erroneous reports. And there’d be reports filed against you/me too because this effects your/my opponents too.
… except for fighting Dolyaks.
Bah! I type too slowly at 5:00am!
Has happened to me as well; Always put it down to my ping rate/latency as this has also happened in other online games. The dolyaks behave strangely if a supply camp has been captured, one minute they’re in front of you next they have vanished its quite amusing as a ranger firing at the dolyak ahead of you and watching the bow firing backward.

This is an excellent post! Thanks for taking the time…

Happens often, I need to use leap skills and finish them by hand everytime it happens.

So I have stuck around and only play WvW… Now we have Bloodlust back which allows Points for Stomps. Oh wait, they just use a hack to prevent stomps /congratulations… Have had several enemies where I “stomp” (channels all way, char jumps and drops flag) enemy just continues healing up. 3 stomps in row, unaffected by it. So I try another enemy, same thing. So not only does the enemy out number us 100 to 1. (current scores 125,000 | 20,000| 19,000), but they also have to resort to hacking. Good game… This is why EVERY MMORPG needs an in-game CSM/GameMaster which answers Reports… Also, Why in the world, after a whole year of hacking/exploiting is there no Report Option for EXPLOIT/Hacking
Edit: DPS’ing kills them, but no Points for that.
Some are saying it is server lag…
Uh, not when it happens to others and the framerates don’t change…
How about a little reality here?
WvW needs help in many ways – like being hit through a wall that isn’t down YET – doesn’t matter which side you are on, the other side can grab you???
The “anti-stomp” needs attention to find out where it is coming from – and if it’s “lag” then how are so many players becoming “able” to do this?
Oh, and then there’s the rage quitter. who when he realizes that he’s not winning a fight will just go poof and there goes MORE points.
WvW is a great place to level in a zerg but don’t try to live in there, the bugs will drive you batty.
You must be playing BG. I still remember the golem that flew across BG borderlands one day.

Low frame-rate is not a symptom of network lag.

Wow! I’ll try this on my Windows 8 when I get back home later. I’m on a lower tier server and it’s not that bad.. However, the “1-2 secs” delays will kick in at odd hours, which thus causes the same issues like OP is facing.
Thanks Brew for sharing this!

I get being frustrated by either a game bug or a hack, but this is a pretty minor thing especially for such big statements.
They have already said Bloodlust is going to get nerfed soon and they are looking at a new long term system for a better incentive. In a sense, a person should have more hope since they are quickly backing away from a somewhat unpopular feature and already redesigning it.
